I think it would embarrass him. Don't know him, but my read on him is he would only accept it in retirement, and the school would have to insist on it.

I was actually having the same thought reading down through this thread - I don't know the man, but my interpretation of him based on interviews, pressers, and so forth makes me believe that this would not be his cup of tea and that he's happy enough to be coaching Michigan basketball without so much pomp bestowed on him.

We wouldn't even be having this conversation (right now) if that last game goes the other way.  It seems Michigan basketball fans are so bi-polar when it comes to Beilein.  One day it's "Fire Beilein", "Michigan is on the wrong side of the bubble", and "screw Beilein for not scheduling higher RPIs"; the next day it's "Let's build the man a statue!"

I'm a pretty casual NCAAB fan, as I only watch some M, alot of March Madness, and some big games. Maybe I just don't understand the dynamics of the sport, but it certainly seems the hive mind here changes from game to game (even on the front page).

I wish I had the time and energy to dig up posts from this time last year when we were getting smoked by Maverick Morgan and Illinois and crapping the floor against a terrible OSU team.

That was the season after we barely squeaked into the Dance as a bubble team play-in game with Tulsa (or Tulane?, who cares).  Year before that, we were 16-16 and didnt' even make the NIT.  This program was way below average for 2.5 seasons.

I'm not trying to bag on Beilein. Great guy. Very good coach.  I love watching this squad.  But a hot March-2017 and a win over MSU at Breslin and now we're naming the court after him.

Slow. Down.

If you're going to bring up the team's 2015 and 2016 records, it's only fair to note that our best player (Caris LeVert) barely saw the court those two years, among other injured personnel.

I do think though that the trend of memorializing everything is a little over the top.

He didn't only lose LeVert, he lost both LeVert and Walton for the season (2015) and then both LeVert and Albrecht for the season the next year (2016).  Despite this, we still made the tournament in '16.

As for the Oregon game, if he was "completely outcoached," why were we a last-second shot away from beating a higher-seeded team?

If we lost last game...Beilein would not be getting any of the blame! Especially 2 days after clobbering MSU on the road. Delany would’ve gotten all the fan’s scorn due to the scheduling of the games. Anything short of a first round exit in the tourney and Beilein is golden this year.

I wouldn’t say that! The guy is the winningest coach in the programs history. He’s tied for the most sweet sixteen appearances by any coach in this program. Made it to two elite 8’s, one Final 4, and NC game appearance. Multiple B1G titles, and a conference tourney championship. Is he Coach K? No, but he has had a pretty good resume here. I for one think if he gets a national title he’s a lock for the hall of fame.

Too early for this. He still has a llot left in the tank. I'm hoping there are several more Final Four runs left in him and possibly a National Championship. I can dream can't I? I find it curious that many are now calling JB a genius when only a year ago some on this board were calling for his head. For my part, I have been staunch Beilein supporter and will remain so until he decides to hang it up. As far as I'm concerned he can stay at Michigan for as long as he wants, no questions asked.

Warde should slather 30 yards worth of a Bo Schembechler sig on the home sideline of the Big House. Bo Schembechler Field at Michigan Stadium - The Big House Nvm we need 50 yards.

Totally agree with it. He's probably my favorite Michigan coach in any sport. We call him "grandpa" in our house. Just such a likeable, clean and wonderful basketball coach. His peers' relative greasiness make him shine that much more. Coach B Court for all time IMHO.

Let's make sure Crisler is filled to the brim instead of half empty for games against Top 5 opponents to show our support for JB and his team and when the dust settles after he retires, we can name something after him.

I cannot think of a more deserving person. From his success on the court to the values, sportsmanship, and ethics that have remained unadulterated unlike so many of his colleagues. He further embodies a Michigan man more then most. If you think he isn't worthy, I would seriously suggest you further explore, "why"

I think that should be an after retirement thing.  And if you do it while they're still coaching, better be a National Championship or 2 involved in that discussion.

I remember when a cadre of bozos around here wanted Beilein fired. Might just be a textbook example of “hey calm the hell down son” when shooting off ones mouth in the moment. I can’t think of where else that might apply though. Just can’t think of anywhere.

I like him but he hasn’t won anything- win some national titles sure - but because hes a good guy and a slightly better than average coach- He has not earned that yet
