Observations so far:

1. I have never been happier to sleep through that France match. I had a feeling they would be slow out of the gate.

2. KUN AGUEROOOOOOOALLLLLLLLL

2a. Finnbogason is now an Icelandic folklore figure

3. Messi plays with a bunch of hobos

4. I'm almost more excited for Croatia (who I have winning the group and reaching the semifinals) taking on a plucky Nigeria side this afternoon.

I kind of agree with this…

I kind of agree with this. Harbaugh said it would be their choice if they wanted to, and even if they did not, the roster would confirm it. Strack just seemed to want internet clout by outing their intentions SMH.

It's like my smart self over ruled my dumb self

Last year when my lease was up, I was sniffing around getting a Silverado with that fuel guzzling 5.3 liter. Long story short, finances didn't get to where I wanted them. I have a Malibu with Auto Stop/Start and a 1.5L Turbo engine. I get 33 mpg and had to pay 30 dollars to fill the tank for the first time last week in almost a year of ownership. Good work brain.

No chance this would be for this year

They could move a future game sure, but locations of games aren't changed unless there is some kind of natural disaster or other unforseen issue with the host stadium. ND isn't going to sacrifice a home opener to move it up the road to Chicago three months before it's scheduled to happen.

Just got home from the lake

I love the sound of Doc Emrick calling the Stanley Cup Final on TV. Surprised at how high scoring the game is, looking forward to the rest of it.

Not much of a gardener

But in terms of beverages, I have become hooked on Dogfish Head SeaQuench. It is a session sour brewed with sea salt and lime. Very crisp refreshing on a hot day like today. Happy Drinking MGoGardeners

Real Madrid

I have never seen them look this shook on a stage this large.

As an Arsenal fan since the mid 1990's

This is the exact comparison that I make.

God I hope Liverpool

Pulls of the W today. That team is so much fun to watch and I don't need to see Madrid getting a threepeat. I like CR7 but I've got fatigue of him winning 3 of the last 4 CL titles.

That would involve them

Producing a watchable product. At those prices, I will continue to tell the Red Wings (and Holland and Trashill) to f**k right off until they stop dicking around and show SOMETHING resembling a rebuild to get the franchise back to where it belongs.

The best Hughes' in Michigan

Go to Michigan.

All I see

Is a bunch of white people cosplaying as Eastern European Ultras at a 4th tier soccer match. Flares, smokebombs, and obscenities do not make for a strong supporter culture. TNG does a shit job representing the soccer community in Southeast Michigan in terms of those who actually make up said community across Metro Detroit and beyond. Why that is, I am not sure, and have an open ear willing to listen, but the overall hostility of some of the DCFC fan base towards literally ANYONE who dares besmirch their team is childish at best.

Moving forward - I don't want Gilbert and Gores involved in future attempts to get an MLS team. They screwed the pooch. Gilbert already owns half the city, whereas Gores is too drunk the make sure the Pistons are in functioning order. No thank you. I'm sure a new ownership group with at least *roots* to Detroit can come up with something but it's gonna be awhile before we get a team here. I hitched on with Atlanta United from Day 1 since I have family down there and went to a match at Bobby Dodd last year, I'm checking out Mercedes Benz this season in addition to driving down to Columbus two weeks from Wednesday for a United-Crew match (24 dollar 100 level seats on Seatgeek though.) The team does a good job representing the city and its transplant nature while having some southern charm mixed in. The game at Bobby Dodd felt like going to an SEC game tailgate, but it was soccer.

Detroit is a city that absolutely could rally around an MLS team and build a thriving supporters culture, but it's going to take an actual, properly put together bid to attract the league.

Lionel Richie and Ameritrade

All Night Long is a song I grew up listening to as my mom is a big Lionel fan. Seeing the grin it brought to her face during the Super Bowl makes me happy and the commercials themselves are pretty funny.

Another couple that come to mind: Terry Tate: Office Linebacker, Volkswagen's UnPimp Your Ride, and it was a one off, but Tracy Morgan for Beats By Dre during Christmas 2015 still makes me laugh

When the TAKEZ

Weren't so accesible. Sure there were columns in the paper the next day but it stinks that we were a better program in a time before social media and sports radio on a national scale. We weren't Alabama but from about 1995-2004, what an era of 10 years that would've been to have in the era of social media.

Being a long time Arsenal supporter

Arsene Wenger is the only manager I ever knew, but it was easy to recognize both he, and the club's backroom set up were archaic compared to the rest. I think Roger Bennett said the hiring of Emery is "Risk Mitigation" for Arsenal - none of the pressure Arteta would face as a first time manager and former player, and also not the "WIN THE PREM OR GTFO" pressure that Max Allegri might face. I needed a day to process this because at first, I did not like the hire, felt like it was out of left field. Waking up today, I don't dislike it as much as I thought but his success with Sevilla was mostly continental and in the Europa League. Coaching at PSG, sure he did fine, but Ligue Un is the least competitive of the five major leagues. I need to see what kind of signings the club brings in but I do hope he prioritizes the league above all else. Don't worry about fielding full strength Europa League lineups, pull this team back into the Top 4, get that CL money and force Kroenke into rebuilding a force reminiscent of the Arsenal teams of the late 1990's-Early 2000's. Emery will be an adjustment but I'm curious to see how the club will line up under him. COYG.

This is a good summary of it

I understand that this senior class may have not had the impact players the classes of '13-'16 did however, going 1-4 down the stretch is a pretty putrid finish for a Conference Champion. Their biggest problem was the offense seemed to fall silent at the most important times. Why that happened, we may never understand. Looks like the team has some promising freshmen and sophomores so upwards, onwards, and back to the College World Series next year ladies!

Yeah

It happening under the cover of night and not during broad daylight in one of the most well-traveled areas on campus is slightly less alarming. If it were during the day there would have been a panic.

Michigan

Has been taking on more and more out of state kids to help fill the coffers (which is funny when the endowment is in the billions and donors are lining up to fire the money cannon) since the economic downturn. I graduated only four years ago and my friends and relatives still in school say they feel like there's less in-state kids. The university is obviously doing fine but having grown up around the school and still living in the area, I hope they eventually choose a point to stop growing out of state and still give kids who live in Michigan a shot. I had to transfer in after my freshman year at another college, so I can only imagine almost ten years later how much harder it is for kids in Michigan high schools to get an acceptance to U of M.

I mean it is a favorable route

To at least get through the opening weekend, then they will promptly get waxed by Oregon. We knew this team would be "good" in terms of softball in general, but it's not exactly a vintage Hutch team. Leaning too much on Beaubien to get them out of jams (which is how Friday night turned into a mess) and the fact they are 4-10 when the other team scores first is very troubling. Also getting run-ruled at home by Ohio State on the last day of the regular season (First home run-rule loss in 18 years) was ominous. We knew WCWS wasn't a realy possibility this year, but here's to extending the season for a few more games and coming back stronger in 2019. Go Blue!

Game 1

Hoo boy what a blowout. Al Horford was dialed in during that first quarter (How great has he been all postseason?) and Marcus Morris (I miss him as a Piston) did what he said he would, locked down LBJ, and chipped in 21 and 11 himself. I want the Celtics to win this series, they are a good embodiment of what a team should be. I like and respect LeBron but him being in the Finals every year (especially if he were to make it this year, where that team would get swept FAST) is getting tiresome. I would rather see Boston try its best (but likely fail) against the (assumed) Warriors.

Ballast Point

Sculpin IPA, that or their Bonito Blonde is also good.

Already knocked it out

Both my sister and I have to work tomorrow so we got the family and my aunt together last night and cooked up a bountious feast for them along with cards and flowers. It was great. As for a gift, I have an edible arrangement going to my Mom Wednesday because Mother's Day is tomorrow and her birthday is the following Sunday so I figured why not split the difference.

Good grief

We are gonna get run ruled by MSU

Edit: We absolutely are gonna get run ruled by MSU.

She's only a freshman

And the season is far from over but Meghan Beaubien picked a hell of a night to turn into a pumpkin.

Bases Jacked Top 2

Not Great Beaub.

Nah

Because then Dipshit Matt Dudek won't have anything to brag about on Twitter (because you know he isn't bragging about the 'croots)

I went

Harrison Salter played amazingly well, did his Grandpa Bill Freehan's No. 11 jersey proud. He hit a home run over the RF fence that could have traveled all the way to Michigan Ave. Jordan Nwogu (Who I am really pulling for as a fellow Ann Arbor native) also stroked a massive dong over the scoreboard. Great day to make the trip up and see the boys get a big win.

I mean hell

Despite the garbage season they had in 2016, MSU still had its fan day at the Stadium and their fans seemed to show up in droves. Harbaugh can let in Amazon documentaries and do ESPN hits in Paris all he wants, but it still keeps the team at an arm's length from the fan base. Even Saban, the emperor of college football, allows that Fan Day event where fans run a 100 yard dash across Bryant Denny to line up and get his autograph. If this season ends in disappointment (i.e. not beating rivals and not at least making a B1G CG) someone needs to walk into Jim's office because you can't have that level of disconnect AND not provide the winning that allows you to partially get away with said disconnect.

I hope he has a better year

But the Jabrill Peppers is so deep he's on a boat in Lake Erie memes made me laugh every time. Browns gonna Browns.

Cannot say I have

but I will have to watch a couple episodes!

Another one I forgot

I lived abroad when I was younger, saw a LOT of JDM cars in Asia that we wouldn't dream of stateside. One day, I hope to Grey Market import (It's legal now that it's 25 years old but I haven't the money) a 1993 Skyline R32 GTR. One of my dad's coworkers drove a black one like this and I remember being positively giddy as a kid hearing the engine fire up. I rode in it a couple times and what I would do to have that thrill again.

Buick GNX

Still want one of the McLaren ones but it seems the only way to find one in proper condition is at Barrett Jackson or another auctioneer.

Said it before and I will say it again

West Michigan is a little too Culty for me, man of color, to ever live there.

Believe me

I was surprised to find out he was that old and on Stevens staff in Boston.

I am 5'7

and sleep like a starfish so a Twin XL lofted in my dorm room was brutal. I have no idea how the larger athletes make it work.

Jeff Trashill

is now the longest tenured coach in Detroit pro sports. YUCK.

I always like these kinds of questions

But I feel like they also kind of depend on where I am at in my life. In my current spot: I want to live in Austin or Nashville. Both excellent Southern cities for a twenty-something like myself (and outside of where I have always lived: Michigan)

If I were older and starting a family, I would want to raise my kids in Ann Arbor. I was lucky enough to grow up there and would hope to provide a similar experience to what my parents gave me.

San Diego always sticks out though, weather is damn near perfect, vibrant city. I would move there in a heartbeat.

LAMichigan took the words out of my mouth

It was nine years, two coaches, and one beat writer ago. Nick is probably the best writer that covers Michigan Football on a daily basis, so if someone is going to get TRIGGERED because he happens to write for the Free Press, their loss. Move past it people.

Hmm where do I start

Northwestern 2006 and 2008: Brutally cold and I was at the game with my dad who was in somewhat poor health at the time, left both games early to watch somewhere warmer and did not regret it at all

Michigan State 2010: Duh, for reasons listed by others already

Western Michigan 2011: Brutally hot, left before the Thunderstorm and glad I did considering that storm made the windows in my apartment shake

Illinois 2012: One of the few times I willfully left a game early, drank a little too much at the tailgate, decided to watch the rest from home since it was about 38 and raining

MSU 2015: You already know why

OSU 2015: I stayed until the end but after the season we had, despite getting our teeth kicked in by the Buckeyes, I was embarassed at the aerial shots of people streaming out of the stadium like we were wrapping up some 6-6 season.

Former Michigan Football player Warde Manuel

Thinking about the Halo coming back

Piggybacking off Point 1

I am not wishing ill upon him or that he fail or anything of that nature, but All or Nothing did sour my opinion on him. Guy had an awful lot of bravado and didn't seem to be self-aware enough to realize his play was a major problem during a lot of those games. As for him landing with the Lions, he's a warm camp body, maybe another team calls, maybe he frames his practice jersey and on with his life. Good luck to him, whatever happens.

My Notes

1. Sad to see Gamora go, I really liked her in Guardians of the Galaxy

2. Thor is the most badass avenger, I thought this in Ragnarok after he lost his eye and started kicking ass set to Immigrant Song, my thoughts were further confirmed in this movie.

3. I really need to see the Dr. Strange origin film, he has been great in the movies I've seen since.

4. While I understand *what* it represented the fact that everyone basically got "raptured" after Thanos snapped his fingers was uh, something.

5. Who will play Captain Marvel?

6. My money is that Iron Man doesn't make it out of the sequel alive

Mercedes Benz E63 AMG Wagon

If I win the lottery I will drive immediately to the MB dealership to buy that wagon on the spot.

You should never trade anything

For a Land Crusier. They will last FOREVER. That's why I'm targeting a 4Runner as my next car, just buy it and it will go 250k no problem.
