Woodson's Heisman pose

Submitted by Sean@MATW on
Anyone else catch his pick-six in the Lion's game? He pulled a Desmond and struck a pose after the score. I like the Lions but it's good to see Woodson have a big day: two INTs, a TD, and a big feature on his philanthropy (with a Michigan helmet displayed behind him)

Don't know if someone picked this up somewhere else, but Woodson just donated $2,000,000 to the children's hospital in A2. The cream always rises to the top.

I'm so glad to see his love of kids/UofM shine through. He has done so much for Mott over the years and to see him come back and give the money is a great story. The Heisman pose was phenomenal. I miss those days. Hopefully Greg Brown is taking notes.

My mother works at Mott and dinner was at her house today. When I told her about Woodson's gift, she immediately said that he used to visit the hospital a lot. Now, U-M players visit the kids there all the time. For my mom to remember him 12 years later means he must have visited many, many, many times. Its great that he still feels the connection to Michigan and the hospital. His gift is amazing.

ESPN's recap of today's game says that: "Woodson returned his second interception for a score late in the game and struck a Heisman Trophy pose in the end zone, just as he did in 1997 at Michigan before going on to win the award." I swear that only Desmond struck the pose, but I may be wrong. I thought after Woodson returned the punt against OSU he just got mobbed by teammates right away.

I am pretty sure they just screwed up and mixed up the two. I don't remember Woodson ever striking the pose in a game. And I have never seen a picture or video of him doing so throughout all these years. Also, most people expected Manning to win the award during the whole last part of the season, with Woodson's bid only picking up huge momentum after his amazing performance in the OSU game. So, it would have been presumptuous for him to have done the pose then. In '91 when Desmond did it, everyone and their mom knew he was gonna take the Heisman.

Desmond only struck the pose. I read Woodson was going to do it, but his teammates mobbed him before he had the chance. If you watch the 1997 replay, you can see he was trying to do the pose.

Refs cracked down on the "pose" and other celebrations around 1995, I think. They rarely called the stuff in 1991 when Desmond ran his back. You had to get in someone's face or take off your helmet (the Emmitt Smith pose) to get called. Just great to see Charles playing HOF-caliber football after getting out of the Black Hole in Oakland. That first INT on the dive in front of the receiver was classic Woodson!

that he was going to do it but was too tired after the punt return. Also the '97 game wasn't exactly over at that point either. Desmond's game was a blowout.

No joke, right before this happened, I was debating with my girlfriend's aunt on whether or not Woodson should have gotten the Heisman. She's from Tennessee, so naturally she can't stand him. Then he pulled the pose. Beautiful timing!

you supposed to clutch the ball close to the body and stiff-arm with the other hand, rather than stiff-arm with the ball? :) Regardless, awesome to see him pull that, especially in Detroit.

I love C-Wood, but he cost me money today. I had Detroit in a 10 pt teaser so the spread was bumped up to +21.5. C-Woods meaningless pick 6 resulted in GB winning by 22 and cost me $110 bucks. Arrrggghhhh! Maybe, I'll send him a receipt for the money he cost me like that Oregon fan who sent a receipt for his travel expenses/game ticket to Chip Kelly when they lost to Boise St.

Does anyone know if there is a good picture of this. I would love to get a nice photo printed of this to go next to my Desmond Photo of him striking the Heisman.

This is an old thread but was just trying to find some place to put this question:

Does anyone know where I could find the radio call of Chuck Woodson's punt return against Ohio State?  I remember downloading it off of a geocities-type site back in the late 90's but haven't been able to locate it.  Any help would be appreciated.

I was a bit disappointed with Keith Jacksons call on the punt return. His call on the Woodson 40 yard reception, the pick 6, the Woodson int in the endzone, all great calls by Jackson but not for the punt return.
