Herbie was really good last…

Herbie was really good last night...and had the patience of a saint with Fowler, who did not cover himself in glory. Missed players names, misidentified plays...just a really spotty performance from him. He called a Donovan Edwards run an end around, and said that JJ wildly missed the pass that went right through Morgan's hands. Herbie gently corrected him every time.

OMG! The tailgate mentioned is my friend's! The Michigan shortbread is what my wife makes every week! This is fantastic

I graduated from Community…

I graduated from Community with Carl Tabb, though he played football at Huron. It's wild to see a D1 level athlete be just so much better than everyone else in high school. He wanted to be a doctor in high school, with no real NFL pretensions, so I think things worked out well for him. No interesting stories, but I ran into him on campus when we were at Michigan together and he was a good dude.

God how I hated Rico Blasi…

God how I hated Rico Blasi when he was at Miami in the old CCHA. I was at the ncaa final when they lost a 2 goal lead in the final minute of the 3rd...I actually felt bad for the kids, but was happy he lost a championship in such an agonizing way.

Oh how I feel that. He was…

Oh how I feel that. He was on the team when I was in grad school *sob*

Sambora...I am a season ticket holder who will be unable to go to the semis, but put in a request anyway so that I would have access to a ticket for the final should M make it. Do you happen to be on reddit or twitter? If so, DM me at the same screen name on either platform

That's the University…

That's the University created course that is also available on Coursera/edX. The freecodecamp version appears to be an aggregation of the videos in the course, though the course on Coursera/edX (which as pointed out above, is also available for free) will have additional context/assessment throughout, which may be a better way to experience it for many (you can practice, you have a community of other learners to assist, there are people from UM helping out if you have any questions in the discussion sessions)

General public free course…

General public free course access is audit access, which because of how both platforms are set up does not allow access to any graded assignments. Just to clarify. Glad that you are making use of the Michigan MOOCs!

edX doesn't have the full…

edX doesn't have the full series, just the intro and python data structures. Also, if you go through Michigan Online, you can access the full version on edX for free with umich login credentials.

Python happens to be the…

Python happens to be the specialty of U-M coding MOOCs offered on Coursera and edX. Dr Chuck Severance is a superstar in this field, and his Python for Everybody series is one of the most popular MOOC series of all time. Python 3 Programming is also an option that goes into slightly more depth (neither assumes background knowledge of python) and was created by, among many, Paul Resnick, who is now assistant Dean at the School of Information.

Best of all...the certificates are freely available to UM alumni, students, faculty and staff through online.umich.edu

All U-M created courses…

All U-M created courses remain free to students, faculty, staff and alumni using UMich authentication through Michigan Online.

Python for Everybody is the second most popular course of all time on Coursera. Python 3 Programming is slightly more advanced, but may appeal to someone looking for more oomph.

Tickets were made available…

Tickets were made available to season ticket holders to pre-order (unlike, as far as I can tell, the first round), so the pre-orders were fulfilled immediately upon it going live, making it look like they were purchased by bots. Source: am season ticket holder who pre-ordered tickets to the semis.

Dang. Sending all positivity your, your family, and, most especially, Finneas's way. I'm glad that this silly little community of ours can be a distraction for you. Go Blue!

I think that Bowman would be…

I think that Bowman would be the backup if there was an injury. Davis Warren's time makes sense as the "development backup"

My understanding, and this…

My understanding, and this is now 15 years old so take it for what it's worth, but the difference is that the IM teams work around the hockey team, but that the hockey team has clear first come, first serve basis for the use of all of Yost's facilities. You could not have that preference anymore with a varsity women's team because of title ix. Even if you treated as 1a and 1b (which would be dubious, legally), the scheduling of women's games could potentially get in the way. Red, and presumably Mel, wanted complete control of the facilities and to not give up any logistical control of how it could be scheduled.

I knew a few members of the…

I knew a few members of the team in the aughts. The perception was that the main barrier was Berenson...he didn't want to share facilities in any way. Assuming Mel was the same way

Problem with this…

Problem with this proposition is that unless the rules change, he can't make NIL money in the States, because he is on a student visa from Canada. It really changes the calculus for international players like him and Diabate, and in the wrong direction for us

It’s from the Schlissel email dump. He sent his paramour an email that just read “lonely -m”

Back in the old college…

Back in the old college football blog days (ah, blogspot), there was a Georgia blog called "Hey Jenny Slater" that I read pretty religiously. It's proprietor, Doug (can't remember his last name), came up for The Game in 2007. Really cool dude who pointed out many of the similarities between Georgia and UM. Even said that had he not gone to Georgia, UM would have been his college pick. Thanks for these insights!

Were you a Wolves fan prior to TSS? I'm mostly a Premiership agnostic, but have a soft spot for them because of Daryl

Yeah, this is a bad take…

Yeah, this is a bad take. This is a critical examination of the use of language by Rutgers, and exactly the type of thing that a good English department should be looking at. One doesn't have to agree with the decision that they made, but to say "This should be grounds for immediate expulsion from the conference" means that you have very little understanding of academia and are trying to leverage it uncritically as an argument for issues you have regarding athletic inclusion in the conference.

The secondary logo anchor…

The secondary logo anchor with the Space Needle is fantastic. Better than the primary, imo

Pretty sure that umich.edu…

Pretty sure that umich.edu emails are validated according to status in the UM system, which would keep track of your affiliation (student, alumni, faculty/staff) and prevent that.

That being said, the courses created by UM that are on Coursera (as well as edX and Futurelearn) are available to all alumni, faculty and staff for free though Michigan Online.

Update...the 2yo is not…

Update...the 2yo is not napping. Fuuuuuuuuu.....

Same boat with a 2 yo and 4…

Same boat with a 2 yo and 4 yo. My wife and I try as best we can to talk through our meeting schedules and work needs for the week to come on Sunday when the kids are asleep to make a plan for how/when we can divvy things up between the two. We make a schedule for the kids every day...9-10 creative time (often play doh or drawing, some times building blocks), 10-11 is Library time (Ann Arbor District Library has been streaming storytimes on youtube every day at 10 since they've been closed), 11-12 is active time (we try to get outside weather permitting, or run around and roughhouse inside if need be); 12-1 lunch, 1-3 quiet time (the 2 yo takes a pretty regular nap at this time...when he has trouble with it, our day goes to hell; the 4 yo understands the concept of playing quietly by herself for a little bit, so we can get away with this), 3-4 is often a call with grandparents, and 4-5 is kid show time.

We aren't as productive as we would like to be, but we can get SOME things done. At the end of the day, we need to be forgiving of ourselves as much as possible for what we aren't able to get done. And I want to emphasize, it's ok to lean into screen time! The quality matters so much more than the quantity. It sucks, but hey, at least we're not homeschooling!

Good luck, OP!

Continuing the tradition…

Continuing the tradition from the original Teach-Ins, the University has been developing Teach-Outs to explore these (and other) topics https://online.umich.edu/teach-outs/earth-day-at-50-teach-out/

I've had it for about a year…

I've had it for about a year. I've loved it, particularly the unlimited DVR space... I set up all tourney's (CWS, Gold Cup, WWC) this summer to record everything, and was able to make sure I didn't miss a game I might be interested in without having to think too much. One thing to be very careful of, however, is opening the app in the middle of a game...it will recommend things to watch on your home page, and likely will have teams you are interested in front and center. Knowing this, I've gotten used to flipping away from this screen very quickly.

I went to high school with…

I went to high school with Carl Tabb. During his recruitment, Northwestern was listed for a time as a school he was interested in. The summer before our senior year, Rashidi Wheeler died during a conditioning drill for Northwestern. I asked Carl one day if he was actually thinking about going there and he replied something along the lines of, "They f'ing killed a kid, man. I'm not going there".

Maryland just destroyed their ability to recruit any players who have other options.

Why I'm not worried about tracking issues

Not only was the Cinci punter an Aussie, but also left footed. They were mostly short punts with weird spin. DPJ will track other punters much better.

That said, very impressed with Perry's tracking in the same situation...exactly what was needed in that situation

According to UM twitter feed

Today is the 46th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 15, aka the "Space, bitches. Space." mission. Good timing, Seth

Great advice

The blankets from the hospital are key...I brought home three different items, one each for a dog and two cats to acclimate to before bringing newborn home. When we brought my daughter home, I also made sure that the pets each got a chance to come and give her a good sniff soon after getting inside. Over a year later, and we have had no problems at all, even when the toddler gets a little handsy

Trader Joe's, anyway

Trader Joe's, anyway

Worth noting

Of those five starters, four of whom having a few years in the NFL, the fifth, Perry Dorrestein, also hung around practice squads for a couple of years. So a sip of coffee in the NFL for all, if not a full cup.
