Don't think so, that one always felt like he was going elsewhere and the "extras" were blatant.  In this case, it seems like he wanted to play in the SEC and had an awesome visit to Georgia and Georgia has always been one the cleaner SEC programs.  There're a lot of reasons for a player to pick Georgia that don't involve shady shit, I hate that we keep breaking that out as an excuse, when it just may be that a high school kid likes another school better.

We can go ahead and post the Harris to Bama link now right?  Remember when we thought we'd have 9 OL committed and thought our lower ranked guys were going to give us depth.......yeah.

Losing Wilson doesn't change as much as you might think. We're still going to get Ruiz and push hard for Filiaga (who we migtht already lead for right now). The only thing that's different is that now there's probably a spot for Makhi Becton, who Sam Webb has said is higher on M's OL board than rankings would indicate (Sam insinuated that Becton was more of a priority than Banks, for instance). It's a bummer, but things could be much worse.

Seriously.. at least get the right breed of dog for an announcement.  No bulldogs owners around the school?  A pug is as similar to a bulldog as a chihuahua.

Yes, sorry.  Somewhat annoyed right now.

As it pertains to the goings on of the team. I think it was mentioned before that does not apply to recruiting. And it apears very few if anyone actually knew where Wilson was going to go. No need to disparage a poster who has supplied more than his share of interesting tidbits.

Except for the fact that he CONSTANTLY chimes in with recruiting tidbits pertaining to upcoming commits...  He put his balls out there several times saying this kid was BLUE. Just look at his recent post history. He very will could be tied to the team, but his tail is now tucked deep in his legs with this recent announcement. Dude should be embarrased as fuck!

I doubt it.  Maybe the coaches were as surprised as we were today.  He has provided a lot of very good and accurate info and I hope he continues to do so.

Mike Weber went to bed last year,  with coaches and everyone else thinking Michigan was the pick.  Then it changed.  Crootin' man!

am not really suprised, and I don't consider this to be too big a deal. Would have like to have got him here because I think the kid had a very high upside, but he could just as easily be a bust imo. If one of his high school coaches gets hired at Georgia anytime soon than we will know the rumors were true.

Not to be a debbie downer but if they were able to pull Wilson, they probably gonna get Soloman as well.

Hmm. Alabama insiders said that the kid wanted to play in the SEC. Guess he wanted early/lasting playing time. Knew he could start here immediately, but would be replaced by Newsome soon too.

Good luck to him. If he wanted the SEC, he has a good school there, and I wish him all the best. imagine he was your neighbor's son, not a prospective talent we need. He's an 18 YO kid trying to make the best decision under a ton of pressure. All the ballz in the world are just guesses.  Yes, I'd love for him to have come here. Now I simply hope he has a healthy, succesful career and *gets his degree* out of UGA.

Honigford, Steuber, Herbert, and Hall in this years class would probably be a good start as far as an answer to that question.

Filiaga and Becton are still on the board and I have a feeling the coaches are going to watch some extra OL film in January to see if they can find any late bloomers.

Kinda fishy how one visit changed his whole prespective. Isaiah had a chance to compete for a starting role as a freshman, most likely would have started. Now im kind od concerned about the OL, this is a bummer.

It seems like we were banking on Wilson to fill the void potentially lost by Newsome not being ready next year.  Do we think any of the current verbal commits have the ability to contribute early or are there other elite tackles left on the board we have a chance with?

It sounds like the OT commits we have right now are more projects than instant impact type guys. People who are more knowledgable than I am about these things have said that Chuck Filiaga is the type of prospect who would be in the mix for playing time from day one, though. I'd imagine he'll be the highest priority left on the OL board now. We're getting Ruiz on Monday and seem to be in good position for Mekhi Becton and TJ Slaton (who is an interior player, but still) too. Losing Wilson hurts but we'll be fine. Still in great shape to land 6 or 7 solid prospects.

Filiaga is left, but he isn't a plug and play as a frosh. As for the current commits? None of them have the ability to play for 2 years! at least, but thats just my opinion. OL is a MAJOR concern from here on out with these misses. Filiaga and Ruiz are musts

I assumed a 5-star guy that looks like him and has his size (6'7" 354 lbs) has a pretty good chance at getting playing time as a true freshman.  Granted, looks don't mean everything, but he's pretty physicall mature and looks like a big strong kid and I generally get the consensus that what keeps kids from playing early on the line is size and strength.  If he's a 5-star and already has the size and strength, given our lack of depth, I'd assume he's got a good chance at early playing time.

Our tackle depth now is Newsome (if healthy), Dawson, Bredeson, Onwenu, JBB, Ulizio, and the true freshman.  Judging by the fact that Bredeson and JBB are the only ones that have seen any significant snaps, Bredenson got moved to the interior, JBB got pulled after not faring so well, Dawson is a senior, and we haven't seen much of Ulizio, and Newsome might not be ready, it seems like the tackle positions are wide open for a talented 5-star true freshman that is already college ready in terms of size and strength.

aren't plug and play as true freshmen.  There are exceptions but usually if you're playing a true freshmen on your oline it speaks more to the lack of depth in the program at that position than anything else.. and usually that position is not a strength on your oline.
