What qualifies as stick-your-head-in-the-oven news? Must be the single worst thing you would ever expect to hear because of the whole dying thing.

It's misguided to say that wages determine performance - especially when talking about sports. Is the last man on an mlb roster today better than Ty Cobb or Babe Ruth? I guess they must be since they make more money (accounting for inflation). ADs and coaches seemed to be performing quite all right back in the days that they "only" made a couple hundred thousand

I'm excited about this commitment and wish Dawkins all the best in AA. Quick question - with his focus on academics, was the issue of him attending Stanford ever addressed?

Seeing as Morgan has exhausted his eligibility, I don't think Horford was concerned with Morgan taking his minutes

OL is the position that requires the largest physical leap from high school to college, so I don't think it's unreasonable when people are nervous about starting a freshman in OL. Skill positions are completely different. Look back at AP or Julio Jones and tell me they could not have competed in the NFL as freshman? Now name a freshman OL who you htink could have been a starter/impact player in the NFL?

What does this mean regarding Malik McDowell?
|17 weeks 17 hours ago||I disagree...||
I disagree... I think. It really would depend on what you think the market wage would be.
Even the walk-ons on the team are providing VERY highly skilled labor (as in less than 5% of the population would even be physically able to reasonably attempt) for hundreds of hours over the year - how would you value that?
|17 weeks 17 hours ago||Yes... But||
Yes, athletes receive compensation, but I think the fact that everyone who is a fan of college sports is willing to overlook is that they are not earning market wages. This combined with the fact that football (and basketball) have no minor leagues, essentially forces athletes (not all) to accept a wage that is 100s to 1000s times less then what they could command in an open market and they don't even get paid in cash. Add in that "student-athletes" are largely prevented from taking on other jobs, cannot get compensated for other sports that they are good at (Jeremy Bloom comes to mind), or even be compensated for the exploitation of their own image (O'Bannon case, Denard jerseys, etc.) and I think we can admit that for many the "payment" they receive is not even close to fair.
|17 weeks 18 hours ago||Well...||
Hard to say what the overall implications of this will be. With the O'bannon case and all of the other stuff making its way through the court system, I can't say that I'm too surprised. My first thought (a selfish one) is this is overall good news for Michigan because we have the resources to compete no matter how the game will be played going forward. My next thought (not thinking as a huge fan of CFB in its current format) is that this is a great thing for the players and the right thing to do

Loved the B1G themed comments - what he said about Izzo (as others have pointed out), but Bo Ryan as well
Amazing that Vincent Price is still spry enough to coach Wisconsin basketball.

I know it's probably the build and all of that... but this guy reminds me of David Boston. A guy who could get decent separation in college but also relied heavily on physical domination. Typically does not fly in the NFL unless you are an absolute freak athlete (read Megatron)
|19 weeks 19 hours ago||Not related to Mundy, but boy||
Not related to Mundy, but boy do Stafford, Suh and Megatron sure tie up a lot of cap-space. Seems like this has been one of the more active free-agencies over the past few years and sucks to be a bystander (especially when you're not a playoff team).
|19 weeks 1 day ago||Yes a complete joke...||
Decades of sell-outs and part of the largest attendance in America every game. I'm sure this should all be credited to alumni and other fans right?
People need to recognize that some of the moves the AD has made and our performance on the field are enough to turn off many fanbases and students are a part of that fanbase. I'm not saying that more students shouldn't show up to the games, and show up on time, but the amount of disgust directed at students on this board is seriously misguided

Would totally be onboard with that - although I think they could wait until the 4th (maybe 5th but they don't have a pick)
|19 weeks 2 days ago||Please no...||
I'm all for Watkins, but the price will be too steep! How many number 2 WRs are worth mortgaging the future and hardly the 3rd pick if you were lucky enough to be sitting on it. What you need is a little slot guy that can consistently get open and make defenses pay for double teaming Megatron. That type of guy you can find much later in the draft.
If you look at what the Lions are proposing to do, what other team is a model for this - probably only Atlanata. If you look at the truly elite passing offenses of the last few years (Denver, New England, New Orleans, Greeen Bay) they all get by with 0 to 1 stars at WR. Of course, they have better QBs at the helm, but the point is that Atlanta is the exception not the norm, and they are not the team that the Lions should try to emulate given the needs at other positions

We won 50% of the games you listed above and lost 1 by 3 points -- I guess that doesn't count as competing in your book
