Who is Michigan’s coach on 1/1/21: Harbaugh or the field?

I’m still betting it’s Harbaugh. Despite today’s developments, I still have a feeling that, between the COVID season and avoiding an epic  asskicking  from OSU, that it’s going to give Manuel enough cover to let Jim have just one more chance. And that Harbaugh is more than willing to take one more year of a cushy job where he still makes big bucks, and now has absolutely no expectations of success from fans and alumni to weigh him down.

Could be wrong, but either way the Harbaugh era is coming to an eventual end in such a bizarre nightmare fashion that Stephen King couldn’t have imagined it.

So, money on the table kids. Who is the leader of “THE WINNINGEST PROGRAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL” come 2021?

And luckily he has proven he can coach and recruit. Fact of the matter is, we lucked out with Juwan. It is one situation where going with a "Michigan Man" paid off. Had he been Juwan Howard, assistant coach of the Heat and former Illinois basketball player, he never would have even been considered.

Pretty convinced now it’s over for Harbaugh. Extension would be announced this week if happening for recruiting purposes and not having to deal with the pitch forks further. Waiting until after the season buys them time to get everything lined up.

They knew last weekend OSU was not happening. We are all days behind on what’s at work behind closed doors. It’s a private chess match that we see the moves well after the fact. He gone and other coach likely in line based on these events!

I thinking the field at this point. There is no reason to keep delaying is there is an extension happening. It's a very bad decision if Harbaugh gets extended after the 19th because it will have a very serious impact on the recruiting class at this point.

Field! Take it to the bank! "Firing" is exactly the language they must avoid. Warde is giving Harbaugh time to work out a deal with the NFL, save face, and save the University $6+ million of Harbaugh's final year. Plus, it forces the NFL to have to negotiate the buyout. We've been hearing exactly the "rumors" Warde needs to have out there so the NFL will move first. There was certainly an extension "offered," which helps Harbaugh gain leverage in negotiating with the NFL ("See they want me back, things aren't that bad.") But this is exactly what has to play out to move a former player legend out. Watch! Warde is saving this university millions AND getting us a fresh start with a fresh coach. You heard it here first.

This seems eminently sensible to me. If the plan were an extension, literally everyone involved would have a stake in making that announcement ASAP, given the recruiting implications and overall optics projecting program stability. If the plan were to finesse a graceful parting of the ways, they would delay for as long as possible to get past signing day. Which they are. The only other  option is utter and universal incompetence, which I can’t rule out entirely, I suppose.

Correct. It's very easy and obvious to publicly state that you're working out the details of an extension and everyone is on the same page. One sentence would end all the uncertainty. The only reason that you don't make that statement is that it's not actually what's happening.
