Ann Landers
And her sister Dear Abby?
Somewhere in heaven those two are partying with Keith Jackson.

Wait. Did something happen to Keith Jackson?
Harrison Ford is a quarter Jewish.
Not too shabby!

3rd round to the niners. Wish he would’ve stayed but can’t say it is a horrible decision to go especially with his injuries.
He's projected to be a 4th or 5th rounder, I don't see why that was such bad advice.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:20 PM ^
Well if he played this year and became a third round choice he would have 2-3 million dollars more guaranteed. As it turned out he probably made a bad choice to sit out.

You sure about that?

OP and this comment did not age well.
Congrats, Ambry!

Mea culpa. Mea culpa.
turned out okay for him.
You are one of many who have poorly aged posts tonight. Congratulations

He was just selected by the 49ers in round 3 at pick 102.
dodged a Lions bullet at 101

What do you mean? He’s absolutely going to get drafted.
But when you leave early as a junior and you don’t get drafted in the first couple rounds is it worth leaving early? Clearly there was a lot of room for improvement. And he’s not a lock to get drafted
April 30th, 2021 at 11:11 PM ^
But the draft wasn’t his only consideration. At the time he was making his decision, it was unclear to the medical and scientific community what the implications of chronic colitis (which can be autoimmune in origin) were vis-à-vis COVID. That’s a pretty major factor to consider.
Frist couple of rounds?
there are TONS of good players out there... Wyatt Davis was a five star that got drafted in the 3rd, Amon St. Ra, hasn't even been picked yet.
There's also a chance for no improvement, not to mention injury to consider...Also an equal chance of falling next draft
if you're projected 5th or worse and had a bad year or was injured, then you probably ought to go back...if you are projected 3rd that's not too bad, esp with combines/pro days that can boost you
Sometimes, guys just want their pro careers to start. Ambry wasn't going to improve that much from what he was drafted at...mid to late 2nd maybe?
Who is advising Thomas Haden Church? After Wings and Sideways he seemed destined for stardom. Really disappointed in his choices since then. I feel like he got bad career advice.
Hey, he was a Spiderman villain! Steven Weber can't say that.
April 30th, 2021 at 10:45 PM ^
Tony Shalhoub was Monk. Steven Weber can't say that either.
and Mrs. Maisel's dad
Wasn't he the bad guy made of sand in that one Spiderman movie??!!
He was, everyone hated that movie. I liked it!
Just saw him in We Bought a Zoo. Terrible, terrible film. Cameron Crowe shouldn’t be allowed to make movies anymore.
I'm more disappointed that they haven't done a Wings reunion!
And that Crystal Bernard retired from acting. I loved her in those Claus movies with Steve Guttenberg!

Sideways is all that matters.

I’ve met him. He’s kind of a douche.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:48 PM ^
Sideways was not until much later. I hope Haden Church fired the person who told him to do Ned and Stacey. Sideways allowed Haden Church to make a comeback of sorts. Too bad he never guest starred on Monk.
Jerry Maguire.
By tomorrow Thomas will be earning more money than most people on this board.
But, yeah, bad choice.
I guess some are feeling that if he had not left early and had played, he could have improved his draft status for even MORE money.
Back when Cameron Crowe still had the magic.
You wait till day 2 of the draft for this take?
More like, "he only waited until the second round to declare it a bad decision?" Ambry wasn't going in the Top-40, don't know why he's mad.
He opted out of 2020 due to illness (colitis) and concerns over COVID.
Should he have transferred to a school where there's no COVID?
Uh, yes? Why wasn't he advised to go to the school without COVID?!
April 30th, 2021 at 10:24 PM ^
I don't fault anyone for opting out in such a crazy year. But I don't think Thomas ever said he opted out for health reasons.....I think that was just people on the internet associating his previous illness with the reason he opted out. The sense I got was that he took the Nico route and never really considered playing so he could prepare for the draft.
As I said, last year was crazy so no faulting these kids and their decisions. From purely a football point of view I would have advised Nico and Thomas to play in a normal year because they needed to show more on tape consistently so they would move up the draft. Hill didn't get drafted at CB and he had a lot more success than Thomas. DPJ dropped quite a bit and he had done more than Nico. And I have no idea if McGrone has shown enough to get drafted. We will see.....I like them all but each is more potential than performance.

I know it's cool to bash on the team, for many good reasons, but I'm not intentionally doing that here. From what we've seen lately, and "well this coming season could be different" has no bearing because you can hope in one hand etc., but he might very well know what one more year will do and it might well be very little.
You would think that if you're going to give up some eligibility, you'd do so in order to be more than a mid-to-late round pick.
1st round pick, absolutely. I get it. Go cash in your ticket. I'll happily give you a ride to the draft if you like. But to go early to maybe be a 4th rounder? Hmmph. That's a headscratcher to me.
The NFL draft isn’t like the NBA where a second round pick is a roster long shot. Third and fourth round picks are often starters as rookies.
OTOH, why not play an extra year in college, and play yourself into 2nd round instead of the 4th?
That’s good advice for Nico, but Ambry had health concerns.
Or get hurt and never play again. Or play yourself out of the 4th or 5th round to undrafted. Also, new DC, new scheme. No telling how a player will adapt to new coaching
3rd rounders get about a million dollars guaranteed. 4th rounders get about 700k. And that is just their guaranteed money--they can obviously make a ton more if they stick.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with going in the 3rd or 4th round.
