Who is advising Ambry Thomas

He seems like such a good kid but I don’t understand why he left or at least why he didn’t transfer ?   I feel like these kids get such bad advice

But the draft wasn’t his only consideration. At the time he was making his decision, it was unclear to the medical and scientific community what the implications of chronic colitis (which can be autoimmune in origin) were vis-à-vis COVID. That’s a pretty major factor to consider.

Frist couple of rounds?

there are TONS of good players out there... Wyatt Davis was a five star that got drafted in the 3rd, Amon St. Ra, hasn't even been picked yet.

There's also a chance for no improvement, not to mention injury to consider...Also an equal chance of falling next draft

if you're projected 5th or worse and had a bad year or was injured, then you probably ought to go back...if you are projected 3rd that's not too bad, esp with combines/pro days that can boost you

Sometimes, guys just want their pro careers to start. Ambry wasn't going to improve that much from what he was drafted at...mid to late 2nd maybe?

Who is advising Thomas Haden Church? After Wings and Sideways he seemed destined for stardom. Really disappointed in his choices since then. I feel like he got bad career advice.

He opted out of 2020 due to illness (colitis) and concerns over COVID.

Should he have transferred to a school where there's no COVID?

I don't fault anyone for opting out in such a crazy year.  But I don't think Thomas ever said he opted out for health reasons.....I think that was just people on the internet associating his previous illness with the reason he opted out.  The sense I got was that he took the Nico route and never really considered playing so he could prepare for the draft.

As I said, last year was crazy so no faulting these kids and their decisions.  From purely a football point of view I would have advised Nico and Thomas to play in a normal year because they needed to show more on tape consistently so they would move up the draft.  Hill didn't get drafted at CB and he had a lot more success than Thomas.  DPJ dropped quite a bit and he had done more than Nico.  And I have no idea if McGrone has shown enough to get drafted.  We will see.....I like them all but each is more potential than performance.

I know it's cool to bash on the team, for many good reasons, but I'm not intentionally doing that here.  From what we've seen lately, and "well this coming season could be different"  has no bearing because you can hope in one hand etc., but he might very well know what one more year will do and it might well be very little.

You would think that if you're going to give up some eligibility, you'd do so in order to be more than a mid-to-late round pick.

1st round pick, absolutely. I get it. Go cash in your ticket. I'll happily give you a ride to the draft if you like. But to go early to maybe be a 4th rounder? Hmmph. That's a headscratcher to me.
