What do you think lies in the future for Hoke?

Submitted by taistreetsmyhero on

Assuming the inevitable happens after this season, where do you think Hoke will wind up in the coming years? He's already had his shot at his dream job, but do you think he will still have the fire/passion to coach again some place else? Will he settle into a DC position or DL position at a top school?

I don't personally like him as the head coach of Michigan, but I think I would like him as an overall person, and I believe a lot of people in the football world with connections who know him feel the same.  Because of this, and also because he doesn't strike me as a guy who would spend anytime away from football,  I think he's back at next year as either as a d-line coach for a major school / NFL, or as a defensive coordinator for a mid major / low tier power 5 program.  2 years from now he'll be back as a head coach for a small school.

I know this isn't realistic but with his recruiting skills and the way the players seem to like him and his passion for Michigan, it'd be great to see him stay on as DL coach. Or maybe something involving player relations or recruiting in the AD.

He'll end up as the head coach in the PAC-12, battling RR's Arizona team every year for the Championship in a new 10 year war.   Hundreds of MGOBLOG posters will claim throughout the decade  to have always rooted for both of them to stay at Michigan.

from above...

1) Takes a year and gets his head right.

2)NFL D-line coach for 7-8 years

3) Takes a "demotion" ala Mattison and comes back here for a couple years to finish his career by coaching our d-line and doing some recruiting.

5 time SuperBowl Champion coach Jim Harbaugh takes over at Michigan.   He is given unlimited budget to return Michigan to greatness.   He hires Hoke as DC and Rodriguez as OC to create the highest paid college coaching staff in the history of sport.

Michigan goes on to win 10 consecutive Big 10 Championships, culminating in a 105-0 rout of Ohio State in the staff's last regular season game at the horseshoe.  Ohio fans give the team standing ovation for the unprecedented display of talent and coaching.

Michigan's Heisman winning quarterback, gives all the credit to new QB coach and father, Tom Brady.

Big 10 commissioner, David Brandon, announces that after the highest ratings ever for a college football game, the Big 10 Network will be renamed the Wolverine Sports Network.   It will also diversify into a sporting event food channel and a shopping network for sports related items.

There are plenty of fast rising coordinators with the potential for upside.

With Hoke you know the ceiling - and floor.   With a coordinator you dont know so you can sell the ceiling.  Illinois is a lot like MSU in that I think its been an underachieving program for decades.  Dave Aranda from Wisconsin would be an inspired choice - they could go after Narduzzi, they could go after Herman from OSU, etc.  Mike Norvell from ASU should be getting a call from a lot of teams this summer.

My first thought is Hoke reminds me of Weiss and what did Weiss do but Weiss had way more NFL experience plus had coordinator experience, something Hoke lacks.  He went directly from DL coach to HC.   Post ND he went to be an OC in the NFL 1 year then Florida but I think his rep was considered different than Hoke's - i.e. people still believed he was a good offensive mind who maybe was not a HC material.  Then Kansas offered which is a bottom tier power 5 conf team.  Don't know - is Hoke DC material.  If so he might get a job at a school like Vanderbilt as a DC.  I dont see him coaching in the big 5 conferences as a HC right now.  He was in the MAC and Mountain West before this opportunity.

I think he could land a head coaching gig at a MAC-level school. He may have to spend a year as a position coach (I don't think he can land a coordinator gig right away since he's never been a coordinator before), but I could see a non-Power 5 program giving him another shot. Ball State might like to have him back, if that job opens up.

NFL DL coach and then back in the MAC as HC within 3 years is my guess.  I'd guess either Kent State, Miami, or Ball State depending on how those coaching staffs do over the next few years.  Who knows maybe he winds up at EMU.

After the clock ticks to zero after the OSU game, it will be a sad sight. I know he received millions of dollars but I can't help feel sorry for him. It's his dream job, and I wished it worked out for him. He was just in over his head. To win at the highest level I think you need to be something that Hoke is against being. Wish him luck.

"To win at the highest level I think you need to be something that Hoke is against being"

Hoke is against being competent? Or being attentive to detail? Or modern football? I guess that last one is true but I doubt the first two are....he just couldn't do it. No shame in that, lots of people couldn't do it either. And he got paid millions to figure that out so he will be fine long term.

1-2 seasons off, then will take a HC job at a mid-major. I could see him back at a major level college program down the road. I don't see him in the NFL.

Best alternative for all involved parties is for Hoke to scan tickets at Michigan Stadium on Saturdays. He continues to partake in the history and tradition of the program, while flashing his lovable personality to the fan base and parents of potential recruits. Put him on the Main/Stadium entrance (opposite the students entrance).

Tell you what...if Hoke wants to coach again...he had better find his passion and fire again.  The guy is the most passive marshmellow on the sidelines and in press conferences that I have ever seen from a HC.  Its like he has low-T or something.  The firey "this is Michigan" guy left the campus a long, long time ago...and it is ODD.
