We're getting called out by Huskies

Submitted by trueblue262 on

Just strolling (not trolling) through some UCONN blogs and came across the following

Q: Wondering if it would be wise to have a couple practices down at the Rent with the PA system screaming loud. That way the offense can get used to hearing calls while 100,000+ fans are trying to distract them. - Weyuo, CT

A: I'm sure they'll be prepared for crowd noise but my understanding is they'll be playing in front of more of a, well, wine and cheese crowd from what I understand. For such a big place it's pretty quiet on gameday. Either way I'm almost sure they'll prepare for what it could be.

Wine and cheese type crowd? Really? This is bulletin board material for us fans!

The stadium could get relatively quiet,  and that led to the "wine and cheese" crowd, or "too many old alumni" accusations.

Some people don't believe it but IMO the structures on the sides have made a world of difference and it is much louder now.  If UConn really thinks it's  going to be relatively quiet, they're in for a surprise.

I wonder what the actual numbers are for the "acoustic disadvantage" we were at before, and then after the remodel. From my persective it's definitely louder now, but that could depend on where you sit.

I guess my only wonder is, if you put the same 59,000 oregon fans in the big house and they went all nuts, how less noisy would they be simply due to acoustic disadvantage between the venues?

I'll be loud as hell on the 4th, i can guarantee that!

Since 2003, by far.  2003 was an exciting team and the fans were bigtime in 03.  The quiet crowd crap really amped up big after the 05 season.... but even in 06 the crowd just wasn't as excited and I always got the feeling alot of it had to do with style of play.... even with a far better team Lloyd just was not going to open it up and let the boys play.

2009, was loud, it was fun!  One thing I noticed as the band had the stadium pa stop playing music and have the band do it, it just wasn't as intense for environment.  The reason, the band just has bad timing for those things, they try to play accurate instead of loud for the whole stadium to hear....

As for Autzen....completely pumped in stadium noise there.  I don't care what anyone says....when you are at the top of that stadium and the noise bears down on you from above, and speakers are above....guess what...it is all pumped.....   accoustics my arse on that place, it's piped in and a whole lot of coaches have said they piped it in....  Also there was a video of autzen where the crowd was yelling going crazy before the snap sounds normal like any other stadium and without anything happening the noise jumped to beyond deafening and stayed that way,  the noise jump was obviously a volume control to the sound system....

is always astronomical for Michigan's home opener. Soon we will see if for the first time in three years that all the hype can be backed up by a credible football team. Until then, stadium size and the who's UConn bs really has no relevancy. Win games and then we can regain swagger.

i get worried about all this "we'll kick their ass" stuff when UConn beat ND last year.  have to take them seriously.  i bet they take Michigan seriously...but RR should have them ready and that's all that matters.

for our apparent lack of volume, an acoustician was consulted by our director and the new boxes raise field noise from the crowd while having the reverse effect on the band.

But luckily for those of you who still like to complain anyway, the Big Ten has recently lifted the electronic amplification ban and the band will have the best microphones money can buy starting on September 4th.

but not about the noise.

I thought the Western Michigan game was unusually loud.

Since Thurston and Lovely can now enjoy their Chardonay and fondue in the box seats, more energetic persons might take their spots in the bleachers.

The noise level has nothing to do with fan enthusiasm but is more due to the architecture of the stadium.  The noise goes straight up while smaller stadiums are louder because of stadium structure and condensed sound.  The Silverdome was one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL for awhile and it held Lions fans....

I've got the 'Big House' in Ann Arbor', and the 'Loud House' in Syracuse...

The SU-Tennessee game in 1998, SU-Michigan in 1999, SU-Auburn in 2001, and some of the Miami and VT games are the loudest I've ever heard any college football stadium. The roof and that it's smushed into the middle of campus definitely helps.

Just because fans of most major college football schools consider Bush Light and Cheetos fine dining...

And hooray UConn's fans are louder on a per capita basis!  When only 40,000 people come to your games that ought to be expected.
