We're getting called out by Huskies

Submitted by trueblue262 on

Just strolling (not trolling) through some UCONN blogs and came across the following

Q: Wondering if it would be wise to have a couple practices down at the Rent with the PA system screaming loud. That way the offense can get used to hearing calls while 100,000+ fans are trying to distract them. - Weyuo, CT

A: I'm sure they'll be prepared for crowd noise but my understanding is they'll be playing in front of more of a, well, wine and cheese crowd from what I understand. For such a big place it's pretty quiet on gameday. Either way I'm almost sure they'll prepare for what it could be.

Wine and cheese type crowd? Really? This is bulletin board material for us fans!

when Brabbs made his first college fg from 44 yds out to win over #9 ESPN/#11 AP Washington with no time left... jesus, that place shook... god, it woulda been 59 yds if Washington didn't have 12 men on (noise related?)...

loudest i've ever heard the place. the anticipation from the student section (he was kicking into the opposite end zone) when it was up and having to hear from the other fans if it was in... god i love it.

of course he missed almost every other kick after that but that moment was epic

The stadium improvements should help, but UM does have a quiet crowd for 100,000+. Most notable exceptions in my memory are Brabb's kick, and Breston's rushing touchdown vs tOSU. My dad told me that Bo was once quoted as saying that Michigan fans were more analytical than other and that's why it is not so loud, but I couldn't find any such quote online. My guess would be that the sheer size of the stadium and the atmosphere alone would be plenty intimidating to an opposing team.

how a UConn fan can talk shit about a stadium/noise. they can hold 40,000. i could understand if they were PSU, even MSU... god forbid even Purdue. but when you can hold 40k...? don't talk about another school's fan level

Ya they are just trying to make themselves feel better about their chances.

Sure, they won at ND last year.

Now add in 30,000+ fans, press boxes, home opener, rededication, and a lack of Domers.

Good luck!

The Big House has been called the "quietest 100,000 in sports.  I hope that all of this talk and the new renovations will help change that.  I hate having that tied to us like its the easiest place to play in the world.  September 4th couldn't possibly take any longer to get here.  GO BLUEE

Last years opener was fuckin deafing..  Although some of the other games i went to throughout the year, I noticed i was the only one standing at times in my section..  Namely the Penn State game.  Based on the weather, everyone around me just sat there and acted miserable.  I told people to leave if they aren't even gonna be loud for the team.

Let them feel good about coming to Michigan. Because they are going to get crushed by us. I'm pretty sure we are on the way back and UCONN is our first step, my ass will be yelling like crazy and standing the whole game. They have no clue what's about to hit them. 100,000 + Wine & cheese fans are pissed off and have heard for 2 years from every idiot out there how poor Michigan fell. Well boys & girls it's time to start shutting people up!

"my ass will be yelling like crazy"

No wonder it is so quiet in there.  If you and the rest of the fans would use your mouths to yell instead of your asses, it would probably be a lot louder.

Seriously, though, the renovations should help, as will the enthusiasm of the crowd.  I think UConn should be more worried about the 400 yards rushing that we will hang on them more than the crowd noise.

Has anyone noticed how denards play has matured into a surprisingly bold fall medley hinting of oak? Perhaps similar to a Napa '62 that similarly runs surprisingly well but, given the chance to air out, will delight anyone lucky to partake?

The term 'sleeping giant' comes to mind. Michigan stadium will absolutely shake with a fury when Brock Mealer makes his way out of the tunnel. UConn fans have nothing invested in this game. Michigan has something to prove, doubters to silence and a coach worth keeping to play for. This is a pot that doesn't need stirring.

I am so excited for Brock to lead the 2010 Michigan team through that tunnel and onto the field!  This moment will mean much more than football!

Between this, the stadium re-dedication, and the revenge for the last couple years...the team and the 110,000 fans should be rocking all season with no excuse!
