Now I'm going to have to watch.

How he didn't say a thing about kicking or elbowing. Urban's slick like that.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
is that he set a standard and a consequence for not meeting that standard.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
Or shanks.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:51 PM ^
what about kicking our ass?

Backdoor way to get his kids riled up.
Urban knows OSU can't achieve much in a Big Ten dominated by bad coaching. He aims to fix this.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:00 PM ^
It's that he's an incredibly strict disciplinarian and we should always take his word.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:05 PM ^
a private consultant to find some loopholes in the policy.
EDIT: All kidding aside, I have no doubt that he means it and this is a direct response to the incident from last year. Given the makeup of college football nowadays, and the potential for this game to get a little heated, I highly doubt he would go back on this promise if someone did throw a punch.
November 25th, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
I think St. Urban was on the TV panel for that game, and he was disgusted by what Tom Gholson did. IIRC he said he should be thrown out of the game and suspended.
Yeah, barf, whatever. Wonder if Hall hadn't been suspended by the B1G if Urbz would have bothered issuing this missive.
November 25th, 2014 at 2:56 PM ^
That was Spielman.
November 25th, 2014 at 8:31 PM ^
Thought Spielman was the next year. Well whatever, some damned Buckeye.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:06 PM ^
I wish our team was so fired up and intensely focused on beating OSU that Hoke had to issue such an edict to Michigan to not punch somebody.
All Hoke has to do remind them to not bring their camping gear onto the field and we're ok.

There's been a fight started in the Ohio State game by a Michigan player each year Hoke's been here.
November 25th, 2014 at 1:07 PM ^
What do you mean "by" a Michigan player? I'm fairly sure that any fight big enough to be seen on the broadcast has two sides to it.

we need to go full blown 'Replacements' on their ass... it ain't like we are winning the game anyway...

You are such a downer, coach....
November 25th, 2014 at 1:02 PM ^
This picture and the Funchess leap would be my laptop background forever had we actually won that game, but alas, we lost (again) and looking at them just remind me of that, so I hate seeing them now.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
"Okay, guys...we win and no one throws a punch....free pizza party for everyone. If we lose or someone throws a punch, I eat alone again."
November 25th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
Sigh...being a Michigan football fan is so stupid right now...

happens to be in the Circle of Trust.

Man...I hate the feeling going into this one...just feels like doomsday going into Hell (CBus). I've never felt this way leading up to The Game. There is just so much momentum pushing the two programs in opposite directions...please let this be the bottom.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
LDNfan: don't worry. The nightmare will soon be over. After seven years of backstabbing, incopmpetent administration, and shoddy on-field results, those who have any influence in the program can see that they need to hire a real coach and give that coach full support.
RR is a great coach who got no support. Hoke is a mediocre coach who got full support. This time, a great coach is going to get full support. By Christmas, we will all be in the full optimist mode.

I hear you...I hope/expect that the lessons have finally been learned by the right people....and this thing finally gets turned in the right direction.

I'd like to start a Urban Meyer back to Florida rumor. Has this been started yet?
November 25th, 2014 at 12:20 PM ^
it has now.

November 25th, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
Think that he would leave OSU for them.
November 25th, 2014 at 1:42 PM ^
Hot rumor.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:20 PM ^
Do dong punches fall under this policy? Or is that something that's seen as a collective effort? Just needing some clarity here.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:20 PM ^
my naive and endless hope sees the possibility for a competitive game...maybe even an anomaly (Victory!!!).
November 25th, 2014 at 12:22 PM ^
Who cares
November 25th, 2014 at 12:22 PM ^
November 25th, 2014 at 12:31 PM ^
At least that'd be a cooler way for him to be fired
November 25th, 2014 at 12:37 PM ^
we all know how they use coolers in Columbus.

For a second I was thinking "Damn, I guess Urbz really is a quality coach of integrity by asking his players to show good sportsmanship" then I read his comments and realized the only reason that no-chinned cork snorkler took the position was to help maximize his team's chances to win the Big Ten Championship game by avoiding suspensions... So it had nothing to do with integrity or his conscience and everything to do about winning... Douche.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:34 PM ^
Honestly, a fight might be more exciting than the actual game. This is why last year's game was actually such a great time to watch(not to mention it was randomly like 70 degrees that day).

Am I the only one who thinks throwing a single punch really isn't that big of a deal during a football game? I'm not talking about hitting someone on the ground or starting a brawl, but I thought it was ridiculous that Gholston was suspended for punching Lewan in the helmet and got nothing for twisting Denard's helmet while he was on the ground, for one crazy example.
I get that it's unsportsmanlike and should obviously get flagged, but dismissing someone from a team for hitting a guy wearing a helmet seems crazy to me.
November 25th, 2014 at 12:38 PM ^
I know because he's a father.
November 25th, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
Getting thrown off the team is a big gauntlet to throw publicly, especially in this game. I don't have encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the game, but I would imagine you'd be hard pressed to find one game where a punch wasn't thrown, a player didn't get shoved away from the play, etc...It might not be very competitive as of late, but it's always been contentious and will continue to be.
November 25th, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
I'd let JT Barrett take a shot at me early in the game if I was on the field, just to see what happened.
November 25th, 2014 at 3:20 PM ^
I would LOVE to see what Urbz would do if JT Barrett threw a punch. That circle of trust would be really tested.
