The Blog. The Blog. The Blog.
to play football, not to play trumpet
The Blog. The Blog. The Blog.
the donations will slow considerably. I think it needs to get to between 75-80% in the next few days to be a comfortable amount.
Agreed. The key is for us to tell our friends and family. I have a lot of M buddies and relatives who I know don't read MGoBlog but would love to pre-order HTTV or have purchased it in past years. I sent an email out to about 8 people who I know all will click the link and pay at least the 15 bucks. If everyone does that we'll be there in no time.
I wouldn't worry about that.
Haha, moves quick, huh?
We'll be at 20k before close of business tomorrow. I bet we're at 17+ before I go to bed tonight.
are more people reading the blog than only the users that have an account and comment. It could be at $20,000 in less than 24 hours of it's inception. That's seriously impressive.
I can only hope that 10k of that is from a single donor and Brian has to keep his promise of the birthday party appearance.
Hoping he'll be available for my hedgehog's first birthday this June!
Not to take any credit away from us as a group, but I'd say we "spent" 12 grand, not raised it. This isn't for a cancer fund, this is to buy Michigan stuff. Now, it does show the quality of HTTV as well as the intensity of our fandom that there are 330+ people who have already pre-ordered the book on the first day they heard about it.
Most of the credit goes to Brian and crew for putting out a good product.
I like to support anyone who goes it alone. Have my own business and sunk a lot of money of my own into it so it's nice to be able to help someone out who is going through the same thing.
I just did it for the shirt. Oh and to get the magazine, but mostly for the shirt.
This shirt is tremendous!
Wait, there's a magazine involved too?
I underestimate how big Mgoblog is
It's surprising how often I see people on MGoBlog during classes. Probably around 40% of the guys in my classes on computers open up MGoBlog at some point (at least in the more relaxed classes, in more intense ones not so much). It really does have a pretty big readership (with the majority being lurkers, who do not have accounts). Does anyone know the stats on the number of hits MGoBlog gets regularly?
According to Compete, mgoblog receives 50,300 monthly unique visitors. This means that there are 50,300 people who go to mgoblog at least once in a month.
Obviously some visit more than others.
If all of those poeple pre-ordered the book, and no non-MGoBlogger did, that would still be over $750k! No wonder we're getting to 20k so fast.
How much time you spend on here....
30000+ MGoPoints? M-Wolverine probably goes to MGoBlog occasionally.
I pledged, and to me, for the experience I get here, it is worth every penny.
How good is it? I'll put it this way - my 69 year old father, an Indiana alum and MGoBlog lurker, has opted to pledge $100.
Damn, your dad's rich.
Hey, I am an IU Alum and Mgoblog lurker
please tell me I am not your dad
Okay, what's going on... Can someone fill me in please?
Read the front page.
Either go to the front page or click the Hail to the Victors kickstarter in the upper right hand corner.
Front page, underneath the depressing B-Ball news, "Kickstarting Hail To The Victors" or something like that
Oh yes. It will be mine.
you posted this about 40 mins ago and we were at "almost" 12,000 and now it's over 14,000. Like....DAMN
And now we're done (and still climbing)
One of these should be created to bring back the old point system. Have enough money for that in5-10 minutes.
Best $100 I've spent all week. Don't know what I'd do in August without my HTTV to get me through fall camp and the last few days until the first game.
It feels good, regardless. Can't wait to see the final product (having full faith the $20Racks will be raised).
I wouldn't exactly declare it on my taxes...
Probably not! (Was a joke for those out there in the IRS ranks...)
Those who donate will be champions.
LOL @ 11W's fundraising.
In their defense they're not offering magazines in exchange for their donations. But in defense of someone who doesn't agree with that defense if everyone is willing to pay $15 for the magazine and everything on top of that is fluff (minus the t-shirt I guess as well), he's gotten about $6,000-$8,000 in "donations" in just one day. That;s about 1/2-2/3 of what they've gotten in 2 months. Not too shabby.
Of course I would spend a little extra to get the autographed version, BUT THEN I REALIZE IT NEEDS TO BE PRESERVED FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS. So then you pop another 15 down to get an issue you can look through. Genious.
I can't wait to include a photobomb picture of Brian as a receipt to my accountant come tax time. Boom! Business expense.
Interestingly, on the 2009 edition Brandon Minor is running with a football with the Michigan logo on it. I thought the away team brought the game balls?
Each team uses their own ball.
I believe each team uses their own balls when on offense.
Wait, that sounds dirty.
I knew that. I was just uh.. testing to see if you guys knew that.
Brian is sitting, shaking his head, "Should've asked for $30k."
I left for work today when it was at 7% around 3 p.m. today and I figured I would check back to see how far we got after I was done work and was expecting to be at 20% or 30%. Yeah, it's at 88% right now. Simply tremendous guys. I'm astounded.
I wish there was a liveblog for this.
Thanks for the reminder, no joke. Almost up to 18K...
Is there a special prize for being the person to put it over $20k? I am too lazy to get up and get my wallet right now, so I'll probably pay in the morning.
Also, for everyone who is buying it for the shirt: you're welcome.
But I like the work Brian does on this site, and appreciate what he's created here. He generally seems like a good dude, if a bit mopey. ;-)
So I hope if we all are amazed, he's sitting back and watching this and getting a sense of accomplishment and feeling good about it. When you put this stuff out there, it's hard to say if they're just looking or info, reading, or just hating everything. This should make him feel appreciated.
Just don't let it go to your head.
Broke $18k, decisively, just now.
I can't wait to wear this in public just for the looks. Too bad nobody will understand it here in Colorado!
Don't just pledge $100. Pledge $133.
Wonder if Brian's put any thought into what he might do if the total goes above and beyond (which, at this pace, it will do in, what, 15 minutes?)
There was a webcomic author that asked for $57,750 for reprinting old books of his comics. He got 1.2 million dollars.
Is totally worth it. It provides much more than the pay sites, and it manages to anger my girlfriend. HTTV will be prominently displayed on my coffee table.
You're dating the wrong girl. Some of us understand and share your obsession with Michigan sports and spend unhealthy amounts of time on this blog, too.
<1000 to go.
Lets see if we can do it in one day
This is awesome. I hope this leads to the formation of some sort of charity donation, maybe some sort of team up for Mott's.
$500 to go ... I want MUPPETS!!!
I left lurker status, gained an MGoUsername, made my first post on this beautiful blog, and bought the 2011 edition (the alternately named one) of HTTV all on the same day. Proud to be a supporter in 2012, and hopefully beyond.
Now..... how can I time it so I can put 'er over $20,000.....
LONG LIVE HTTV!
HOW... MUCH... CASH... IS... LEFT?
One grand left in the donation period.
Edit: This post is clearly irrelevant now. Instead I give you celebratory dancing.
Well that only took 8 hours to scrape together...
$500 to go!
Someone please hit it home with 10k
100 bucks left
The one above is a little slow, we are at 98% right now.
I'm in for a rocking t-shirt.
And yes, photobomb Brian was one hillarious thread. Thanks for the hillarity, sambojangles!
About to tip! $19,903!
It's over the top!
With the refresh again anand again.
We Got IT!
7 hours nad 51 minutes
I witnessed history in the making. I saw it jump from 19,903 to 20,903.
And that's 20,000 dollars.
I was hoping to be the person that put it over the top, but I was about 1 min early.
Wow. That didn't take long at all.
Made it in just under the wire, although it appears to still be going. Was worried it might stop at $20K. Good work everybody.
BOOM. Nice work folks.
LONG LIVE HTTV
And Kate Upton dancing!
133% funded plz
Time for another Posbang!!!!
So if I set up a Kickstarter to buy a new car you guys will chip in just to relive this feeling, right?
been in a rehearsal since this afternoon when I saw the frontpage post about this.
now that I'm home, the goal is already reached.
good job, team!
I'm still pushing the MGoBar kickstarter...real life muppets...
Publish blog previews and anything else that comes their way.
This is a perfect opportunity ladies/ gentlemen.
Only a select few people here in st. louis will appreciate a shirt that looks like a middle age man who just realized he's about to be raped in prison on the front, but shit it's worth it! And the joy of someone recognizing it will be outstanding.
Nice work Wolverines.
...on my phone and I planned to donate to bump it over the top. By the time I got to a computer and logged in it was already hundreds of dollars over the goal. Now, the only thing I want to see is someone go in on the birthday party promise. Anyone want to go in on it together?
Let's remember, 20,000 is only 2/3 of the production costs. If people keep giving we can cover all of it- let's hope we keep going past $21K (as of now)!
Hey Brian, next time give us a harder challenge. This was child's play.
Apparently everyone reading this blog is rich. Or half the people who read this blog today gave $1
The average donation is $38, so take what you want from it, but I think it's fairly reasonable (considering you're getting at least a 15 dollar magazine with your donation).
I want the magazine to be in 3D this year.
Is it legal to funnel the excess into a Trey Burke Fund?
Maurice Clarett says no FWIW
...Sure! Why not? I came back!
(*kidding, of course! But just to be sure, do not do this. It is against the rules. While this may be ok at OSU, we would never mention it or accuse them of such shenanigans, even in a joking or oblique manner!*)
I think you sold short your influence Brian. I'll bet you hit $40k by the end of the weekend. Thanks for putting out the best content day in and day out and thanks to everyone else who donated for supporting 'the family'. Go blue!
One day of bad news (some of which is, some of which is verrrry speculatory and probable to not happen) and everyone's ready to give away money!
I know, I know, it's nothing like that at all. Congratulations though, everyone, way to chip in and help out. I know I personally didn't give away a fortune by any means but a few extra bucks I could spare. Can't wait till June (and even a month from now to see how much support is actually given!).
Congrats to Brian and the rest of the MGoBlog community for eclipsing the requested amount in one day. It's scary how quickly this community was able to generate over $22k in funds. With the leftover funds, Brian can probably but out Rosenberg's press seat for Ace and banish that jerk back to Drew Sharpland!
Great to see this get done so quickly. I'm glad to have been able to help.
Funding muppets anyone?
Good lord. Got back from Dominick's just a little while ago and saw the total was already over the goal. I'm, um, speechless, which doesn't happen often. Thanks, everyone.
(Yes, I've had a little sangria. But I'm pretty sure I'd still find this amazing if I was 100% sober.)
(Also, if anyone wants to start a "give Ace an awesome bonus" Kickstarter, I won't stop you.)
Send me some Constant Buzz and we'll talk.
I will if you send me a meatball sub and a quart of Oberon in one of those glass jugs.
I loved being a drunk degenerate @ Dominicks...good times, good times.
sangria on the upper deck....spring....happy place....
wait a minute, I am here and you are there...bastard!
You don't want to know what you'd have to do for your bonus...
I'm willing to eat a lemon.
and we'll talk.
Edit: that was supposed to be funny, but I posted it and then thought, aw, man, that's mean. So now I will post this disclaimer to make it neither funny nor mean: it was supposed to be a joke. You do great work, too.
TomVH is legend, but Ace does damn fine work, and we're thrilled to have him.
Brian better take that shit down before it goes over 30k and people start asking for raises.
Looks like you are a post too late haha
how many of us wish we'd emailed offering a substantial part of the extra 10k needed once he got to 20 in exchange for a small stake in any profits?
I'd buy stock in Mgoblog, simply to support the contined effort. Any residual profits would be a bonus.
Great MgoBlog community!
Just hit 600 backers!
I used to think "giving 110%" was a stupid and impossible thing. Now I know that people who talked about giving 110% were just being lazy.
(Also, the posbang thread has been fixed. You may resume your banging here, or there. Or shit, both. When in Rome...)
Now I'm just glad that I was among the first 200 backers.
Amazing work everyone!
Every page can be glossy (if it already isn't).
I just can't get over how awesome that MGOBLOG Brian Photobomb shirt is going to be. So awesome.
Optimus Prime himself would be powerless to stop MGoBoard's hunger for HTTV.
Maize and Blue Deathstar.
You guys do great work. Can't wait to see the magazine.
Crazy good response. Time to start thinking bigger.
its over 9000
and we were North of $23k...that is insane. Well done MGoBlog community!
I'd donate another $50 for a t-shirt where Brian is on the front in his Pryor jersey.
Lets try and get it past 30K soon. Brian did say 20K is only about 2/3 of the total expenses, so they would probably still be losing money at 20K.
Over 25k. Wow.
About to hit $25k. Wow. When I logged in earlier today it was at $6k or something. Now I look again and this. And this is just from the people that have logged on today and read what was going on. Nice job, everyone.
You guys are awesome.
pledged of $20,000 goal
Does this mean we can hire TomVH back from ESPN?
I did it for the t-shirt. That thing is tremendous.
but i had to kick in my $50 now in case he's able to put limits on stuff and make the t-shirt sold out. put us at $25,461.
I be like, dang.
Ditto. I had to get in on that while I could.
pretty awesome response from the community
For all those who pitched in, thank you. It's awesome what Mgoblog stands for in the sports coverage landscape.
meanwhile, nytimes.com can stop trying to get 99 cents out of me for 8 weeks of access and go fuck itself while i google the article titles to read them for free because i sure as hell don't pay money to read stuff on the internet.
Anybody else think Brian should take the first $500 over $30,000 and to stage an MGoBlog site takeover of elevenwarriors.com? It'd be a good way to add even more schadenfreude to 11W's inability to raise funds.
This is genius
to Ohio fans... I'm pretty sure that you go to hell for that.
Yea, verily I say unto thee: consort not with the baseborn thrall whence cometh from Ohio, nor supporteth their propoganda, lest ye be judged and condemned with fire and thine household be putteth to the torch and pitchfork.
First Schembechler, chapter 1, verse 1
brian is humbled at the moment. There has to be at least a tear of pride being shed as i type! Go Blue!
1st post: I have been reading this site for over a year now and when Brian posted about his need for money for the magazine I thought, "In a week, I can help him out." Now I know why I am a Wolverine, because we are The Leaders and The Best. Hail to the Champions of the West!
First donation after roughly a year of MGoBlog info. Feels good to support the magazine and the site. Guilt be gone...
Congrats, Brian, et. al.!
I'm not going to be able to pitch in until this weekend. Will it still be accepted? Not really sure how this kickstart thing works.
so you'll be fine. I'm not sure when the amount you pledge is actually taken from your credit card though. It'll either be immediately, since the goal of $20,000 was met, or it'll be at the end of the 29 days. It tells you when you go through the process, I just don't remember.
Okay sweet thanks for the help. I've heard of kickstart but have never actually used it, so was just curious how it worked.
Note that your card won't be charged immediately, so if you're waiting for a payment to clear, you don't have to worry about it.
Wow, came in this morning and it's at $28,093. Way to go!
Got to work this morning and had no idea what was going on last night. You all did a tremendous job getting this started.
I just went over and made my contribution -- we're now closing in on $30K which would fund the entire project. That's just awesome.
I can't wait for my signed copy.
$30,000 mark about to fall.
And I, along with one other person that donated at the same time, was the one lucky enough to see the roll-over. YAY.
Congrats to Brian and the rest of the awesome MGOBlog team - if you ever doubted how highly your work is appreciated, this past day should erase those doubts.
This year's HTTV to come printed on heavy card stock with special holofoil embossing.
With Kate Upton pop-up? (schwing?)
We're at $29,999 with 785 backers. One more dollar!
I like to think that my donation was the most important of the 30k. Ha! but hell 30k in less than 24 hours...take that any natural disaster relief program and you too red cross.
Brian stated the $20,000 goal was to help fund 2/3 of the project. In less than 24 hours the mgoblog community has now funded 100% of the projected costs ($30,394 at time of posting). Very impressive
PS: Yay basic math analysis!
HTTV is in and of itself a worthy cause...however, now that that number has been blown out of the water, maybe think about kicking in a little something to the general fund...
This event deserves its own Blockhams strip...
We are always watching. Keep up the great work!
