Tony award winner David Grier. I got a Tony and Michigan beat Ohio state
December 14th, 2021 at 12:12 AM ^
Did not know he was an alum or a stage actor for that matter. But, his instagram post was every Michigan alum at that moment. Thanks for sharing.

Poor buckeyes getting it from every angle everywhere they look. They should be thankful the Michigan chapter on the moon didn't bring up a huge "Fuck Ohio" sign for them to stare at for all of eternity
December 14th, 2021 at 1:39 AM ^
How do you know they didn't?
December 14th, 2021 at 8:50 AM ^
It's not too late.
Let's fund a rocket.
December 14th, 2021 at 8:27 AM ^
Even better!
December 14th, 2021 at 12:35 AM ^
Congratulations DAG! Everytime I hear about the Tony’s I think about Triumph the Insult Comic Dog ….”Nicholson, Pitt, Jolie these are just a few of the names that won’t be anywhere near this place. It’s a cavalcade of nobodies!”
December 14th, 2021 at 12:40 AM ^
From the way way back machine. Always cracked me up.
December 14th, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
One of the funniest movies ever made.
"That's not a baby! It's a Mr. Potato Head!"
December 14th, 2021 at 12:56 AM ^
Oh, the joy this team has brought to us all. We really can have nice things!!
Watching the game again on DVR. Picking up where I left off last night, 9:14 in the 4th Q after good guys just went up 35-20.
Feeling pretty good about our chances.
December 14th, 2021 at 1:07 AM ^
That was rich, thanks for sharing!
December 14th, 2021 at 1:31 AM ^
That made my night
December 14th, 2021 at 1:49 AM ^
That was good! Thanks for posting
December 14th, 2021 at 3:09 AM ^
This is so great. I have been actively searching for podcasts that came out the week after The Game to relive that beautiful moment in time. Let's not lose that feeling.
December 14th, 2021 at 9:43 AM ^
I live in Ohio and someone likened Michigan fans to cicadas-- we pop out every few years and buzz around. I told him no, cicadas are gone in two weeks, I'm going to annoy you for a full year. Can't steal MY joy!

Fun Fact: DAG's In Living Color character "Calhoun Tubbs" was inspired by Ann Arbor stalwart Shakey Jake (RIP).
December 14th, 2021 at 7:28 AM ^
I forgot Calhoun Tubbs was that funny. Thanks for reminding me.
December 14th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
Shakey Jake was an institution.
December 14th, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
I gave Shakey a lift once when he was hitchhiking on North Main heading to downtown. I didn't have to take him very far, but it was an interesting few minutes.

I'm going to have to go back and watch ILC.
Back before Angelo's remodeled, I was a weekday breakfast counter regular and so was Jake -- I'd find him sitting on the far end of the counter just drinking coffee, closest seat to the kitchen "open window," near Angelo himself. Jake didn't hold court there like he did around campus, just getting the day off to a good start, mostly minding his business in his outrageous outfits. At that time, I was funding my college (maybe early law school?) with student loans and work, but I figured I was still better off than Jake and so I'd occasionally buy his morning starter.
When Jake was holding court around campus, I loved to "brake for Jake" and chat him up between his (not very good but inspired) takes on old blues classics. I have an old cassette of his stuff somewhere in the basement. Not sure I ever listened to it, and certainly don't have a cassette player any more, but it brings back memories. If I find it I'll post a pic.
One night Jake pulled me aside in front of the Kelsey Building (not a very well lit spot on State) and tried to interest me in a slightly used TV. His sales pitch was very entertaining, but no buyer was I.
Miss you Jake!

Well, just you wait for the speeches at THE Truck Driver’s Awards next time the Nutz win.
December 14th, 2021 at 7:24 AM ^
Having driven a truck in a couple of my jobs, I was tempted to down vote your comment.
However, your "THE" deserves praises, so thumbs up!
December 14th, 2021 at 9:24 AM ^
Weird time in history to be shitting on truck drivers, but you do you.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:41 AM ^
Was it more appropriate at another time in history?
December 14th, 2021 at 1:24 PM ^
Yeah, last Tuesday was a good time. But we can all agree that last Tuesday is gone. Long love todays Tuesday.
December 14th, 2021 at 3:06 PM ^
When the sequels to Smokey and the Bandit came out?
December 14th, 2021 at 7:31 AM ^
Worlds colliding! I love Michigan & its sports and I love theater.
Go, Blue! Go, Broadway!
And Go, Grier!
December 14th, 2021 at 7:42 AM ^
A bit too dramatic for my taste
December 14th, 2021 at 8:53 AM ^
Well it was a really big win.
December 14th, 2021 at 12:27 PM ^
Clearly the sarcasm was missed here…
Actor, drama
December 14th, 2021 at 7:51 AM ^
Just an uplifting cup of energy and joy.
December 14th, 2021 at 7:54 AM ^
The gift that keeps on giving. On a national stage. Go Blue!
December 14th, 2021 at 8:56 AM ^
EVERYBODY on the national stage seems to want to comment on it, no matter how tangential it is to what they do.
Somewhere there is a Tibetan monk who just broke his vow of silence behind closed doors, whistling The Victors.
December 14th, 2021 at 7:55 AM ^
I'll have what he was having. I need that much happiness in my life.
Go Blue!!!!
December 14th, 2021 at 9:42 AM ^
Dude, he just won a TONY and Michigan beat their Arch Rival. Wouldn't you be happy too?
December 14th, 2021 at 8:33 AM ^
Watched -- was not disappointed. Thanks!
December 14th, 2021 at 8:49 AM ^
That was me too! Without the Tony.
December 14th, 2021 at 8:56 AM ^
DAG’s Teddy Pendergrass impression on Adam Corolla’s show is still the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a podcast.
December 14th, 2021 at 8:57 AM ^
I give it ...
December 14th, 2021 at 5:08 PM ^
Surely someone will recall "back in the day" when ILC was in it's heyday in 1992, they had a Superbowl XXVI halftime special. So you had to switch the channel and tune into it, for a live TV show during halftime. Blaine and Antoine did "Men on Football". Hilarity and hijinks ensued.
December 14th, 2021 at 9:16 AM ^
David Alan Grier is all of us.
(minus the Tony)
December 14th, 2021 at 9:18 AM ^
I love it. Very funny guy.
December 14th, 2021 at 9:22 AM ^
I saw this on Colbert and thought it was great - thanks for posting. DAG is a sneaky comedy legend (In Living Color's legacy is often overlooked!).
December 14th, 2021 at 9:28 AM ^
Nice article from "Michigan Muse" (umich.edu) from 2010 or so:

I’ll never forget his SNL sketches playing Maya Angelou as a spokesperson for Fruit Loops and I want to say Pennzoil.
December 14th, 2021 at 11:52 AM ^
I am experiencing serious sweater envy.

Obligatory:

I had David Alan Grier's dorm room roughly 30 years after he did. Pretty sure that room no longer exists after the renovations ~15 years ago.
December 14th, 2021 at 12:13 PM ^
I'm going to need you to include the "Alan" here. It's just not right any other way.
Congrats to David Alan Grier!!
December 14th, 2021 at 1:00 PM ^
My thought exactly!
Love it, David Al Angrier!
December 14th, 2021 at 3:05 PM ^
Me too, I was like, 'who the fuck is David Grier? Is he talking about David Alan Grier?'
