I work in Champaign-Urbana and can confirm that the attitude of University of Illinois alumns, students, fans and university staff is definitely different from that of their Michigan equivalents. The Chancellor (who has an advanced degree from Michigan btw*) mentioned this in public a few weeks ago. Despite the many academic strengths of the institution, Illini are reluctant to talk up their university. As for sports... fans here remind me of one of my cats when he walks around my feet; he remembers being stepped on and is always afraid he'll get stepped on again.

My wife lived above it while she was in grad school at RISD. Get some Johnny Cakes and you might change your mind.

I'm glad to see the administration quickly walk this one back.

But maybe it is "endow officials with vision" rather than "change play."

on the Illinois campus in Urbana and/or Champaign. But they wouldn't dare ask the kids to trade in their Bulls or Blackhawks shirts.

Striping is superfluous on the home uniforms. I think that is the case with the aways as well. Unless you're talking about the bitchin' 70s all whites.

All white. If we're going Full Bo with helmet stickers we should have plain white away jerseys with blue numbers.

I work in Champaign in the advancement/ development side of the U of Illinois. From the alumni figures I've seen, UI STEM grads are clustered in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs with a sizeable number in the SF Bay Area. The Physics Dept. is very strong here, I know a couple of MIT grads getting their doctorates here. Also the agriculture school is as good as you might imagine a school with an experimental cornfield on campus would be. The architecture, design and fine arts schools are surprisingly excellent. But more than one academic I have met here describes Michigan as their "aspirational peer." Which warms this cotton pickin' maize and blue heart.

Parsing the numbers in a document unknown to any of us is a waste of time worthy only for Ferengi. If Jim Harbaugh desires to secure his family's financial position, obtain personal glory and expand the power and prestige of the Empire he can do so by agreeing to the contract that has been presented to him.

I'd like to underline what the Yard Dog said. In my time as an undergraduate we knew that even if Michigan lost, the opponent would would stagger away knowing they had been in a game.
I came to Ann Arbor from a suburb of Syracuse, NY as a fan from watching M on tv. Before long I was immersed in many of the "bonus features" of the program like Ufer, tailgaiting, etc. we could even bring in jugs of spiked cider to the games.
Rick Leach was quarterback my freshman year and John Wangler my senior year. I was privileged to watch a certain home game against Indiana while listening to the call on the radio.

the waverers and doubters prior to the Liberation of Khitomer. Even those of us who implicitly trusted the Praetor found ourselves quaffing that pale blue ale. But it all turned out well and, as I recall, some great misdirection helped to make it so.

This entire process is a great example of "Sources Journalism" at work. Media actors feel a greater obligation to pass along rumors from their contacts than they do to present their readers with accurate information

What is all this about a search committee? If there was such a thing wouldn't Hackett have mentioned it at his press conference?
