Tons of talent and experience returning in 2018

Submitted by Duval Wolverine on

Michigan will go from one of the youngest teams in the country to one of the most experienced teams in CF by next year.  The returning contributors:

Offense                                                             Defense

D. Peoples-Jones                                             T. Kinnel

J. Bushell-Beatty                                              J. Metellus

C. Ruiz                                                             R. Gary

B. Peters                                                          A. Solomon

T. Black                                                            D. Bush

G. Perry                                                           K. Hudson

S. McKeon                                                       D. Long

Z. Gentry                                                          L. Hill

C. Evans                                                          N. Furbush

M. Onwenu                                                      B. Mone

B. Bredeson                                                    B. Watson

K. Walker                                                        A. Thomas

I. Bunting

T. Wheatley

E. McDoom

K. Crawford

The experience and struggles these players endured this year will help them next year.  Plus year three for this D. Brown defense that will have everyone back minus McCray and Hurst has a chance to be light years better than what we saw this year.  I think Peters has a chance to be a great quarterback, and will get better with experience and timing with all the receivers coming back next year.

and understand that this team is lacking the ingredients to win this type of game and that Wisconsin is a better team than Okie State. KSU would not have won in Madison yesterday. I am pretty certain about that. Okie State is a four loss freak that does not play defense. A defensively deficient team is more susceptible to being upset at home than one that does play defense. Again, you cannot compare a more experienced team with a terribly inexperienced team at all. Your analogy is too flawed to work here.

I think they are a bit closer but I get your point. My point still stands that no one thought they had a chance and they won. More people thought UM had a chance of winning. I just think UM should always have a chance and some people around here just write them off immediately for (insert various excuses). That is more of the point I was trying to make. I understand all of your points as well and I agree with some of them.

The  word excuse is over used sometimes it is what it is, a lot of things have happened that has lead to the feelings be expressed here but in todays world its labeled excuses for lack of a better word but Oneil drops a snap people say stop with excuses you are on QB #3 stop with the excuses hows FSU's season going,? They were picked to play for the champonship but lost their QB on a veteran team huh

I remember over the past couple years when we’d win or something would go good for us, people would say it was because, “we’ll, Harbaugh”. Now....when we lose it is because of “we’ll, Harbaugh “. Where did his fire go? He is being beaten constantly, not just on the field, by other coaches and programs that he shouldn’t be. When is Jim Harbaugh goin to be the reason we win a game by out coaching the opponent? I want him to succeed as much as anyone but he’s gotta start owning his own team.

Did you suffer some sort of medical emergency while writing this because it makes little sense. You are accusing him of something he has never done. He has not made excuses. He has not failed to own his team. You made both of these up out of whole cloth. At one point will you stop making shit up ?

Was play calling an issue yesterday? I felt pretty good about the way we played most of the game yesterday we missed on some plays like the long pass to Crawford the DPJ 's TD the fumble and while yes Wisconson plays in the West they are still a good solid top 5 team and a tough place to play let's give some credit to them is Urban overrated because of the Clemson game or this years Iowa game is Saban because he failed bid time in the NFL ? Sometimes it  isn't just that simple that its coaching players play and again theses are kids and blow coverage and leave their gap assignments. And Bartmen didn't cause the Cubs to lose the Cubs caused the Cubs to lose so let's pump the brakes M fans, We will be fine

My guess is not all names listed will be back next year, in fact I'm pretty sure.  Coach is a loyal guy but at the end of the day he has proved to the fanbase and recruits the best players will play regardless of age or class.

I can tell you that DB is jacked up to have these 3 young linebackers next year, and although we will miss Hurst, A. Solomon showed us a little bit yesterday why he is going to be all Big Ten at a min.  I think Chase comes back, and I do not think he waits long to tell us all.  Defense will be special again next year, and I would expect the offense to be stronger as well.  Looking back on the season, early on when the team was struggling with lesser opponets and to score points we all just brushed it off as they were figuring things out, and dumbing down the playbook based on opponents.  I know we dealt with injuries, but the truth is our offense just is not very good, definately not fluid.  I expect a few things to change in offseason on this front as well.

Also I still think we are going to sign a few GT's or 5 year guys this offseason unlike last year. OL, DB, S, and QB are all on the radar.

Go Blue beat OSU!

How about doing your own research to prove your whinniness is valid?  Nothing but bitching from you...  Just another flower that can find another team if this one isn't good enough for you.

Fuck off. If someone takes the time to cite “facts” from memory, bring more to the table. There’s no “whiny” narrative here. If you think the highest paid coach is not able to recruit appropriately, and has to continue to search for 1 year solutions, then I don’t know what to tell you. Keep hoping “next year” will finally be the one.

Quit being a hostile, whiny bitch. Alabama had to snag Gehrig Dieter, a grad transfer WR from Bowling Green last year for their WR3 spot. Jarrett Stidham (grad transfer) is Auburn's starting QB this year who is currently leading a team that controls it's own destiny for a playoff run. This shit happens. Dee Delaney grad transferred from The Citadel to Miami (a top 4 team) to lock down one of their CB spots. He's currently injured but should be back for the ACC conference championship game.

Bama had 2 in 2017 with Baker & Buggs and OSU had 2 with Sheffield & Pridgeon the last 2 years. Bama had 1 JUCO and a WR 5th yr transfer in 2016. Those programs have the top recruiting machines over the last 5+ years and still need to pull in upperclassmen talent.

You must have missed the part about OU, OkSt and Georgia you insufferable jackass. Am I supposed to honestly believe that in order to prove your point that is clearly bullshit you are going to feign the inability to read? That makes you look even more ignorant. Go play toys in the sandbox , lil guy. Let the grown-ups talk for a while.

I hope peters is able to play this weekend. Probably unlikely though. I just wish for once we'd put together a plan that will work against osu's superior d-line. This sounds like captain obvious, get a decent lead and make Barrett into a passer; stuff the run. We got a chance.

Yeah! Looking forward to the same dudes who got Speight and Peters injured returning for more of the same! Maybe they can end McCaffrey’s career. Goals!

Our passing coordinator last year and now our passing game sucks. Get rid of Pep, he didn't get it done this year. Speight regressed, Okorn was awful and Peters did ok. Can we also get an actual recievers coach?

Right.  The position coach is the only thing that changed.  You know, aside from losing two senior WRs, the Mackey Award winning TE, 4 senior OL (and the 5th guy changing positions), and a 5th yr senior RB.  But yeah, those guys didn't make any difference at all...

Fucking idiot.

And what did those OL do for the squad last year in the games M lost, oh yea M got outrushed and they couldn't be leaned on to put those games away. Same results this year. With o pro background OL coach, M cannot identify blitzers that have a free run at the QB? In week 11? Having your son coach RB's(1st year} and your old buddy coaching interior line along with play calling duties...dunno but there's not a good mesh there. At least last year the RB's picked up the blitz ALOT better.

He’s going to be a monster RT next year. If things don’t workout with Newsome/recruits, he could be the LT. The guy plays with a chip on his shoulder and has had to earn every ounce of playing time over more highly recruited guys. He may not be a 4 star, but neither are most / all of Wisco’s monsters. I’m starting to sense that a lot of these guys coming in with 4 stars, Army all American praise, espn commitment shows, trips to Rome, “greatest program in history,” etc crap don’t play with edges. We need more Glasgows and Spanellises (Spanelli?).

No way Hurst stays. I’ve some projections that he is the top D line prospect in next years NFL draft. Mo is one hell of a player and there is no way he should risk injury for another year at UM.

It’s really difficult to adequately evaluate the passing game this season given the fact that we have had to play 3 different QBs and had to replace essentially all of the receiving corps from last year (Darboh, Chesson, Butt, Asiasi). Pep and Drevno will almost certainly get another year to work the passing game out, and I️ think that maturing a lot of potential into talent will see or passing attack take on a very different look next year.

Look at the talent that exits for sure (elibigibility expired) or likely/possibly (4th yr) to gauge how much productivity won't return. We currently have only 7.5 starters from 2 mature recruiting classes and only 4 from the 2015 class. IMO, only 3 exits (Mo, Cole, Winovich) are difficult to replace. Expired: Mason Cole, Patrick Kugler, Mo Hurst, JOK, Ty Isaac, Khalid Hill, Henry Poggi, Mike McCray Possibly: Bunting, Bushell-Beatty, Furbush, Harris, Marshall, Mone, Wangler, Watson, Ways, Wilton, Winovich Hard to assess leadership, but there are only 2 guys in the Expired that I would deem "hard" to replace - Cole & Hurst. FB would be highly concerning without Mason showing good chops and McCray's absence will require 1 of the highly talented underclassmen or DB rotations to replace his role. From Possibly, Winovich is obviously the biggest cog with JBB, Furbush and Watson getting significant playing time. I think Winovich & Wilton are only guys who will return, which leaves room for 20 signees (82 schollies and 17 exits) and we have 18 commits already.

From a roster management perspective, his departure would be low impact with 4 young, high-quality CBs already and the addition of Sims, Green(s), et al. On a side note, I would prefer DB pull one of the safeties for Watson on 3rd down to improve coverage in the slot. Kinnel and Metellus have been liabilities while Watson or Long have been on the sidelines in the rotation.

but both can be replaced and the returning three + Ruiz, etc will have another year of experience/size/weight to build on

...and solving the O-line will go a long way in solving the RB and QB dilemma ...exhibit 1 - Speight w/a seasoned/experience upper classman line vs Speight with this year's young inexperienced line ...just sayin

If M can keep a QB upright and healthy into the Ohio State game next year, they’ll be really good and probably playoff bound. If not, they’ll probably shit the bed in big games again
