Three more MSU players may be off team

Submitted by SAMgO on

There were rumors bandied about early this week about some very bad news dropping for MSU football today, and now some stories are starting to surface that include Josh King and two others being gone. Names mentioned include LJ Scott, Donnie Corley, Demetric Vance, and Kenny Lyke. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

So you're saying you basically enjoy seeing a college kid make stupid mistakes that will ruin his future with the college he chose simply because you want their program to go up in smoke?? OMG!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!! I can't WAIT to see that dumpster fire turn into a pile of ashes!!! Burn baby burn!!!

Man this feels so much like what happened with Rich Rod. A terrible season and nobody seemed to be getting along in the locker room, and guys just jumped ship left and right. Why would you want to be somewhere where you are losing all the time and everyone hates each other?

but did a lot of guys jump ship after RR? I feel like it was early in his tenure.  But he actually improved (marginally, by record) each season and left enough talent to win a BCS bowl in Hoke's first year.

We had a lot of experienced, talented guys returning.  That does not seem to be the case at all here.

a lot of the upheaval was started the day he arrived.

Different system, different culture, LOTS of mistakes by RR along the way though.

I dob't blame RR for Justin Boren leaving, he was obviously a tool to begin with.

I think the team got better, but it was kind of a paper tiger.

I was referencing his text congratulating Logan Tuley-Tillman for graduating when he signed the text "Jom H" ....I thought it was funny....everyone else? Not so much. ....I'll go fuck off in the corner somewhere.

C'mon Sparty. I hope this isn't true, it's no fun when you don't have any hope. Like when you're playing basketball with your little brother and let him take the lead and he gets all excited....

How long is the leash for the coaching staff? Dantonio is the most successful coach they've had since the 50s, but I'd think there may have to be some changes. He didn't make ANY assistant coach changes after going 3-9, are there sparty faithful that would make some changes required? I mean, he also had a kid go straight from jail to the field, and with their hockey team we know that the AD doesn't exactly want "good" teams, but still.

Not that anyone here would put any stock in what he says, but Valenti hasn't been pleased with D'Antonini's loyalty to his assistants and refusal to make changes after going 3-9.  He cites the fact that no other program has approached MSU with interest in interviewing their assistants (specially Barnett and Bollman); contrast that with Fisch and Wheatley leaving, Drevno being considered for the WMU HC position, Durkin leaving to be Maryland HC, etc.

Aside: I don't know if he's more tolerable due to State's lack of success over the last year (football and basketball) -- or just getting older, now 10+ years since The Rant -- but I gave him a chance over the last few months and find him to be not as bad as I once thought/heard.  I also prefer Reger to Foster, but that's just me.

1) I believe (more likely hope) and Sparty gives D'Antonio a long leash.  I have compared this to Perles many times (for us older MGoBloggers).  Perles had minimal success and the Spartan community kept him in there forever and the more he stayed the worse the program got.  Kinda like a tree rotting from the inside.  You don'd know the complete damage until it gets to the surface, but once you truly dig into it, it is a massive mess.

2) I turned Valenti free several years ago.  To me, Valenti impitomized the prick arrogant attitude of Sparty nation.  He could slew forth such an attitude cause Sparty football and basketball were winning.  Now that the football program is in a free fall and Izzo is not nearly on the same level, he has no choice but to dial it back.  It would be damaging to his career.....

Still won't dial him back in....

said it during the middle of this year.  Dantonio should run and hide at this point.  There are a few different long term outlooks for Michigan State football, and they are all different levels of bad.  Right now, Dantonio could retire as the guy who put Michigan State football on the map, however tenuously.  That would be his "legacy."  If he waits 2 or 3 years, he is going to be the guy that gave them a couple of good years and then presided over the program while it got a pile driver right to the bottom of the BIG East.

He should get out of there while he is remembered favorable, and when that job still has any any cache from their cute little run and can attracked at least a middling/good coach.  Three years from now nobody is going to take that job.
