Should FSU Have Been in the 4 Team Playoff?

Submitted by East German Judge on

Seeing how FSU got crushed by Oregon, did the Committee make a mistake by having FSU in the 4 team playoff?  They won so many games this year by the skin of their teeth, but were they the 3rd best?  Would a Oregon vs. TCU game been closer?

Don't forget that the 2012 undefeated Notre Dame team was in the BCS Championship Game and got crushed also.  Does undefeated = best team?

No. Honestly, they should have been the first team in. Undefeated defending champs... You should be ranked 1. Bama dodged the bullet getting Ohio St instead of TCU. There's no way you could not put fla st in the playoff. No way

There is no way you can't have them in. They were the only undefeated team in college football fergodsakes. We got the 4 team playoff exactly for this reason. It would have been Alabama versus Florida State otherwise.

8 teams

5 automatic P5 conference winners

3 selected.

Yes they got it right. Win your conference you should get a shot.

What did TCU do today to show that they would have faired better against Oregon today? Or any other team for that matter? Maybe Oregon would have rolled Alabama that way today. That is why we play the game. You play those teams ten times and you will get ten different results and I am pretty sure that FSU answers the call they didn't today.

FSU belonged in playoff. You can't keep an undefeated power 5 team out who also happens to be the defending champion. Very glad for playoff because they did not belong in title game.

werenthe defending national champions and had last year's Heisman trophy winner...yes they deserved to be there. Just because they got smoked in the second half by a great QB and team and State got beat up by a pissed off Baylor team does not change anything.

They won 26 in a row and are the reigning national champs. They are also the only no loss team in the top 4, so they should have been there.

They just had a bad day. Couldn't find the end zone and had crazy fumbles.

they should have. Only team in power 5, maybe even all of FBS to finish the regular season undefeated. If any of the top 4 didn't belong, it would most certainly be OSU.

I will say that I sort of hate these threads because of hindsight bias and a lot of other cognitive phenomena thar people tend to ignore, but to answer the question, yes they should have been here despite the performance this evening.

On paper, you would have been hard pressed to keep them out of the semifinals, but I will also agree with people who say that the TCU-Mississippi game showed us why four teams is probably not going to cut it going forward.

Are u serious, this team had t lost for 29 games. Win by 1 or win by 20 they won!!!! OSU shouldn't be there playing s that's the team who sneaked in, TCU and Baylor were both royally screwed!

Undefeated.  One of the 5 conferences.  Quality nonconference schedule.

Not b/c they were champions last season should count for nothing.

Last year Oregon wouldn't even have been in the championship game, because the traditional polls would've kept FSU at #1 all year.

All four of the CFP playoff teams played and won a 13th game against a quality opponent. Baylor and TCU got byes since there was no conference playoff game in the Big 12.  The winner of the Big 12 will need to have an undefeated season to qualify for the CFP playoffs.

I'm glad FSU was included to force them to play a caliber of opponent such as Oregon and get exposed.  Otherwise, they likely would have played a good but much lesser team (Baylor, Ole Miss, Miss st) and possibly get by

They had a bad game and were champions and undefeated 2 years straight. Stupid to even go off hindsight.
