If this means that Gary

If this means that Gary Danielson can show the SEC less love then I'm all for it.

What changed?

See this is funny because we all already knew ESPN was the SEC Network and now they've just confirmed it!

Gues we're gonna have to prepare oursleves for a lot of SEC love on ESPN now.  It's going to be quite the change from their usual unbiased reporting.

SEC football and the national spelling bee should never be on the same network. Insults the the intelligent.

What if

...its an All-SEC spelling bee?

I'm sure that'd be a real nail biter.

Early exits

It sure would be a quick contest. You would have to hope the first words given are something along the lines of roll or tide in order to get out of the first round.

Some people on /cfb/ are

Some people on /cfb/ are citing a possible $30mm/year per school. Not sure if it is correct but if it is, that is insane.

If SEC Network Comes in at $1/sub

And you live in, say Atlanta, you'd be paying $10 + whatever margin your cable provider adds on in sports costs for just 4 channels:  ESPN, ESPN2, Fox Sports South, and SEC Network (Source: SNL Kagan). It'd be worth it if you're a sports fan, but they're fleecing everyone else.

actually...

i cannot wait until it is legal for college athletes to get paid like the rest of $EC recruits....at least that way the top recruits will go to schools in nice cities/states/regions compared to the likes of Tuscaloosa and wherever the hell the Mississippi schools are located...I mean seriously, why would you not choose a B1G of PAC12 school over a swampy, humid, hot and shitty town over the likes of AA, Berkely, Madison, LA, Eugene, etc.etc.etc.????

Because you're an 18 year old

Because you're an 18 year old male who doesn't care about education, wants to go to as few classes as possible, get as much assistance as possible, wants nice weather, and hot girls.  Plus, your arrogance may be blinding you, but Southern college towns are actually really nice and aren't getting snow in mid-April.

Raycom?

Or you mean a real SEC Network, not just the remnants of Raycom and ESPN Plus this time?

Great! Interesting that the SEC is selling itself to ESPN rather than the ownership being with the conference itself.

What will this mean to the B1G's ABC/ESPN relationship? I could see FOX & ESPN in a bidding war for first tier rights to B1G in a few years. Pac-12 just got $3bn from ESPN for 12 years last season, B1G could go $5bn for 15 from anyone. Just don't go with Versus/NBC!

Fox Sports 1 could come into play

and given that BTN is 49% owned by News Corp, I think you'll see Fox take a keen interest on protecting some CFB from the ABC/ESPN duo. I'd expect Fox to pay more than market value simply to ensure that FS1 has enough content to be competitive with the ESPNs.

BTN is now owned

51 percent by Fox.  They exercised a provision in their contract a couple years back that gave them the majority interest.

I think it safe to assume that Fox will be a major player for the B10 in a couple years when the ESPN/ABC agreements expire.

only watch espn when Michigan

only watch espn when Michigan is playing.  Really don't watch it otherwise, so doesn't really impact my life.

Hopefully the B1G will parlay this into a bigger TV payout when our TV contracts come up.

For Further Information....

SBNation included the network's already extant FAQ page as well as the ESPN full press release on this page (HERE).

Among some of the more interesting revelations inside the FAQ is that ESPN will be selling the advertising and sponsorship as well as represent the network in the Corporate Sponsor Program. It also seems like there will be no streaming of games on school sites anymore either, if I am reading this right. Conference staff, however, will not have airtime supposedly, so "The Mike Slive Variety Hour" is a non-starter fortunately.

conflict of interests?

At what point do you guys think that this shouldn't be allowed to happen due to a conflict of interests?  I am sure we all know that throughout the history of heisman voting, AP polls, coach polls, etc. people tend to vote for their conference/team over others.

What happens when the major news network has a vested interest in building up one conference against all others?

News in the country is a fucked up thing from the past; all we have is entertainment

You're 5 years late to the party SEC

If there's one thing Delaney has done that is an absolute slam dunk, it's starting the BTN and making the Big Ten filthy rich.

Late?

They may be late, but they will also be paying their members a lot of money. Seeing as they already pay a lot to their coaching staffs and invest in their facilities, I would say they have only been held back. I love the B1G and everything, but this, while inevitable, will only make them more competitive.

Only if they expand and pick

Only if they expand and pick up two teams out of the ACC. Mizzou going West means Auburn goes East and Alabama will not allow that because they would have better access to Florida and Georgia (also known as the land blessed by the football gods).

Could they possibly move Alabama schools over?  They'd just have to move one of Kentucky/Tennessee/Vandy to do it.
