Roster has updated heights and weights; Green at 240 (!)
Pardon me while I update my roster on NCAA like the loser I am.

Chris Fox is the heaviest player on the roster at 338!
OL looks really BIG
Lewan (6'8", 315), Braden (6'6", 318), Miller (6'4", 290), Kalis (6'5", 302), Schofield (6'7", 304)
Average OL is 6'6", 306 lbs.

Terry Richardson (167) is still the lightest.

...but it seems like we're bigger everywhere this year. Even our kickers and QBs.

on a diet. 338 just has to be too much bad weight I'd guess.

That's not fat, those are big bones.
I want to hear that from the coaches.
I doubt they wanted Bryant at whatever he weighed last year. And I doubt they want Green at 240.

I thought Green looked bigger than 212ish in the practice video.

Green is at 240?!?! May the football gods have mercy on any soul that tries to get in between him and the goal line.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:40 PM ^
Maybe you should worry more about any soul trying to get between Derrick and the buffet line.

Ron Dayne...but fast!!!
August 6th, 2013 at 12:52 PM ^
Green is heavier than the FB's that will be blocking for him!!

Some of the positional average heights and weights right now:
RB - 5'11", 216 lbs.
WR - 6'1", 191 lbs.
OL - 6'5", 301 lbs.
DE - 6'4", 270 lbs.
LB - 6'2", 233 lbs.
DT - 6'3", 292 lbs.
QB - 6'2", 214 lbs.
DB - 6'0", 184 lbs.
At 240 pounds, I can see Derrick Green running through people in padded workouts too.

Those are what you're looking for in a prototypical football team

that Coach Hoke is grooming Derrick Green for nose guard at this point

Gedeon's weight should guarantee him seeing the field this fall, special teams at the very least.
Clark is huge for a WDE.. and I love it.
I love the sizes of Green, Smith, and Johnson. Hopefully all the weight Green has put on is good weight,
Magnusson seems to be a bit slow putting on the weight, he may not be the LT of the future after all.

but just as, if not more, important is what role they will play and how badly they want (or don't want) to redshirt.
There isn't any need for another LB. We have Bolden backuping up MIKE and WILL (with RJS in the mix as well) and 3 SAMs (Beyer, Gordon, Ryan). Meanwhile, next year will be Morgan's senior year and Bolden/Ross/RJS will be juniors.
I'd be pretty shocked if Gedeon didn't redshirt.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:44 PM ^
At 6-5, 287, he's probably too small.
Yes, one inch and three lbs. does make a big difference, for those of you ready to argue that Jack Miller is only 6-4, 290.
Isn't Kugler coming off of shoulder surgery? I'd expect that, along with the fact that he is a true frosh, to make it extremely likely that he redshirts.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:44 PM ^
240? That's alot of mustard going into those kicks!
Less variance in height at this point. Brady Hoke definitely likes his tall people.

That's always the case though. You could use that logic to worry about Miller being 280 after camp.
I don't think it's warranted, but if people want to fret on 240 being too heavy, it's the right number to use.
Yeah, it's kind of useless. In one week, my weight may be as low as 170 or as high as 176. When I was in HS wrestling, we in the upperweights would easily drop 5-10 pounds in a day or two. I doubt more than 5% of players ever actually play at their roster weight but it is good to see lighter guys bulk up and bigger guys shed bad weight.

has no one mention that De'Veon Smith is @ 224? We've got more than 1 highly ranked freshman running back people.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
Smith was 220ish during his recruitment, so I think people aren't talking about it because it's not that surprising.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:58 PM ^
I just don't see how we Smith has been almost completely neglected from the running back talk around these parts.
and Deveon is completely off everyone's radar anyway because of Green. He's a top100ish back at 225 and not a soul is taking notice. He might surprise people down the road

Good to see Shane where he is (201)
August 6th, 2013 at 12:51 PM ^
This just makes me realize how much I want this season to start, especially with the size of our projected OL starters.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:53 PM ^
Maurice Hurst down to 270, I gotta figure thats a good thing. He was probably carrying bad weight at 300. Also, Butt and Funchess are basically the same size now
All weight neutrality is good
August 6th, 2013 at 12:56 PM ^
Don't overlook Da'Mario Jones. He is college ready at 6'2" 192. He may come on pretty strongly his freshman year.
August 6th, 2013 at 12:59 PM ^
For his frame and the way he runs on the highlight from H.S. - certainly would not want more on him. He wasn't exactly Noel Devine'ish before. With that said, camp will definately get 8- 10 off of him IMO. Going forward though, he ain't gonna get taller so it looks like he will really have to battle his physical maturity for his time at Michigan. Not a bad thing, just a thing.
Smith is a great weight for his body type and athleticism.
Gedeon is supposedly a freak in the weight room/testing and with that size now he could be one of the top odds guys to play meaningful time out of this class.
