Players taking medicals? [Ed-S: ..or non-renew 5ths, or transfers]
"There's only 12 seniors in this class, we'll have some guys who are medical (redshirts) and that kind of thing, which gets us up to about 15, but this is a small class. Seventy-eight of our players are freshmen or sophomores, that's a lot of young guys."

Fan-tast-tic. Why has the injury bug come down on us so fucking hard this year?

I'm not saying Mark Snyder isn't a great reporter. I'm just saying . . .

I am going to be majorly upset. It really better not be him.

It's not Peppers. I will Raback that.

There's no way. No way.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:16 AM ^
It would be nigh-impossible for Peppers to have a medical hardship. Guy was (apparently) practicing a couple of weeks ago.
October 23rd, 2014 at 12:57 PM ^
It was only a few days ago.
October 23rd, 2014 at 1:21 PM ^
I still doubt it is a guy like Peppers. I haven't read the presser, but I suspect if it was a "big" name it would have been leaked already.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:12 AM ^
Let rampant speculation begin! For it to be career ending, I have to imagine they're upperclassman type players.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:13 AM ^
If it's Peppers or Green, I will stab myself with a carrot. We might as well put spikes on our field and we'd have less injuries than we do now.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:15 AM ^
I don't know I still feel like spikes would make things worse.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:17 AM ^
Really doubt a broken collarbone is a career-ender.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:55 AM ^
I get it. This could be the perfect way to instill even more toughess and physicality into our practices.
Edit: obviously I hope that these players make a full recovery from these injuries and have full and productive post football lives.
October 23rd, 2014 at 12:27 PM ^
our garden might have a homegrown carrot for you. Please dont hurt yourself because Peppers is okay I think.

Funk, Hoke and Brandon perhaps?
Oh damn - he said players.

You may hit a career high for upvotes with that comment!

I'm curious who your obvious possibilities are. I don't want to break the rule of speculating about injuries, but I will try to rule people out (delete if I cross a line...I certainly wish the best for all of our guys.)
K. Hill - ACLs aren't career ending. Morgan - I suppose, if it's bad enough. But it seems to be upper limb, and he's eligible for a medical redshirt to return. Pipkins - Has been absent lately, this would be a shame. D. Hill - Feels like just yesterday he was our pre-season starter with some buzz. I hope not. Drake Harris - Feels a bit early to call it a career...I REALLY hope not.
Those are the major injuries affecting guys I know about. These three players could include depth guys or walk-ons. Again, I don't wish a career ending injury on anybody...but that seems most likely based on what I do know about contributors who we know are injured.
Get your education fellas, there's life after football for 100% of you. You just know it a bit earlier.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:18 AM ^
I think we can rule out seniors because the context was how it would affect the size of the recruiting class.

walk ons...most don't get schollys.

Its not Drake Harris. He is healthy and has been participating on scout team in practice.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:49 AM ^
Yesterday Hoke said he was doing more at practice.
My guess is that two of the players aren't on the depth chart. We haven't heard about their injuries yet. I think there's only one obvious candidate among the group whose injuries are more or less known.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:17 AM ^
To be honest, I don't see a ton of obvious possibilities, here.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:20 AM ^
I think one is PeeWee. Peppers is a possiblity. His injury is supposedly a chipped bone in his knee. Doesn't sound career ending. Green only had the collarbone and unless theres a whole lot more there, I can't believe it would be career ending. Hill has the knee but I would think a career ending diagnosis would be made after recovery. Has he even had surgery yet?
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:19 AM ^
Harris? Hill? Oof.
I want NONE of the players out for a medical.

Upon reflection, Bass' injury heralded the beginning of the end.
The "what might have been" (2006 MNC?), morphed into the near 10 year abyss.
Yes, his loss looms that large for me.
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:21 AM ^
3 career-ending injuries? Three!!! What are they doing to these guys?
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:30 AM ^
It's not patty cakes they are playing. Everyone that plays football knows you can get serously hurt at any given time. This is why the pros almost never hit in training camp or practice anymore. I don't think it is fair to blame the coaches for injuiries. But at this point one of our players could catch ebola and it would somehow be Brandon and Hokes fault .
October 23rd, 2014 at 11:39 AM ^
Let me repeat what you just said: "Brandon and Hoke intentionally gave the team Ebola!"
ridiculous they should be fired.

The only speculating I will do is that anecdotally, it seems that many career-ending injuries that I have heard of occur above the shoulders...

Question: Was the player who delivered that hit ever further disciplined? Sorry for not keeping tabs but, did the UM staff follow up with the BIG office on that? It looked like blatant targeting.

They don't take action against a player or his team, but they review the issue as part of their ongoing review of officials and the job they're doing. That was the purpose in submitting it to the B1G.
October 23rd, 2014 at 1:26 PM ^
and is Gardner's backup, according to Hoke.

1) Just making a general statement that class is always bigger than the number of scholarships because of attrition and medical redshirts. Everyone here makes the exact same statement when they talk about possible class size.
2) Or may have also been counting guys who are on campus now but are already on medical redshirt status such as Chris Bryant as that is additional scholarship that some would see if they based on the guys still on campus.

to get to three, he is including Bryant in that number.
Remember it is how Hoke was getting from 12 spots to 15.

At least a Michigan Education is a decent cosolation prize. Still sucks, but they could be worse off (assuming no dehabilitating injuries).
