1 day 8 hours ago 8 out of 10

I can't give this movie any higher than an 8.

Likes: The action sequences were good. I liked the narrative structure of mixing in the flashbacks as the film goes on, rather than telling the story in a linear fashion. The acting was serviceable, but I especially liked Michael Shannon as Zod.  I am thankful that Snyder stayed away from his traditional super-slo-mo sequences that he couldn't stop doing in 300 at least.

Dislikes:  The shaky-cam throughout the film gave me a massive headache. I was just glad I didn't see it in 3D. Too much CGI, but I'm not sure how else they were supposed to do the fights between characters that powerful. There were a handful of plot holes that annoyed the heck out of me.

Overall I enjoyed the film, but not as much as TDK or the Avengers. It was vastly superior to Superman Returns though.

4 days 9 hours ago My 2nd father's day, busy weekend

Happy Fathers Day to all the MGoDads on here, especially the first timers!

Busy weekend ahead for me. Today I've got a half day from work so I'm going to catch Man of Steel this afternoon.  BBQ at a friend's house tonight. Saturday drive up to Wisconsin to visit my wife's family & celebrate Fathers Day with her dad.  Sunday drive to my Dad's house to swim in his pool if the weather permits or hit the driving range if its too cold to swim, then grilling and dinner with the family that night.

6 days 7 hours ago I feel your pain

I have Dish Network, and my signal too goes crappy with storms like this. Not looking forward to the drive home from work in it either, hopefully it comes late tonight through Chicago.

**EDIT:  I checked weather.com and lucky me, this is supposed to hit right at rush hour. With luck though it will pass through before the Hawks game starts, but it's supposed to clear up by 9 so at least I should have signal back by the end of the game.

1 week 1 hour ago better late than never?

1 week 1 hour ago LOL

thanks it's nice to know some appreciate me, and thanks mods for the fast response time.

1 week 2 hours ago whatever

chickenshit.  that short enough a response for you?

1 week 2 hours ago whoa dude

**EDIT - this comment, as well as M-Wolverine's funnier response above me was in response to a troll named FatUpton who's comment attacking me directly seems to have been killed by the mods.**

seriously who shat in your cereal this morning?

so it is a bad thing that I post long posts? what would you rather I do? one line posts that contribute in no way to the conversation like "cool story bro"?

I put my Twitter on here because I enjoy conversing with other mgobloggers on twitter, and obviously they do too or they wouldn't converse with me there. As to linking to my blog, that I do for fun and because I enjoy it, with no ads or anything but just to amuse myself, over a third of my traffic to it comes from here so apparently some people do like what I have to say.

I have no idea what I did to piss you off so bad but whatever. And obviously you're a coward, posting this from an account you just created for this one post, so you're probably a regular mgouser who is too chicken to say this from their real account.

1 week 8 hours ago Thanks

for the input and feedback! You know, that is something that never occurred to me, your point about people rating her at a 7 or an 8 and what kind of effect that may have on the thought processes of other women who read those comments. It makes sense though now that you point it out. It just adds in to the problems in our culture that lead to people developing body confidence issues, when people say someone that is paid professionally for their looks is overweight or ugly, what kind of effect that has on regular people's self image & self esteem. I hope other people take that lesson away from your post as well.

+1 Your comment for insightfulness

1 week 8 hours ago I'm surprised

myself that there are only a handful of Upton gifs posted in here, I thought there would be a lot more which is why I gave it the maybe NSFW warning

1 week 18 hours ago My list

Obvious faves are obvious: Yost & the Big House

the old Chicago Stadium, torn down in 1993. It had insane acoustics and was ear-splittlingly loud. When I was in the 5th grade, when the bulls were heading towards the title and the blackhawks to a cup appearance vs Pittsburgh, my dad took me to two games there in one weekend, a Bulls one on Saturday and the Hawks on Sunday. My ears were still ringing on Wednesday. I miss that place, it was so good.

Welsh-Ryan in Evanston sucks for college hoops. I love Wrigley, the tradition, the ivy, etc, but there are parts of that place that smell like piss.

1 week 18 hours ago My thoughts several hours later

It's the OP here. I wanted to thank all sides in participating on the discussion in this thread. I'd like to thank those that pointed out that I titled this thread well, including the NSFW warning, those of you like BiSB, JustinGoBlue, Magnus, MadMonkey, & others, thank you for realizing the intent behind this thread & supporting this in the comments. I did tip off the mods on twitter that I'd be posting this, so they could make sure that this was okay to stand, and since it's still here 7 hours later, obviously there was no fault in this post.

The intent was - hey, it's a slow day, and Ms Upton is popular around these parts, so why not have a little fun on the forums about it. I just wish I had been able to participate in the discussion as it was going on but I had other things to take care of until now this evening. As the upvotes outweigh the downvotes by about a 3:1 margin right now, there are obviously many on here that approve that I posted this.

That said - people like go16blue and get-on-my-lawn, I appreciate your point of view as well. I know that there are many that don't like Kate Upton being splashed all over a sports blog or don't find her attractive. Fortunately, her birthday is in the summer, right in the middle of OT thread season. And since the thread was well titled, it's not like you didn't know what to expect by clicking on it. I could've been all vague with my title and been like "guess who turns 21 today" without any warning and then all of the sudden you click and see dancing Upton. But I wanted to create a thread in a way that would aggravate as few people on here as possible.

Yes this is a sports blog, but the last sports related thread I started was about Hagelin's recent shoulder surgery last week, and that got <10 comments. This is at about 100 right now. Not everything has to be all sports all the time in order to spark a good discussion. But to all thanks for your comments. I do appreciate any feedback that helps me to be a better poster and contributor to this site and in this community that I have really come to enjoy being a part of in my year of posting after 6 years of lurking.

1 week 1 day ago Jaime/Brienne's early return

I think that perhaps one possible reason the showrunners wanted to change the timing of the return is to invent a bunch of scenes not in book 3 as filler for the fourth season.  Just like they've shown us conversations between Cersei & Jaime that never occurred in the books in earlier seasons, by having the reunion come before Jeoffrey's wedding as opposed to after it allows the showrunners to have these great characters in the Lannister family all have scenes where they play off of each other and interact with each other, like we did on the show last night, even if they weren't moments from the books.

I love this show, my only fear is that they'll catch up to Martin before he can finish the novels. He needs to just be locked in a room until he finishes.

1 week 1 day ago serial neg-bangers

There are some people on here that neg-bang everything, or neg-bang everything by certain posters, even if it is a comment that actually positively contributes to the conversation. I know I've somehow developed a few of those haters, because I've been negbanged in a POSBANG thread for no reason whatsoever. There have even been other posters commenting on my posts with "why was this downvoted?" posts.  So my festivus grievance is the neg-bangers, and the fact that they can't just come forward and tell me what I did to tick them off so that I may attempt to make amends.

2 weeks 23 hours ago I can see your reasoning

I can see your reasoning for that, but I can also see them delaying it too as one major character's abilities have not been really developed that much this season and they might need next season to set that up, otherwise explaining how things are found might be tricky.

man it is going to be hard to talk about this without spoilers, but hopefully you'll get where I'm going with this. to non-book readers i apologize if this spoils anything, i'm trying really hard to be as vague as possible.

My thoughts for season 4 will be the show will focus on kings landing a ton, focus on the introduction of the Dornish people coming to court at kings landing and their backstory there as well as things taking place back in Dorne to set up that house better for season 5, and also go back to the Ironborn again as they've been kinda absent this season aside from Theon. I think they'll save the book 3 epilogue for a cliffhanger whammy at the end of season four to really mess with people's heads for between seasons 4 and 5 of the show. plus the show managed to keep a secret before when they had the house of the undying's surprise back in season 2, so I have faith. Plus they still have things to do with Dany off in the East and with Jon up north, and Stannis has been relatively absent from the show lately too, so they could stretch out the rest of book 3 across the whole 4th season without having to go too far into book 4.

If I had to guess on a timeline for season 4 it would be the first major remaining event around epsiode 5 or 6, and the second one a few episodes later in episode 9. the epilogue event will be at the end of episode 10.  but that's just my guess, I could obviously be wrong. if you want do discuss elsewhere where we don't have to be as vague, hit me up on twitter or my email which is my mgoblog user name @ gmail.com

2 weeks 1 day ago keep in mind

book 3 of the book series is going to be both seasons 3 and 4 of the show, so there are plenty of events from book 3 that will not be happening until next year. I'd be surprised if HBO ends season 3 with the events at the end of book 3. That's how they're going to end next year and blow everyones' minds then.

2 weeks 4 days ago Chilling weekend

For once we don't really have much on our calendar.  Our town is having their summer days carnival already, and it is directly across the street from our house, so the plan is to chill and grill on the front lawn and listen to the free concerts all weekend. Tomorrow night's headliner is the amazing Beatles cover band American English. They are really really good, this will be my fourth time seeing them.

Have a great weekend everyone and congrats to the posters above with their new kids, graduations, or weddings this weekend!

2 weeks 4 days ago It was discussed

last week on the board here:  http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/very-ot-hangover-3-thread-may-contain-spoilers

From the comments in that thread, it seems to not be so good. Only thing I've seen in theaters recently was the new Star Trek last week, loved it.

2 weeks 6 days ago We're up now

I just voted, we're up 62.76% to 37.24%.  Anyone know when the poll closes?

Also, apparently a lot of people are voting for Indiana just for the fun of it, and they are up on PSU 54.19% to 45.81%.

this weekend was already good, now its great! Hail! Go Blue! Now Im gonna go have a margarita, happy drinking everyone!

3 weeks 4 days ago Long weekend

Today I have a half day at work so I'm outta here in 45 minutes.  I'll be home on my xbox this afternoon shooting zombies in L4D or L4D2, if anyone wants to join me my xbox live account is the same as my MGoUsername, MikeCohodes.

This afternoon happyhour hitting up a bar with my wife and her coworkers, she's a school counselor and the staff is getting together for a celebration of the end of the year.

Saturday or Sunday we're going to ditch our mgobaby with my wife's parents and go to the movies to catch the new Star Trek.

Monday I'll fire up the grill for the first time this year despite the cold and grill some steaks, wash it down with some Two Brothers Dog Days now that their summer ale is back, and I'll write up a review of Star Trek for my blog.

Thanks to all who have served or have a relative who have served in our armed forces, thank you for your sacrifices that allow us to have the freedoms we have.  Have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend everyone!

3 weeks 5 days ago Agreed

It was nice to put a face to the username, and agree on the geek/nerd assessment.

If there are any other MGoBloggers on here that work for AonHewitt in Lincolnshire, IL, let Andrew or I know so we can all do a UM lunch!

3 weeks 5 days ago it upsets me too

they were hours of my life I'll never get back, all because I had nothing better to do. At least I can warn others of their awfulness so they can avoid my fate.

3 weeks 5 days ago never saw those

so thats why they aren't on my list, because the list is the worst I've ever seen.  I learned my lesson in how awful the series was having watched the first, I wasn't about to waste my time on a direct to dvd film with a recasting of the title role. I'd imagine they'd have made the list if I did suffer through them though.  Thankfully, I'm not a paid critic so I don't have to watch everything if I don't want to.

3 weeks 5 days ago I watch a lot of movies

as anyone who has wandered over to my blog can attest. I worked at a theater in HS and college (the one over in Ypsi at corner of 94 & 23) and saw pretty much everything that came out from 1998-2004 for free, so I saw a ton of awful movies. I highly doubt that this one will crack my top 10 worst movies i've ever seen list, but it doesn't look too promising.  I'll be waiting for the DVD on this one, not going to waste $10 a ticket on this thats for sure.

3 weeks 6 days ago Question-

are you dorkier for having the Michigan Voltron avatar, or am I dorkier for knowing that it is a Voltron avatar?

3 weeks 6 days ago Thanks!

Thanks!  I'll show my wife your comment when I get home, she'll appreciate it. Yeah I definitely got lucky getting her, she's definitely a step above what a guy like me should be able to land. She was a cheerleader at GVSU her freshman year before transferring to Michigan, where she was offered a spot on the team but turned it down due to needing to work to pay for school, so I am a lucky son of a gun, thats for sure.

3 weeks 6 days ago Yup

That's why I was holding HIM tightly, not that it would've mattered as he was not walking yet at that age.  We'll be back in Ann Arbor this August though so we'll have to make sure to watch out that he doesn't step on it then.

3 weeks 6 days ago That reminds me

forgot this pic in my other post further down the thread, this one is of my son's first trip to Ann Arbor, about 5 months old at the time.
