OT: The Americans (TV show)
Sounds like there's a lot of fans here of this show from previous threads involving shows, and I thought I'd start a thread about tonight's episode. only 3 episodes left this season, with s4e11 being tonight at 10pm on FX.
*Spoiler warnings for those not caught up.
General thoughts:
-Season 4 has been excellentespite the last couple episodes being a little slower, but I expect that to change tonight. I am curious what exactly is going to become of Paige by the end of the season. I feel like she has to go all-in with her parents or all-out
-Will they ever show if poor Martha is alright these days?
-Speaking a poor Martha, what about poor Don
-Agent Gaad....Ted Beneke anyone?
Preview below. Sounds like Pastor Tim finally meets Stan (nnnn)
Soooo glad Martha's gone. I love the show.

F/X announced today they renewed this awesome show for seasons 5 & 6, with 13 & 10 episodes each. Season 6 will be the final season. So at least they'll be able to wrap up the story.
I can't believe they haven't killed the pastor and his wife.
That pastor Tim & Alice are not long for the world now that she made that threat of the tape.
Surprised she has Kept her mouth shut for this long though... Well other than that tape
I think Paige will go all in eventually with having to make the call to have them killed.
I hope so!! Pastor Tim is a bitch lol

I agree, I dislike Paige's character. I think she's a good actor, and I understand her plight, but I think it would be really lame for the Jennings to get busted bc of Paige

Surprised to see other people watch this. I love this show- but it seems like nobody I talk to has even heard of it. Well worth the time- especially for those of us that grew up during the Cold War.

Haven't watched The Americans yet, but I highly recommend Tyrant. Also on FX. Season 3 starts in the beginning of July.

One of the actresses from The Americans, the one who was great as Nina, is coming to Tyrant this season.
The real tension and drama they create with superb acting is incredible. Poor Paige is so caught up between everyone that even her meeting with fellow teenager Mathew might lead to more complications instead of an outlet.
This is what I think is going to tilt the plot right here. Paige is going to confide in Steve's son. Steve's son is going to leak it one way or another to Steve. And then away we go.
You mean Stan?
Yes. Stan.
Epic fail on my part. That was horrible.
For honesty. I can see that happening tho, maybe in season 6
This is exactly what I thought after last week's episode. I feel like they might get a love connection going and that always makes you vulnerable.
I think part of the reason some people might not watch it is because they probably don't want to have to root for the "bad guys" (Soviets) and I must say that even though I have started to care about the family i root against them and hope they get caught or turn against their mother country but I realize that would pretty much end the show.
Although, turning against their mother country can make for some interesting plot lines and continued seasons.
Isn't that the same kind of viewer dilemna you had with Breaking Bad? Walter White and Jessie were bad guys doing horribly bad things. Still, you wanted them to succeed.
I don't watch GoT so I never click on those threads. I also used to never watch dramas like The Americans. But I'm glad I started watching it when it first started, as opposed to not staring Breaking Bad until halfway through season 2. It truly seems to gain momentum every year and get better and better.
And great Ted Beneke reference. I know exactly what you're thinking couldn't agree more. Well done.
Love the show. Criminally underwatched and under-represented in awards nominations. Perhaps the best discourse on families currently on TV.

I've been bringing myself up to speed on this one, and I am enjoying it thoroughly. I actually have the same issue as a poster above now - I keep trying to talk about it to people at work and no one seems to have heard about it, much less watched it. The more I see, the more I don't understand why it hasn't been more popular.
I have no idea how this show doesn't get 2x more love. Been on it since EP 1 and man what a show.
Can't seem to talk about Fargo with anyone as nobody I know seems to watch it. Thank god for the IMDb message boards , though
Fargo at least cleans up (or did for season 1) in Emmy nods. The Americans is in prestige-TV Siberia.

Fargo season 1 and 2 were fantastic. Bruce Campbell as Ronald Reagan, c'mon, that's perfection right there.
I don't really look at TV and worry about Emmy's and awards. It's just a popularity contest. I mean Game of Thrones won a ton of awards for season 5, and that was the worst season of the show. The Emmy's are always a few years late on awarding good shows. Breaking Bad didn't win anything until later in the show. Hannibal should have been nominated for cinemetography, along with best show, but I don't think it ever sniffed much of a nom.
Thanks for the spoiler warning! I was curious so I clicked on the thread. I'm currently on season 2 but I'm liking the show so far. I'd be further along if my wife could stay up past a toddlers bedtime. With season 2 of Bloodline being released Friday, I'll have to put Americans on hold for a couple weeks

But I haven't gotten around to it. I got bored with bloodline a few episodes in so maybe I'll give this one a go once GoT is over.
Also, Amazon needs to hurry the fuck up and make more episodes of The Man in the High Castle. That show is TV crack for me.
Check out Peaky Blinders if you haven't already. It's a gangster show set in post WWI England. Two seasons are already out and the 3rd starts up later this month

But it sounds right up my alley. I'll check it out.
What's the mission they are trying to accomplish with the Korean guy? If they explained why they are after him I missed it. Can someone explain?
I'm not positive and probably wrong, but for some reason I thought he worked at the biochemical plant/lab and they wanted his access because the other dude didn't have the highest clearance.
That perfectly fits so thanks for clearing that up!
I absolutely love the show. The first season was my favorite, but seasons 2, 3, and 4 did not disappoint. I too think something huge is coming at the end of this season. My guess is that Stan Beaman stumbles upon something that begins to point him in the direction of the Jennings family.
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
What will he first stumble upon: the Jennings are KGB spies, or who's been drinking his beer?
I tried getting into this show, I watched the first two episodes. But as someone who was born in the former USSR and whose parents had to grow up under the terror of the Soviet regime, I just could not bring myself to stick with it. Too personal.
That's completely understandable. I find it so fascinating that both sides were fighting this super secret war. The show is very well done.

I remember that ad. Very nice.
Well, then. THIS dinner conversation just got really awkward.
I wait until the wife and kids have gone to bed then watch in the dark on the DVR. Highlight of my week and perfect cap to hump days. Finding out they're being renewed for two more seasons sure gives the writers a lot of flexibility....a few random thoughts...Frank Langella is perfectly cast, Noah Emmerich is one of the best character actors working...I think Philip will ultimately defect, with Henry, after something bad happens to Paige. Elizabeth is more of a true believer and will either return to Russia or get caught...the pacing and direction are superb, and the ability to get all the details of the era in the set pieces right is incredible (IIRC, something like 100 million people watched The Day After when it first aired. it was an EVENT)....The soundtrack is impeccable: my favorite moment being when Yaz played as Stan searched the diner bathroom for evidence...Favorite character is Burov, and the deaths of Nina and Gaad were gut punches....God, I love this show...best thing on television in years (though I'm a bit biased as a dyed in the wool Russophile).
Don't fuck with Elizabeth.
That scene was the perfect way for Paige to be introduced to how dangerous and full of shit her mom and dad really are.
I know she's the enemy, but damn, Elizabeth is badass. She went all mama bear and protected her kid from those pervs.
The guy just had to go and pull a knife and blow her cover of not hurting people. Can't wait to see how they deal with the dynamic between her & Paige, for whom there's a whole new level of freaking out.
Woooo man that was a slow burn and an eruption
Shit just got real for Paige. Wow!
It's a good show, but only the third best on FX behind Fargo and The People v. OJ.
I have been hearing great things about this show, and plan to watch it on Amazon Prime as soon as Game of Thrones and the final season of Person of Interest which has been a powerhouse show, and the only network on show that is comparable to the premium channels. I hear great things about the Americans, and was a big fan of Fargo season 1 and loved season 2 even more. Archer is good too on FX, I am more of a South Park fan, but discovered a really awesome cartoon in Rick and Morty. Anyone watch that?
I actually love seeing all the props from the 80's. All the cars and decour really brings me back to my chilhood. Sometimes I think too much 70's with some of the clothes. Anyways, they did a great job of paying attention to details. That just complements the great acting.
