Piped in music getting ridiculous

Submitted by UMxWolverines on

Ok I'm all for it when it gets the crowd loud (Seven Nation Army, RAWK), but Sexy and I know it? Really? I don't know any of the other stuff they played besides Sweet Caroline and Don't Stop Beliving but it was all pretty terrible and it really didn't help with atmosphere at all.

I wish that we wouldnt play piped in music every other down, and it gets in the way of the crowd noise on third down if everybody's chanting 7 nation army instead of just yelling as loud as they can.

well.....

but on the opening kickoff? if seven nation army has a place, it is later in the game. i could even live with it being played on a big 3rd down, though i'd rather people just yelled. but if seven nation army is required on the first play of the game to get us pumped up, something is seriously wrong with our fan base.

But when it is played in moderation. Like 2-3 times a game is fine at good points (like during a timeout before an important defensive play) It gets the student section pumped up more than just about any other song. However, they play it FAR too much. I lost count of how many times exactly at 10. It's hit the point where I hear that song in the stadium almost as much as I hear the victors. And it's getting kind of crazy. /rant

The Jay-Z/Kanye track they kept trying to play sounded like it was being played through someone's after-market subwoofers in their '03 Dodge Neon after they've blown their speakers trying to be cool.

I watched the USC-Stanford game and noticed they had some original (i.e., not played in every other stadium in the western hemisphere or cheesy bachelorette parties) music playing, and even at Penn State, they played a song that was actually released in the past 5 years. It would be nice if the DJ realized there are more than 4 songs ever written.

We should not use PSU as a model.  Pretty much all they do is play piped-in music.  Even after a TD, they play Zombie Nation.

Personally, I don't really care about the playlist.  I want the piped-in music to be used sparingly, when the MMB isn't available.

One thing I noticed about the USC-Stanford game is the band was playing *a lot* more than it was during the Michigan game and they sounded great.

Why doesn't the MMB learn some songs in addition to the ones they know, and play those instead of having piped in music?

Music-wise, my takeaways from the 2 games were:

- USC - great sounding band

- Michigan - 7 Nation Army.  (Besides The Victors and Temptation, which are obviously great.  But why can't the band also learn other songs and play those instead of the piped in shit?  7NA is played out and boring at this point.  Same with Don't Stop Believin'....  (aka "OMG ppl, they're about to say "South Detroit" so let's scream it real loud b/c we're from Michigan... even though South Detroit doesn't exist!!"  Lame.)

Actually, the one you hear the most is called "Tribute to Troy". It has the slow march beat to it like gladiators marching to war.  It is the second part of a three song compilation that together makes up the USC "song".

"Fight on!" is part 3. It is more up beat and is played a lot after first downs and touchdowns.  You'll hear "Tribute to Troy" many more times during the course of the game. I like USC but I won't disagree with you on the annoying part. They take the band on all the trips too. It really annoys home crowds.

If you care to listen to the whole thing together, the annoyingly overplayed "Tribute to Troy" is at :40. "Fight On" is at 1:40.

No matter how many times it is played, it beats piped-in music. Sadly, it is the way of the world at these games.

I don't think USC's band plays more total songs than ours does. As far as I can tell, they just play their fight song, that Trojan chant thing, and the "Charge!" song over and over.

Yesterday, during the game, the MMB played "The Victors," "Let's Go Blue!," "Intimidation," "Temptation," "Respect" (I think), "Lose Yourself," the Caribbean Victors, the Blues Brothers song and I think at least one other one I can't remember. It's not the number of songs, but the frequency of playing that is key.  The problem is simply that we kept on piping in "Seven Nation Army" before defensive third downs, so it was easy to miss all the times the MMB did play.

USC's band is not a good example to follow by any means. They play the same two songs 13 billion times throughout the entire game. That Conquest/Men of Troy thing they do is played so often that it's become a running joke with the rest of the PAC 10 opponents. When USC's band starts playing it, they sing along with the words, "This is the only song we know, the only song we know, the only song we know." They're as bad as Florida State's band and that stupid Braves cheer which they play after every down no matter what's happened (20 yard gain or 20 yard loss).

I'm glad our band has a little more variety.

I agree with what your saying but I think he is asking for more of a variety of music. They should get with the lions on what they play. They do a pretty good job of mixing up their music. I like the piped in music I Iike the fact the fan base is getting younger too. I can't stand the people who get all pissed off when people want to stand up and watch and get excited. if you wanna be boring (like this one women who was about 300 lbs and had a cane) and sit and clap your hands that's fine but don't yell at me when everyone else stands and I stand to see over them. The last 5 games I've been to people have yelled at me for standing and yelling too loud.

year they seemed to have found a nice mix, but yesterday was atrocious.

On the plus side I did catch Denard head bobbing to one song, including after the song was over while lining up for a snap.  He then proceeded to run for about 30 yards.

I had no qualms with sexy and I know it, but then again i like having an excuse to do the hip thrust motion.

Seven Nation Army every down is the most annoying thing in the world

If we have to play it, play it a couple times per drive, and not more.  Most of the people here complaining about it are in favor of night games and new scoreboards, and not blue hairs.

What would you recommend they play to get the crowd fired up?  Because it was pretty god damn awesome during the Notre Damn Game. The crowd was pretty STALE yesterday...i guess you can blame that on Purdue.
