Pick 1 current UMer in the NFL to come back

Pick one current Michigan Man currently playing in the NFL that you think would have the largest impact on this year's team. I suspect 99% of us would pick a defensive player. Woodson

David Harris. It'd be nice to see someone in the middle who knew what they were doing. Jamar Adams would be in my top 5 too, I think... which shows you how bad the safety play is right now.

This is so embarrassing. I can't remember the last time I double posted. In lieu of merely alerting the MGoBoard to my technological idiocy, I would like to tell you, lfj75, that I found your comment highly amusing and I gave you a plus in gratitude for your comment. Please continue to post with wit and aplomb. Thank you for your time.

Woodley from one side and Graham from the other is my dream for Pittsburgh's D(leave James Harrison!)..... I'd like Jake Long, but I think the combo on D work force turnovers like crazy and have the offense constantly pumped up. Two seasons ago I'd take Tom Brady of course......

Anybody who doesn't pick Charles Woodson is drunk. You could plug him in at corner opposite Warren and move Woolfolk to safety OR you could plug him in at deep safety and let him roam center field. I'd probably choose the latter.

Would have to say Marlin Jackson. I know he is hurt right now and Woodson was better in the secondary but man I loved top watch him hit people. Bring him back and put him at safety. James Earl Jones would be next just so he could sing The Victors before each game in that deep echoing voice!

Anyone who doesn't say Tom Brady is crazy. Woodson takes away 1 offensive player. Brady eliminates the crazy stupid turnovers from Forcier and would pick apart defenses so easily, it would be criminal. 40+ points a game would be the norm.

would be nice to have.... but woodson on D would be deadly. and to say that woodson only takes away one player is kind of wrong. in 97 he shut down one side of the field, to the point where QB's wouldn't even look his way most of the time. because of that michigans D could swing coverage to the other side of the field. by doing that it would make it even harder for the QB to find someone to throw to, thus allowing our 4 man front to get pressure without having to blitz.

Jake Long. Oline protection is terrible for Tate. Yeah the D is bad, but no 1 player is going to help solve ALL the problems. Protecting Tate is as important the offense as the run game.

It has to be Woodson. Teams wouldn't be able to pass on Michigan. He could help outon offense. Perhaps most importantly, he knows how to field a punt and do something with it.

How many games have we lost because of a ridiculous amount of turnovers on punts? Just giving us someone who can fair catch wins us the Iowa game and helps out in (sadly) just about every other game over the last two years.

Co-sign on Leon...I hope you're joking about Trent. We have enough fast guys w/o true DB skills on the team already. Don't give me "any warm body would help"...Morgan Trent was a freakin' nightmare for about 3.5 years of his career. He made (maybe) 5 plays his senior year and only looked competent because he was on a 3-9 team. He belongs in the UofM defensive backfield hall of shame along with Todd Howard, Dewayne Patmon, and Cato (ball skills of a D-tackle) June. Sorry...don't mean to be harsh, just a sore spot I guess.

Woodson and Warren shut down the secondary. Woodson at slot receiver. Woodson running the wildcat. Woodson fielding punts, not fumbling punts, and returning punts.

Unfortunately, though, one player isn't enough to fix the defense, so I would change the "rules" slightly, forget fixing the D, and take a healthy Tate Forcier for the entire year if I really had my choice of one player. I am fully convinced that they would have beaten MSU and Illinois with a healthy Forcier. That would make their record and year look a lot different than it does right now. The losses to PSU and Iowa aren't really "bad" losses, considering their positions in the poll right now. It's the losses to teams like MSU and Illinois that hurt the most. Eventually, as this team gets older and deeper, it will be more able to take care of business against weaker teams. That alone guarantees eight wins a year once the pieces are in place. Then, the games against better teams are the difference between a great year and an OK year. That simple change makes a huge difference in how the season goes.

is saying woodson. i'm going to say either wheatley or biakabutuka. just for the simple fact that they both have speed and power, and don't go down on first contact or hesitate at the line when we need a TD.

I presume we mean the player as they are, right now, not their peak collegiate form, right? Because as much as the defensive secondary could use Woodson 1997 (and not that Woodson 2009 is a bad edition), I think that under the thought exercise, the linebacking corps could use Woodley 2009. Plays LB (admittedly in a 34 scheme), so he could replace a walkon, work in run stop, and probably help the secondary by getting pressure on the quarterback, either as himself or as the guy you have to account for, allowing Brandon Graham to destroy things. Also, the killing people, that would help.
