Pat Forde seems pessimistic

Submitted by mgoblueballer on

I read Forde's article on ESPN and he directly compared Tate 2009 to Denard 2010. He has a less constructive and more pessimistic, anti-Michigan tone when he seems to assume Denard doesnt have the intelligience to tie his shoes, and that Michigan should have used their extra practice time in 2009 to teach Denard how to tie his shoes. This is typical of ESPN, the same people that have him at the top of their Heisman board are ripping him. I trust Denard when he says he doesnt read all that stuff, its worthless. For now, let just enjoy watching Denard do his thing and let the other stuff happen. Denard isnt paying attention to it, why should we?

I was ready to hate on Forde's piece, but frankly it didn't seem off to me. He was shooting for a joking style and I thought he did that. I was thinking the exact same thing about the Tate for president hype from last year, even as I recognized that there's hype and then there is what Denard just did. When your team makes the front page, you gotta let people have some latitude to critique and comment without calling them assholes (unless they really are, which of course they sometimes are, a la the paper that shall not be named).

Agreed, Forde is always vicious to every team. I thought his section on us was more unfunny than insulting. People here need to take a breath before they start getting worked up about media articles.

That being said, I still won't visit freep.com or buy their shit newspaper.

Where you have been, brother?  Pat Forde is an idiot windbag, and nothing more.  See also: nearly everyone who works for ESPN's college football department.

big win over western with nfl qb to test the michigan defense and then nd the measuring stick game......

10  big win over uconn expected to win weak big east or challenge for it anyway, and big game against nd, measuring stick against the nfl offensive talent of nd.....

coming out 1st yr starters with heisman hype, newcomer of the yr......michigan is back....

But that is where the comparisons really stop...but also where it is up to this team a yr older to stick to the plan.

09 Forcier was a tr fr, was injured and was clearly not as prepared after the nd game the rest of the season.  His sideline antics with coach rod telling him things and him going right back out and doing the opposite, had me thinking denard was going to get his shot to start the next season.

10  Denard beat out that same forcier for reasons stated above, he is coachable, he corrects his mistakes and isn't phased by being corrected, as seen when coming to the sidelines and Rich is telling him he did the wrong thing he shakes his head ok, saw it against uconn a couple times, wasn't there at nd to see but the one time coming to the sidelines on tv...same reaction....   Thus the reason I have more confidence that no matter what teams do to adjust to him, he will continue taking the coaching to beat it.

people need to stop comparing denard and tate when comparing this year and last.  The bigger difference was the overall inexperience on the team, not knowing where to go, being too slow to react on defense, turnovers.  Yeah, denard IS all that, but this is a better team overall than last year, and that's the whole point.

"The Sun Devils' offense has been energized by quarterback Steven Threet -- but as the Michigan transfer can tell his teammates, going to Madison is a bit different than playing Northern Arizona and Portland State. This looks like a reality check for ASU. Dash pick: Wisconsin 28, Arizona State 10."

Lousy attention to detail, there, Forde (or, more likely, some intern).  Steve T. didn't make a trip to Madison while at Michigan.  I'm sure they remember him, though.  :)  Seriously, I hope at least someone in Madison will dig up that highlight.

The UW team began talking about Threet at last weeks postgame interviews. Bielema was asked about ASU's QB and replied "well, we are 0-1 against him." One player went so far to say that the 08' Michigan Wisconsin game ruined their whole season (UW ended up 7-6). Go Threet on Saturday, and GO BLUE!

Didn't seem overly down about Denard unless I missed something.  He basically said, let's not call him an all-time great after 2 games.  Sure, Forde is usually a jerk, but I think people are looking for enemies in shadows where none exist.

"Denard isn't paying attention to it so why should we" Not to be a dick but I wouldn't have but you posted it. Funny you say that and then feel the need to share it with the mgo community.

Did I miss something?  What did Forde say about Robinson that was wrong?  He made a joke about the extra practice time and the untied shoelaces that was actually kinda funny.

Should we award the Heisman after two games, or just relax and play the season out like he says?  Hell, he admits Denard is the front-runner right now.
