Actor, writer, and comedian Paul Reubens has passed away at the age of 70, following a private six-year battle against cancer. Reubens was best known for playing Pee-Wee Herman, a character that he originated as part of his stand-up act, before transitioning him into film, with Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, and television, in Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Umm... no. He was charged with one count... and even that was potentially pretty sketchy -

"The district attorney looked at Reubens's collection and computer and found no grounds for bringing any felony charges against him, while the city attorney, Rocky Delgadillo, formally charged Reubens on the last day allowed by statute"

Story is it was some early 1900's homosexual magazines that had a few pictures of possibly teen nudes - he had thousands of these magazines as a collector of vintage homosexual erotica, and apparently among the ~70,000 images there were some that might have been nude teenagers.

several reports said "charges were dismissed"  so whether it was one or more than one.... his house was searched as a result of a child porn sting, that also nabbed his close friend Jeffery Jones (who served time for child porn).

so you can dismiss that if you choose, but its more than a simple misunderstanding, or he wouldn't have agreed to a plea deal requiring him to register as a sex offender, I wouldn't think.

Milton Rubenfeld (Hebrew: מילטון רובנפלד; September 13, 1919 – February 21, 2004) was a pilot who flew for the Royal Air Force and U.S. Army during World War II, later becoming one of the five founding pilots of the Israeli Air Force in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. It is widely believed that Rubenfeld, the other four volunteer pilots, and the other machalniks changed the course of the1948 Arab–Israeli War. He was injured and returned to the United States, and settled in New York state, where he married and owned a local business with his wife, Judy. Later, he moved his family to Sarasota, Florida, where he and his wife owned another successful business until he retired. He died in 2004. He was the father of actor/comedian Paul Reubens, who was known for creating and portraying the character Pee-wee Herman.

I remember it well… I was recently out of college and coaching Little League baseball. I used to watch Playhouse and then slip in the magic word during the pre-game talk.  The 12U kids we’re waiting for it and went nuts after I said it!

Imaging trying to fit “Zizzybaluba” into a baseball conversation!

RIP Paul

When our daughter was young we’d watch PeeWee’s Playhouse with her, and we liked it every bit as much as she did, if not more.

I was truly saddened by this news earlier this afternoon. 😢😢😢

PeeWee's Playhouse was truly a multigenerational comedy besides being a staple of kid's TV on Saturday mornings. Other than home game weekends I watched it EVERY Saturday with my two daughters (they're now in their mid-30s!), I knew of Peewee's death because one of them posted 90 minutes ago on Facebook her love for Peewee's Playhouse. Even my own dad enjoyed the show (when I was a kid, he'd have been MUCH MORE LIKELY to instead walk over to  the TV and hit the off button).

I think I still have several VHS tapes of Playhouse we recorded back then.  Time to hook up the old VCR for a marathon session.

[edit @3pm: best opening sequence of any TV show I know of:

So bizarre and out of left field. One of the most original scenes ever. I could never imagine a movie doing something like that before or since, especially today. But it worked and its hilarious.  My brother and my best friend and I used to do that dance all the time when we were kids.

I love the tough-guy look on his face right after he revs up the motorcycle haha.
