OT: You survive the Michigan Storm of 2010 ok?
As bad as it was in Michigan, it wasn't nearly as bad as it coud have been. There were big tornadoes in Illinois and Ohio. I think the worst that Michigan will have to deal with is some flooding.
Other than the rain, everything was fine. It was pretty surreal, though, watching the weather on channel 8 and seeing the new developments across the SW part of the state.

how to reset the clock on my microwave. Its been 35 mins or so. i may just unplug it again at noon, so it will at least blink the right time.
Usually you just press Clock, enter the time, then press Clock again.
but it isn't working. I changed the other 123785234 clocks in this GD apartment, but the microwave won't cooperate. Guess I gotta wait for Ms. YakAttack to get home and do it.
This just goes to show that you must be smarter than the equipment you operate....I was pressing the timer button instead of the clock button.....
The storms we had in MI are nothing compared to what we get here in tornado alley. Just remember it could always be worse. I hope everyone is ok and the damage that was done wasn't too bad, storms are not fun when that sort of stuff happens, no matter where you are or how bad it is.
in northwest ohio there were tornado sirens on and off from about 11pm to 5am with big t-storms going almost all night
I live in Toledo and yeah it sucked last night. Tornado sirens from 10 until 12 and then again at 3:30 this morning. It was not that bad in Toledo just high winds, a lot of lighting and thunder, but in Delta (West of Toledo) and Lake Township (East of Toledo) they are saying they actually had the tornados, they are saying six touched down. They are saying there are five dead and a police station and high school both had severe damage.

It seems that Cabelas got whacked. There's going to be taxidermy all over the place.
I was going past it this morning around 7ish on my wasy to church -- yes down in that state, but that is another story for another time. I was a bit late and running a bit hot, when i saw the flashing lights; i slowed down thinking that it was strange to see the cops that early in the morning. Then I saw the TV satellite uplink and noticed a large hole in the roof of the SplishSplash hotel right next to CAbelas. The roof was on the Northbound side of US23. It was a mess.
So no taxidermy, and no more water slide fun for awhile.

We must have been lucky in the central part of the state because aside from heavy rain, nothing unusual.
Hopefully the new "projects" go OK for you M-Wolverine.....
and we missed the action I guess; hopefully no one is hurt physically or financially from said storm...emotional pain, any hurt at all...
I kept looking at the weather maps, and it seemed like there was never any storm coverage over Lansing. !@#$%*&W@# Spartans.
It's times like these that I am glad to still live in an apartment. We were at a wedding last night and knew nothing about the storms until we got home around 1, then slept through the rest of them. I think the only damage done last night was some negging on a drunk post I made.
that I completely slept through, but I woke up at 2am to see an amazing but far-off lightning display to the south that was lighting up the entire sky every 5 seconds. I got concerned we were going to get hammered again so I went outside to get a better look, and bizarrely I didn't hear one crack of thunder. This front must have so far to the south that the sound didn't get here. I would not have wanted to be right under those storms.
M-Wolverine, you have my sympathy... my previous house not too far away in A2 had a sump pump, and when it came down hard enough I would get water weeping through and down my basement foundation walls into a channel that was formed in the slab around the entire perimeter, feeding into the sump pump catch basin. The first pump burned out during a nasty storm, so I ended up with a real mess.
the tornado took out Dundee while providing the light show.
But it was working overtime. (Don't you love the sound of pouring water IN your house all night long?) I'm in trouble if we lose power during a storm. Though when I first moved it, it wasn't running, and flooded.
Of course, the window that was overflowed is on completely the opposite side of the basement from the sump.
Wish I was on the west side...I normally like a good storm, and love a lightning show.

raced by at 2:30 with just rain. The mountains here protect us a lot. Prayers to everyone who experienced loss or damage.
We got a TON of rain but no tornadoes. Packard btw Stadium and State had about 8 inches of water on it. My housemates and I took a plastic kiddie pool and tubed down the flooded Packard Street. Good times
i had a "garden level" (halfway underneath ground) apartment a couple years back down here and the slightest storm would flood all of the ground outside of it and then slowly but surely the water would come. i can relate to the 5 am bailouts
My buddies car broke down last night cause he was an idiot and tried to drive through water that was knee high. Of course his engine quit on him. So he called me at 3 am in the morning to go help him push it out. That sucked. When we got it out and let it sit for a bit, the engine would start, but the car wouldn't go over 5 mph.
Anyways, that's my storm story. Nothing like being woken up for a 3 am rescue mission
Coming back, even the level street portions were flooded. Didn't go back, because I didn't want to get stalled somewhere and compound my evening.
went off around midnight here in Kalamazoo. Grabbed the 4 kids and put them in the basement. Luckly we have a spare bed in the basement. They all slept through the storm while the wife and I were on the wireless laptop watching the weather reports. This was the first time that the satellite TV didn't work (because of the rain). No tornado's just a bunch of rain. Luckly, our house is a couple feet higher then our neighbors, so no water in the house at all. Our friend's had about 2 feet of water in their basement. Ouch....
just sirens all night ....
however i am not sure if i have ever seen it rain that hard for that long during the period of time between about 1:15-1:45 ... it was fun to watch to be honest
Novi/Northville area looks like the treepocalypse.
Friday night some large branches from the same tree fell on two of his cars parked in his driveway. The cars appeared undamaged. He also lost some large branches in his backyard. He was busy cutting and cleaning up all day yesterday. I was unscathed, other than having some very confused looking squirrels wandering around my yard.
Nothing really to report from Saturday. I lost power for 15 hours Saturday night through Sunday afternoon, but really nothing to complain about. My daughter's soccer wasn't cancelled Sunday, and most of Northville didn't look bad at all and I think most of Nortville did not lose power.
other than way too much water. My basement is drying out. At one point last night I did hear the tornado siren going off a few miles south in Manchester, but fortunately, they never got hit.
its going to rain here again shortly.
There's even a tornado watch in LI. The locals are freakin' out.
I thought this was going to be a metaphor for the 2010 football team. That's what happens when you no longer live in MI.
The funny thing about last night was that we were re-modeling our kitchen putting down a new floor, and didn't even hear of the tornado warning in Wayne County until after the storms had passed.
I was ok in Temperance (scared though). But my cousin's friend's grandfather's farm and house were destroyed in Dundee.
a surprise grad party for my wives friend saturday night in canton, mi... it rained hard for the majority of it and then at around 11pm the sirens started going off and then the take shelter announcements started about 10 mins later... i told my wife to finsh her beer and lets get going... i then procceded to make the scariest drive of my life up 275 to m-5 into commerce twp... it was raining so hard that i could barely see the lines on the hwy... people were driving like idiots, of course the jackasses in suvs thought they were invincible and doing 80, there was guy in a jag that was going back and forth acorss 2 lanes... and to top it off i have my wife yelling at me and telling me watch what i am doing and that i'm going to fast (i was doing 55)... no damage to speak of, just a lot of rain coming down to the point where my dogs wouldn't even go near the doorwall to go out...
When I checked in last, I was starting to feel like a whiny little beotch for complaining. But it WAS bad.
And Thanks for the sympathy from those who gave it, and sympathy to those others who need it. That was more my point...not woe is me, but a chance for everyone to unwind and recount their storm stories
I've never seen it rain so hard in AA. And I can remember the last time there were two ongoing tornado warnings (and since I'm on the south side of town, it's the closest I can remember the sightings being). I remember worse winds, many times (even during Tornado Warnings). But that hard of rain for that long....damn.
Anyway, self-indulgent update, took time off this morning, hit Meijer built a levee of dirt around that side of the house, tried planting shade friendly stuff around to absorb some of the rain in the future, and plopped down the cash for the expensive total shade grass seed and put it in between the houses and around the neighbors tree that was turning the path to mud rather than grass (the lawn was wet, but absorbed most of the standing rain). Because I think even a bigger problem than the standing pool by the house was the ankle high water between them...so even if I shoveled the water away, it was just filling back in.
Oh, and finally got the outdoor pump, just in case... ;-)
My son held his birthday party at Splash Universe on Saturday. We were out of there by 5:30 pm, though. The next morning several parents contacted me to comment on my good timing.
If we'd planned it for Sunday, we'd be looking for a Plan B. And if we'd done an overnight like I first proposed, we would have spent the night in the Dundee Middle School.
