OT: UPDATE:****Need Prayers

Submitted by Ball Hawk on

My wife is at University of Michigan hospital about to have brain surgery at 2pm today. As im sitting here with her in the preoperative room, my nerves are going crazy waiting for the doctor. She is a huge football fan and she is connected to Michigan football through Facebook. So she usually informs me on recruiting if I haven't read it on here. I just ask for prayers for her. We both have faith in the doctors here. She's having a shunt put in her head because of fluid built up and will not drain. This is the last option. She's a trooper and she just said Go Blue with a smile!

[ED: PGB - I took the liberty of awarding you 1,000,000 MGoPoints for the week - may they provide you sustinence during the tough road ahead in hopes that the Board might serve as an escape (a crappy escape but an escape nonetheless).  Keep us updated!]

Update: My wife just went into the recovery room and the doctor said that everything went well and that she will stay overnight and go home tomorrow. I just have to worry about infection for the next 3 months. Everything is draining well from the shunt. I immediately had tears rolling down my face and gave the doctor a big hug. She has been through so much as a 30yr old woman. She just wants her life back and I think she's heading down the right path. I guarantee that your prayers made a huge difference and I pray that none of you ever have to go through this with anyone that you love. You guys are really great for support and Michigan won a huge battle for me and my family today. Now for the issues about our football team. I love this blog for the reason that we all are on the same side and we wanna win very bad. Everyone has different opinions and only time will tell what will happen. We are all very frustrated and losing faith in coaches but I will pray for this team to turn it around like you all have for me. In the end we will return to winning big ten championships. Thank you all and GO BLUE!

Thoughts and prayers.  I have a niece who had a similar procedure done and my daughter had it done as well.  I've been told by neurologists that shunt placement to reduce hydrocephalus is one of the most common brain surgeries performed.  I'm sure you are in great hands and she will bounce back quick.

and just in time, to spend the last couple minutes in prayer for your dear wife prior to her surgery.  May the Good Lord guide those surgeons at U of M Hospital to do their very best work today.

Though by now it's likely too close to surgery to get this message to you, please, upon your wife waking up post-surgery, whisper "Go Blue" into her ear.  It's sure to get you the smile you deserve from her!

I think HE will be watching over your wife today.  And thank you for making a post about your situation.  Actually, this helps some of us understand more clearly there are far more important things in life than what has occurred on the football field the last few weeks.

My son had to have his skull reconstructed when he was 7 months old. Nothing compares to the agony of having a loved one go through something like this, even when the prognosis is great it is one of the most terrifying experiences you could imagine. I will be thinking and praying for you and your wife today.

...that your wife and yourself are dealing with this. It should put in perspective for the rest of us the things in life that are truly worth agonizing over.

I am pulling for you both and you are in my thoughts and prayers. She is at one of the best facilities, and I'm sure that they will do some great work for her.

I know this is taboo on the board, but I am glad that we can suspend the rules for a little bit to make sure our fellow U of M brother knows that he and his wife especially have so much support.  Prayers to you and your wife.

for you and your family in this tough time. I can't imagine what you must be going through but we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. I'll also hug my wife a little longer and tell her how much I love her, and I recommend everyone else do the same with their loved ones, because you never know when something will change your life forever.

Thank you so much for all of prayers. Im letting my 8yr old son read all of the comments and he is amazed how much people care. I had some down time think so I thought I would ask for your prayers. Its a 2hr procedure and im glad to read about others that went through the same thing. My family is all about Michigan and both of my boys attend three camps each during the summer and we as a family try to donate to Mott Childrens hospital. Its very humbling. The doctors name is Dr. Daniel Orringer and he reminds me of Doogie Howser. Anyway thanks for the Prayers and Go Blue!

There can't be anything worse than having to sit and wait for an outcome. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

to have the skill and knowledge to heal you wife's condition.  My uncle had a brain tumor the size of a tangerine removed at UM about 8 years ago and he is doing great at 82 years old now.

Have faith, He WILL provide!

Thank you for helping to put all of this football nonsense further into perspective. I came to the board to see how bad everything had become today, and happened to open your post. I know everyone uses football as an outlet from the real world, but sometimes it seems to trump real life and consume them. Stories like this quickly change that. I hope nothing but the best for you and your family. My thoughts are with you. Go Blue seems far to trivial. Instead, GO MRS. BALL HAWK!!!

Couldn't have a better team doing the surgery, if there's any place that she's safe, it's at the University of Michigan hospital! Even knowing that, the best of luck! This sort of thing makes things like football and firing Borges meaningless.

hold your wife in the palm of His hand, may he guide the doctors as they do their appointed tasks, and may your wife be blessed with an excellent result and a wonderful faith.
