Submitted by Doc Brown on

Scherzer is dealing as usual going for win number 17. Tigers up 6-0 after a yakety sax top of the third from the Indians.

Let's be honest, Cleveland is not exactly a happening city either. Detroit has at least some things to offer when there isn't a sporting event taking place. That Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest joke ever and the sports teams there haven't won a championship since the 50's. I'll take Detroit over Cleveland anyday.

Huh? Have you ever been to Cleveland besides driving by or peeking in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

I've lived in both downtown Detroit and downtown Cleveland.  Two years in fact while at Wayne State SOM, a year in the Warehouse District while a fellow at Cleveland Clinic.  There is a LOT more to do in downtown Cleveland than Detroit.  More and better restaurants, a lot of small festivals/fairs, and Cleveland Clinic is a medical juggernaut.

Detroit has made some strides with the Campus Martius development along Woodward; but there are still too many burned-out areas in between the stadiums, Campus Martius, Corktown, and the area near Wayne.

Lol.  I've eaten at just about every good restaurant in both cities.  Can you say the same?  The best restaurant in Michigan is the Lark, which is in West Bloomfield.  Tribute gave it a run for it's money, but was in Farmington Hills.

What is the best restaurant in downtown Detroit?  Michael Mina's place in the MGM, Saltwater?  Decent seafood, and the lobster pot pie is great.  Coach Insignia is ok; great view, but have had better steaks in numerous different places.  Have not been to Roast, but have been to both Lola and Lolita in Cleveland.  Slows, however, in Detroit is an institution.

My favorite in Cleveland is Crop (formerly of the Warehouse district, now moved to across the Westside Market) but Muse, Lola & Lolita are definitely better than anything in downtown Detroit, XO is around the same as Coach Insignia.

Maybe you should actually spend time in a place before shitting on it.

Excellent point. If Cleveland had better sports teams, it would be even better than Detroit. That is where you can compare cities, by saying, "Well there are no games going on, but there are still a lot of fun places to go." Cleveland has a lot more of that.

This is a joke. Cleveland has copious amounts of excellent and unique restaurants.

Also, the guy who compared the sports teams, well yeah, obviously Detroit has Cleveland there, but I was simply referring to the cities, so your point is moot.

I'll bet there are very few people (unbiased) who think Detroit is a better city than Cleveland.

Cleveland is a much better place to live than the city of Detroit. But I will take Detroit for a night out over Cleveland any day. Detroit has better restaurants, nicer stadiums, casinos, some good festivals in Hart Plaza...bars and clubs. You got me on the Cleveland Clinic though lol..why the hell would you list that under things to do in a city I have no clue. But if I want a madical juggernaught I can drive 35 minutes to UofM mediical center.

Cleveland has a casino (have not ever been since it opened after we left).  When we gamble in Detroit, MGM is the place to go.

I'm really curious, though, as to where all these good restaurants in downtown Detroit are.  Sweetwaters, Majestic, Traffic Jam & Snug, Greekblock, Slows and Nemos in Corktown...Roma Cafe is pretty good in Eastern Market.  That's pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head.  My fam says Roast is pretty good, but again, opened after I left.

I liked Seldom Blues before it shut down, Coach Insignia is probably the fanciest place in downtown left...Opus One was great before they became a high-end catering place.

Again, what the hell does that have to do with the cities of Cleveland and Detroit? I wasn't comparing teams in my first post, but some people turned it into that, which tells me one thing, that being the fact that they know Cleveland is a better city than Detroit. The fact that Detroit is bankrupt is further proof.

But, that's really doesn't say much. I have a few military fiends who were in Iraq for the war about 10 years ago. One of whom was originally from Hamtramick. They said that it wasn't that bad and that they would rather livee in Baghdad than Detroit.

So, to Cleveland. Congrats, you have a better city than Baghdad.

Anybody else getting bored? I know I shouldn't be feeling this, but rather enjoying it. I am serious, though.

Tigers could sweep the 4 game series at Cleveland on the same day that Michigan beats Ohio on a walkoff homer in the Little League World Series. Solid day for the good guys.

So what's up with Wolverines Dominate downvoting Tigers threads?  U mad bro?  Tribe fan?

I, for one, am not bored.  I love this.  It's hilarious.  I love the quietness of the Jake, I love the dugout laughing it up at every little thing, and I love the pure domination of a team from Ohio.

Fifty pitches into this start, Scherzer now has 4 K's, 35 strikes and 15 balls. Not a bad ratio at all really. I believe that Tigers have already given Scherzer better than average run support. This sets up well for the evening, I would think.

It was nice for the Tigers to put up so many runs early, so I could take my bike ride on Duluth's lakefront worry-free.

Imagine my surprise to see Bill Martin's gorgeous yacht "Stripes" moored in the Harbor. I'm posing from 10 feet off of its left beam.

Interesting how in the last couple of years, Leyland's teams have changed tendency: instead of dominating the first half of the season and then falling apart and barely hanging on down the stretch, now they seem to be so-so in the first half and totally take over in the second.  I'll take that trade.

I forgot how fun it is to cheer for a team that never loses.   This is good stuff.
