are really creepy. |
| 5 days 23 hours ago | Let's see |
The player renderings in the game look exactly the same as previous iterations. The ratings are dumbfounding as usual. And the lemmings will continue to dish out $60 for this rubbish. Good job; Good effort, guys. Go play a real EA game like FIFA instead. This franchise checked out a long, long time ago.
(PS: I too am a huge fan of the 06 NCAA soundtrack. Good call.) |
| 1 week 6 days ago | You are correct, sir |
And really, if we haven't been so logjammed with second-tier wingers, he would have been up by now. Hell, he might have been up 2 years ago on some of the crappier teams in the NHL. He's a damn good prospect. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | Yes |
Nyquist and Anderson were both eligible. And it was indeed a ridiculous talent boost. They were losing that series before they got there. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | Yep |
Nyquist and Anderson are shoo-in full timers in Detroit next year. Tatar should be as well. Guys like Sheahan and Ferraro (boy has he turned it around) have outside shots. Calle Jarnkrok, who had a 9 game stint with the Griffins not too long ago, has been hailed as the best Swede import since Zetterberg - and indeed he has broken a lot of his SEL rookie records. He could make the big club straight out of camp next year, though he'll most likely stick with the Griffins. And I believe Martin Frk will join the Griffins next year as well. The Vowel-less Wonder just finished up a Memorial Cup run averaging 2 PPG(!!!) in which his team basically raped and pillaged the entire junior hockey world. I think they went 77-8-5 or something crazy like that. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | People should pay attention to the Grifs |
Detroit's prospect pool has become pretty deep the past few years, and a lot of these guys in GR may very well be in Red Wings uniforms next year. Take notice of the job our scouting has done, guys. With no early picks, we've managed to put together a farm system that's ranked near the top of the league. Seriously. Here's a juicy tidbit for ya: 4 different defenseman prospects in the Wings system won their leagues respect Defenseman of the Year trophys - and one of them, Ryan Sproul, was the OHL Defenseman of the Year. Take a look at the past winners of that trophy. That is a definitively Big Deal. So for all of us who are clamoring for more help - be patient. The future is looking very, very bright for Detroit. This so-called rebuilding phase is about to be usurped by another era of outstanding homegrown talent. |

Eden Hazard is a tremendous little bitch, and has been for years now. He fits right in at Chelsea. |

| 29 weeks 3 days ago | "Yes I went this far.." |
Ah, nothing like the sweet smell of seeping douche in the afternoon. Went this far? You're a disgruntled fan complaining about playcalling after a loss on an internet message board. Taking a step outside right now without a t-shirt is more courageous. Bravo. |
| 31 weeks 3 days ago | The fact that you let stuff like this |
upset you, is just so damn disappointing. And embarrassing, quite frankly. Step away from the computer, breathe the fresh air outside, and let the 18-22 year olds celebrate however the fuck they want. |
| 47 weeks 1 day ago | Er |
You took the minor point I made and drove it off a cliff, but alright? |
| 47 weeks 2 days ago | Wasn't so hot against Rodgers and Brees? |
You don't say! A little brevity is important here. profootballfocus, which examines and grades players on a per-play basis, had Berry ranked as one of the few CBs in the league with a positive coverage rating. Regardless of what you may think, the evidence shows he is - at the very least - NOT a bad cornerback. The Lions are in desperate need of guys in the secondary who don't suck. As it stands, they've got two average guys(Houston, Delmas) and a whole lot of To Be Determined's. |
| 47 weeks 2 days ago | Big blow for the Lions |
Personal conduct aside, this a huge hit for the Lions' secondary. Berry was far better than most will give him credit for here - he was Detroit's best CB on a per-play basis, and looked to possess some Pro Bowl potential with a full season of starting under his belt. One of those mid-round picks really needs to pan out. And soon. |

This dude has it: I'm done. THROUGH with Penn State. Our leaders have failed us. The Freeh report was all conjecture, and there is damn near nothing to tie Joe Paterno or the athletic department in with this entire mess. Yet, our leaders accepted it without even bothering to READ it first. And they’re going to blindly accept these NCAA sanctions. And they continue to let Joe Paterno be the main scapegoat here. What is going on? Its one thing for the media to rush to judgement, but our own leaders? This DOES smell like a cover-up, but not one by Paterno. No, this is a TRUE cover-up by the Board of Trustees. They are more than willing to make this a “football scandal” so nobody digs deeper into the REAL scandal. This is not a failure of a football culture, this is a POLITICAL scandal. Where is the investigation into the relationship between the Board of Trustees, Harrisburg and The Second Mile? MILLIONS in campaign donations and state grants were exchanged between the Second Mile, politicians and key Board members – THAT is the scandal and THAT is what the Board doesn’t want to come out. And THAT is why they allow the football team to be the scapegoat. The Board of Trustees has something to hide. And I will NOT be a part of my alma mater again until they are all removed from those positions. |

But I do see us near the top of that list and I will overreact accordingly. |
| 47 weeks 5 days ago | So the game still sucks, basically |
I'll focus on EAs much better FIFA and NHL franchises yet again, I suppose. I've been dying to get back into football for years, but EA continues to shit out absolute dogshit with their NCAA and Madden lineups. |

Let's give this man his due, he is the only reason IU has been relevant in football in years. |

| 49 weeks 4 days ago | As a Gunners fan |
I sure hope they're not after Dempsey, and it appears they're not - thankfully. He's a great player, sure, but Arsenal needs to have bigger aspirations and signing a 29 year old forward/mid tweener without great pace isn't a need. He doesn't really fit in their 4-3-3. I do hope Deuce plays CL football somewhere, though. |
| 50 weeks 2 days ago | Land Suter |
and regardless of whatever else happens, the offseason is an A+. It'd be nice to land Parise, but that's not happening, and I don't like the price tag for a guy like Nash (huge contract hit, loss of really good young prospects, locked up until 2018). If a guy like Bobby Ryan is available, he might be worth the gamble - but I'm content with staying put up front and letting our farm system grow. And if we can flip Franzen for someone, that'd be fine by me too. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Since you're |
admittedly ignorant about prospects in the Wings system, how do you know we don't have such players being developed? I and another guy have already directed you towards a plethora of kids who are projected to be top-line players in the NHL - certainly on par with a scrub like Wolski. My guess is you have not researched this very thoroughly, and are thus banking on the results produced by prodigies like Crosby and Stastny to support your argument. It's weak sauce, dude. By and large, players who are 21 in the NHL are extremely raw and hurt the teams they're playing for - even if they're producing points at a decent clip. This isn't rocket science - playing guys that young doesn't prove anything about your organizational depth, it often just means your desperate. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Really, dude? |
That's your angle? Well I'm sorry, but you're not gonna find Anze Kopitar or Ilya Kovalchuk in our farm system. Or any farm system, save for them team lucky enough to pick 1st overall. And newsflash: Hall-of-Famers on your second line don't exist anymore. This is 2012, not 2002 - you'll be lucky to have one on your whole roster. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | I'm sorry, you're wrong |
The Red Wings obviously don't have the high-draft picks to nurture the blueiest blue-chip prospects, but they have a substantial amount of kids on the farm who project as All-star caliber if things go right with them. Your point about the Red Wings playing their veterans is irrelevant - the majority of our prospects are under 21 years old and are in no way ready for the NHL. Teams that DO play prospects so young are also the ones you usually see picking at the top of the draft again the next season. And for the record: Datsyuk emerged as a 23 year old after playing in Russia's highest league, Zetterberg emerged as a 22 year old coming out of the Swedish Elite League(the best league outside of the NHL), and Franzen was DRAFTED as a 24 year old before emerging at 26. It's worth noting that 2 of those 3 guys are some of the best forwardsin NHL history, and using them as a barometer to measure our young talent isn't all that fair. So you're overreaching a bit here - the only guys in our farm system over the age of 22 are Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist(I'll exclude Mursak since he's already graduated and seeing regular minutes) - both of whom are(SUPRISE!) ranked as top-notch prospects by every recruiting publication and seem poised to play fulltime next season. Ipso facto - right on schedule. Meanwhile.. -weve currently got Calle Jarnkok rewriting the record books Zetterberg penned in the SEL - as a 20 year old! -Tatar has owned the AHL as a 20-21 year old. Sheahan is making the jump in his year-21. Joakim Anderrson is a bit overaged, but expect him to be manning Detroit's checking line soon. -Tomas Jurco is currently eviscerating all comers in the QMJHL. -Ditto defensemen Xavier Oullet and Ryan Sproul(OHL) -I havent even mentioned Petr Mrazek, who may be our best goalie prospect...ever. And there's a host of others all doing VERY well in their respective minor league division and they're ALL under 21. The organization is flowing smoothly, folks. I'd recommend following this website for more regular info on your future Wings: http://www.redwingscentral.com/2012/05/29/2700/expect-multiple-grads-from-competitive-top-11/ |
| 1 year 1 week ago | I like your thinking |
The truth is a lot of the success we see from other teams is a direct by-product of nits they picked from our philosophy. I'm very excited to see what the young guys coming up in our organization will do. If guys like Suter and Parise are out there, go after them - but I'd rather not spend 2 or 3 million on a guy whose only advantage over our current crop on the farm is their NHL experience. Detroit is brimming with talent in Grand Rapids and the minors. Given time, this 20 year dynasty we've seen could be extended to 40. Holland knows that, and I'm excited to see what happens. And let's be honest, the Stanley Cup Finalists are nothing to emulate - the Kings were in the bottom 5 of the league in scoring all year long and scraped into the playoffs. Funny shit happens in a best-of-7 series. That's all you can take from that. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | I've come to the conclusion |
99% of Red Wings fans are miserable failures at life, as evidenced by their same tired argument of "needing to get tougher" and all sorts of ridiculous roster ideas in the wake of a playoff exit. The Red Wings are fine, the farm system is awesome, and no - they're never going to get as tough as you like. They play hockey, and they're one of the best at it. Sometimes you win, sometimes you dont. The job Holland, Babock and co. have done since the lockout has been remarkable - just look at the roster in 06 compared to now. The parts are constantly shifting, but the priorities remain the same and the results always show the Wings at the top of the league. Now let's get back to talking about Alexander Semin as a possible replacement for Nick Lidstrom. What a tremendous idea. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Who the F cares? |
It's recruiting. It's kids were talking about. Some will be goodt, some wont be, others will fade away into oblivion and make you feel like asshats for caring so much about their star ratings in the first place. If you think this kid is "taking up a scholarship," well, go fuck yourself - suddenly you're an expert on the proper make up of a football team? And insulting the kids worth in the process? We get it. You all think long snappers are easy to coach up. Hoke and co. obviously think this kid is a gem and he's worth their attention - and they're clearly not excited about any of the other hopefuls on the roster once Glanda leaves. I've already said more than I should. None of you should care so much about how recruiting scholarships and priorities are allocated. Welcome aboard, Scott. All of us could have only hoped to have been as smart as you as a 17 year old - turning your unique talent into a full-ride scholarship, avoiding a lifetime of what-ifs about your overrated athletic ability and developing a penchant for posting on Michigan message boards begging for MOAR OMG SHIRTLESS recruits. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Was gonna post a seperate thread |
for this, but I figure the mGo community has a strict one-futbol post limit on the main page. But Shinji Kagawa is officially off to ManU for a reported 18 mil. Though I'm not a Devils fan, Borussia Dortmund is my de facto second-team and Kagawa was brilliant the past two years in Germany. Not enough has been made about how good that Dortmund side was this season, and Shinji was the catalyst. His creativity is endless and his passes are smart and always on target. Rooney is going to love this guy, and he can now act as more of a striker and let Kagawa take care of the midfield dirty work. Considering Hazard was sold to Chelsea for about 3 times that, SAF got himself a steal. He'll be a household name this time next year. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | England's terrible |
I hate to speak in absolutes, but the team has no hope or creativity up front, and their central defense is terrible. I truly think England will return to form in '14(Kyle Walker, Phil Jones, The Ox, Wilshere and a host of others should all be world-class by then), but until then they're stuck with a stodgy bunch lacking creativity. I mean, cmon, Steven Gerrard is starting for them - in 2012! Germany and Spain are by far the favorites, but don't be surprised to see Greece or Russia make some noise coming out of an easy group - and Italy is better than some think. They have a chance to steal one right off the bat from a Spanish side that hasn't played a whole lot together. No such problem for the Azzuri, and their refreshingly creative-minded head coach has a lot of toys at his disposal.

| 1 year 2 weeks ago | Really excited about this kid |
Concerns about his ability to cover can be extrapolated to 90% of LBs in the NFL today - it's something very few LBs ever actually end up being good at. He's instinctive? He's a ridiculously efficient tackler? Sign me up. There's guys like Ross, and there's guys like former FSU 5-star commit Nigel Bradham, who got ranked as a 5-star solely because he gave rivals pundits boners with his size and bodybuilder physique. Talk to any FSU fan today and you wont hear very nice things about Mr. Bradham. Give me a guy whose best attribute is his ability to actually play football, I dont give a crap about size. |
