Let's see what he can do.
I loved his remark when informed he was the first Michigan (or for that matter American) born coach of the Red Wings: "I didn't know that. What took so long?"
hope he does well. Please, please, please don't be Dave Lewis 2.0.
I don't think it's completely fair to crap on Lewis when both of his teams lost to the eventual Stanley Cup runner-up, who lost in seven games of the finals. Both Giguere and Kiprusoff were amazing. I think we lost each game in both of those series by one goal. Maybe if we still had Hasek instead of Cujo, we win those series.
He also had a pretty tough act to follow. Always thought Dave Lewis did get a bad rap...yes he still had an insanely talented team, but CuJo was not good in his stint here.
Blashill also has a pretty tough act to follow. They're not coming off a cup or anything, but Babcock is a damn good coach.
I understand your sentiment and didn't mean to "crap" on Lewis. Just pointing out that it is a similar situation to Lewis and in the end it didn't take the Wings long to figure out that Lewis wasn't working out.
But how do you say this guy's name? Is it Bla-shill or Blas-hill?
You are supposed to replace all vowels with more Ls.
So it's pronounced "Blllshllll"
..and with that transformation, we can see again that with the addition of a few extra L's, you can make almost any name at least appear Welsh.
All that is missing now is to change his first name to "Ellis" or "Evan" or something at least vaguely of Welsh origin and the metamorphosis is complete.
I think. I could be wrong, though.
Pretty sure it's like Bla-Shull
Awful big shoes to fill when you look at the resumes of the previous 2 coaches.
I forgot about Lewis. Skipped to Bowman.
How will Zach Smith respond to that graphic?
A 41 year old coach would have been younger than some of the players a few years ago. The Wings have so many youngsters on the roster now, I think this will be a good hire.
Other than his name being spelled incorrectly, I am excited for the Jeff Blashill era.
Nice resume. Hopefully they can get a good decade out of Blashill like they did with Babcock and Bowman.
joining his staff.
I'm OK with this as long as the restaurant doesn't suffer. (He is the cook, right?)
It looks like a nice hire; hopefully it'll work out. The team definitely needed a change of pace.
Outside of Babcock and a few other coaches, Blashill is as good a hire you can make for any team in any situation. He's a true coaching stud, and someone the Red Wings have been keen to lock up. If Babcock didnt move on, Blashill would be coaching another NHL team right now.
He's had enormous success in Grand Rapids, and he has a very high level of familiarity with much of this team. Combine that with our Top 5 farm system, and I'm super excited about the future of the Wings.
Could he be the first Red Wings coach to be scientifically proven to suck more than a funnel, sieve, vacuum, and blackhole?
