Like anything else, it depends what you eat.  If you eat a lot of carbs, which is easy to do as a vegan, that will jack your insulin levels.  Insulin is a fat storage hormone, so whatever your diet, if your insulin is high you will always have extra pounds.

RIP meatloaf, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is a great song.

Some obituary headline this morning (NYT?) referred to him as "beloved." Really?

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I always just associated him with campy rock, not as anyone actually adored or even admired.

I was a Freshman at Central Michigan (went there one year & transfered) when both Van Halen I and Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell were released.  There was a little record store there that me and a couple of guys from the dorm (Robinson) used to go to almost every day.  I'm pretty sure VH I was released first and was the most amazing album I had ever heard.   Then we saw the Meatloaf album cover and figured this just HAS to be even more amazing given how bad ass it was.

Needless to say the music on Bat out of Hell didnt exactly match up to the cover.  Nice album if you're into that type of sound but definitely NOT VH I for rocking out.

RIP Meatloaf.

It's definitely a function of place and time.  Mr. Loaf's grooves (lyrics and structure) were way out of the box vs the disco dreck and the formulaic method of song composition used by lots of his contemporaries. BooH had singable songs that were relatable to high school honrdogs (Paradise) and grizzled veterans of imperfect relationships (2 out of 3).

Im just glad he was finally able to let Jack Black free of his religious clutches and follow his dream of rocking with the D.

Jokes aside loved his theatrics and voice, rip !

Paradise by the dashboard lights. My youth anthem. Devastated. RIP my good man, that song brought me so many tangible blessings and was acted out on the dance floor with much laughter many times here at UM. This just sucks.

Aww, man.  Bat Out of Hell was a great album, and the video for Paradise By the Dashboard Lights was awesome. Truly a unique performer.  May he see paradise by the dashboard lights.

A little tangential Meatloaf trivia: the singer Karla DeVito, who was the female in the video of "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights", is married to former 1970's teen heartthrob Robby Benson. My husband's best friend from childhood lives in LA and is good friends with them. I can't imagine having Robby Benson and Karla DeVito over for dinner. They're practically a cultural phenomenon in and of themselves.
