OT: Poor damn Joe Milton
Sorry-not-sorry to kick the man when he's down, but . . .
Stop what you are doing, go on Twitter, search "Joe Milton," and scroll through the top Tweets. I am rolling. The best have GIFs and videos, but here's some of the best of the rest.

Starting to think he wasn't aiming for that planet in his Michigan commitment video.

Hilarious.

He’s giving uncle Rico a run for his money.

The Fox TV crew can kiss my ass

Sounds like they need a Tacopants!
September 13th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
Milton was flat out bad on Saturday before he got hurt. He was missing wide open receivers by 5-10 yards
September 13th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
On his show with Sam Webb, fwiw, Devin Gardner flat-out said Milton's injury was fake and just an excuse to save face.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:51 PM ^
Yah, I heard that too. Which game and what injury was it?
September 13th, 2021 at 6:14 PM ^
There are several qualities that you look for in a QB, arm strength, mobility, intelligence (reading defenses etc.), grace under pressure, and accuracy among them. You can't get by on accuracy alone, but the lack of same, more than any of the others, will make success impossible.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
I mean, if you look at some of the quotes from his "Hello" post, it's the same problems and he hasn't progressed one bit since HS at both Michigan and now Tennessee.
Areas of Improvement: Can be erratic with his accuracy
... he also struggled timing up with his receivers and putting touch on some throws that needed it.
... if he can't refine his accuracy, he could struggle to see the field.
September 14th, 2021 at 1:33 AM ^
An inadvertent and funny double entendre here: “he could struggle to see the field”.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:17 PM ^
Devin Gardner was like, dude can't see. Wonder if his eye sight is a bit off or maybe he's perfect in practice.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:34 PM ^
I think there are some players who are practice players. I get the feeling Milton is one of them. Won quarterback battles at two schools and was terrible on the field.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:50 PM ^
Maybe the eye test Has something to do with it. People can be superficial and he looks the strapping big armed QB.
September 14th, 2021 at 1:04 AM ^
Right. He might need to have his eyes tested if he’s missing receivers by that much. Worked for Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn in Major League.

I think he actually may have said something like he can throw but he cannot see, which I thought was a great comment. And pretty much felt that he will never see.
Didn't Devin tutor him privately?
September 13th, 2021 at 7:18 PM ^
Yeah, interesting to reread these. Giles Jackson commented that he launched a 70 yd pass past him in the article. Unfortunately he's not found a receiver 10ft tall and faster than bolt to catch his overthrown.

Didn't it take UM 3 years to realize Daryl Stonum needed glasses? They should definitely do eye exams on QB's and receivers.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:59 PM ^
It was Roy Roundtree, I think.
September 13th, 2021 at 10:43 PM ^
According to the MGoArchives, we may both be right.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:29 PM ^
Those last two made me laugh out loud.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:30 PM ^
Not specifically to add to the Milton bashing, but those who didn’t watch the “Devin Gardener on with Sam Webb” video from earlier today might be interested to hear what Devin had to say about Milton. Basically “he’s done. Has the arm but can’t see the field at all. And something about a fake-injury”. This was from during the commercial breaks — Devin may need to remember that it is still being streamed!
September 13th, 2021 at 8:49 PM ^
Didn't Sam say that Milton was being trained by Gardener prior to last season? If so, obviously Gardener's tutelage has now failed Joe at 2 locations.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:56 PM ^
Or maybe Milton failed on his own despite support from Michigan and Devin.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:31 PM ^
hilarious thread on vols forum. the OP says the best Tennessee QB is their next one, grad Xfer or recruit. Clearly their fanbase is not on the Milton train. one guy calling him the worst QB in the SEC below Vandy’s and SC’s.

September 13th, 2021 at 7:43 PM ^
From that thread on VolNation:
"UT is pretty much out of consideration for any highly rated pro style qb. We are now locked into an offense that will not be successful on a consistent basis in the SEC."
I don't think the "What the hell is offense anyway?" scheme has been successful anywhere actually, but Tennessee is very adept at acquiring the personnel for it.
September 14th, 2021 at 6:44 AM ^
We tried it on and off for a good part of the Hoke era. It was...not pleasing.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:55 PM ^
I hate to be the lone dissenter but I thought the first one was the worst.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:36 PM ^
Wish the kid the best, but he cant play QB
Move to TE and play in the pros
September 13th, 2021 at 7:13 PM ^
He actually reminds me a lot of Logan Thomas both physically and as a QB. Thomas has made one heck of a transition to TE
September 13th, 2021 at 7:19 PM ^
4.8 in the 40, so he's got the speed for it assuming he can block, run routes, and catch.
September 13th, 2021 at 9:15 PM ^
Not likely.
September 13th, 2021 at 10:47 PM ^
He is not physically tough enough to play tight end in D1 football. He turns his shoulder to the hit.
September 14th, 2021 at 7:27 AM ^
Always and I mean always hits the LOS tentatively when running the ball if there is any hint of a defender there. Turns sideways to avoid being hit. That's why at 6'5" 244 he can't get you a yard on 4th and 1 with a QB sneak.
To soft to play TE.
September 14th, 2021 at 4:33 PM ^
The strange part is hits typically don’t hurt if square up and drive through it. He sets himself up to get hurt.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:37 PM ^
I feel badly for him. He's a kid who's been told he's D1 material and he's trusted all those people, especially the ones who told him they'd help him develop. And what else sucks? Realizing you're not as good as everyone said you were.
September 14th, 2021 at 1:12 AM ^
Though the jokes are funny and I am a guilty party as well, I feel badly for the kid. It’s cruelly ironic that he has all the physical tools but not the intangibles of touch and feel for the game.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
Makes you wonder about our offensive coaching. This was the guy we wanted coming out of the gates last year?
September 13th, 2021 at 6:59 PM ^
He fooled two P5 teams in two years. Clearly, a practice All-American.
September 13th, 2021 at 6:57 PM ^
This thread has links to the overthrows if anyone is interested.

Those overthrows were gut wrenching. UT should've been up 21-0 and running away with the win.
September 13th, 2021 at 8:05 PM ^
Huepel is unhappy. Hooker is the likely starter here on out.
September 13th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
Wow. All bad, but that 5th one was just brutal.
September 13th, 2021 at 7:35 PM ^
Wow, I didn’t realize how bad he was before getting hurt Saturday. Several of those throws reminded me of his last throw as a Wolverine (an out that he sailed 5 yards over Ronnie Bell’s head)…
I wish the kid luck but he did bash the program and staff in a pre-season interview (something about treating players like robots) - not a good look
September 13th, 2021 at 8:23 PM ^
Yikes, that’s like 3-4 TDs he missed, the fifth one was so bad.
September 13th, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
Ok, yeah that last one is funny-not funny-but definitely very funny.
I guess Milton and Giles J aren't fairing so well in their new environs...
September 13th, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
Those are pretty funny. It didn’t take Tennessee fans long to figure him out
September 13th, 2021 at 7:24 PM ^
In a way I feel sorry for Milton because he is a kid who has all of the tools but just can't seem to put it all together. In other ways, I've read a couple of articles talking about how Michigan is going to regret letting Milton get away and how under a real program, the coaching staff will unlock his talent. Hey when you are passed over, everyone's dream is to come back and make them pay. I get that and if Milton was lighting up the world, you better believe that the Harbaugh haters would be ringing the Milton bell every chance they could. In one positive development, maybe the Milton was playing with an injury crowd can bury that conspiracy now.
Milton earned his degree. He is a Michigan man. I thought Tennessee was a bad fit for him and felt he would have been better at a MAC school where the pressure wasn't as great and he had the years to play through his inconsistencies. But he came into the NCAA with Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence and I am sure those internal comparisons weighed on him.
I am curious if Milton is going to stick with QB and look to switch positions and have a NFL career.

Little Freudian slip there with the “passed over” phrasing…
