OT: Friday Open Thread - Whatcha working on today? Posbang anyone?

Submitted by profitgoblue on

So it looks like this might be a regular off-season thread since each of the last three Fridays I've wanted to jump out of my window here at work to put myself out of misery.

Whatcha working on today?  Any good or interesting plans for the weekend?

Me, I've got the monumental task of figuring out what to get profitgowife for Mother's Day and trying to negotiate a confidentiality agreement with an a--hole lawyer on the other side.  This weekend is filled with kids stuff, including a toddler birthday party at a playground tomorrow.  Actually, a pretty nice little Saturday.  We might make a trip to Home Depot.  Maybe Bed Bath & Beyond.  I don't know.  I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Entertaining the mother-in-law for the weekend.  She just arrived in town this morning and is staying until Tuesday afternoon.  So when I come home from work today, I'll make sure to hear about what is the latest controversy on cable news.

I could hit my mother-in-law's apartment with a baseball from my front porch (ironically, she still drives when she comes over).  I feel for you but be glad it's just for the weekend.

It's been better since I stopped trying to figure out what makes her tick.  I've decided she has a hamster on a wheel in her head that may or may not be dead.  My new standing rule is that I don't care how badly she messes up her life as long as she doesn't ask to borrow (more) money from us and she doesn't throw her considerable weight around too much regarding my wife. Boundaries my friend, boundaries.

You should go jogging through the quad and down by the gymnasium. Blow off some steam big cat. I am having a huge party, and you're coming with. You think I am going to roll out this kind of red carpet for a student alt rock band?

Just returned from lunch to see I missed a call from my son's school, probably because he's not feeling well and wants to come home.  Oops.  Awaiting a callback to see what's up.

Otherwise, i am reading stuff like this and feeling embarrassed to be in academe: The nature of the parametric design produces a multi-variant state of many possibilities produced from sets of rules, limits, or constraints under the influence of time but forged in physical space under the criteria of design selection based upon a particular moment of consideration. One particular moment out of many wherein the differentiating factor is one of modulating frequency, variation, and amplitude of a control surface by design intent.

I've finished my regular work for the day, so it's time to break out the project that's been dragging on for months now - creation of a departmental operating manual.  I like to be absolutely tedious with these things, so it's taking quite a bit of time.

This weekend: Breaking Bad season 2 (and maybe 3), hopefully finalizing my housing in AA for next year, and some good beers.

Mmmm.  Step 1.

No pressure...not a big deal...ITS JUST THE TEST THAT WILL DETERMINE YOUR SPECIALTY, INCOME, AND FUTURE HAPPINESS.  DON'T YOU WANT TO NIGHT HAWK FROM HAWAII WITH A DRINK IN YOUR HAND, BATHING IN GOLD DOUBLOONS???

Did that help? 8D

I just built a new computer, and will be taking it for a test run. I will be taking to the skies in my trusty 109. Tommy will be short a few Spitfires after today.

I am just finishing We, a dystopian novel written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921.  He is Russian and wrote it after he became discouraged with the path of the Soviet Union after the Bolshevik Revolution.  This book was a tremendous influence on some more well-known dystopian novels (Brave New World, 1984, etc.) as well as the science fiction genre.

I enjoy dystopian novels, but think its a great read overall.

That reminds me of "Flyboys" - the story of Iwo Jima and Chichi Jima from both the American and Japanese perspectives.  It really focused on a few individuals from each side - how they grew up, joined the military at a time of war, and were thrown into this completely bizarre and incredible situation (at the beginning of the war, nobody had any idea how to fight a war that took place over thousands of miles of water).

Getting ready to put in a night shift at the resturant. The summer of a poor college student... But for now I can sit back and watch last nights episode of the office, accompanied by this plate of nachos.

I'm coming to Ann Arbor tonight! So stoked, I haven't been back from Cleveland in a few months.

My mom is graduating from Spring Arbor tomorrow, so I'll also be attending her commencement ceremony, and getting some steak at Lelli's in Detroit. Should be a great weekend.

In one hour I will be heading home, stopping by the feed mill to pick up dog food, mulching flower beds, and drinking Founders Dirty Bastard. Thanks to all who have recommended Founders, you are not wrong.

I don't normally endorse stores, but I live in central Ohio (yes that Ohio) and Giant Eagle carries 3 varieties of Founders and Bells Oberon.  I don't know where you are located, but it might be worth a try.

It's easy enough to find here in Cleveland. I just miss the atmosphere of the bar itself. One of the better brewery experiences that I know of. Great Lakes Brewing Co. is a worthy replacement, and I've heard Thirsty Dog is fun too, but man do I miss Founders.

GLBC is actually in Ohio City. It's a really great location, right across the street from another, relatively new microbrewery/restaurant called Market Garden, and just a couple doors down from a highly recommended beligan beer emporium called McNulty's Bier Markt, which I think anyone who loves belgians should check out at some point in their lives. You can go wrong with a night in Ohio City.

Just finished with my last patient, only 45 mintues behind.  Still have every patient to dictate.

Instead of my planned margaritas, I am going to have ice cold Jose white.  In a mug!

The best pizza ever, a bold claim but it's freaking amazing!!!  Sorry about the stitches, you've probably figured it out by now but there's a pretty decent hospital in Cheboygan.
