OT: Friday Open Thread - Whatcha working on today? Posbang anyone?
So it looks like this might be a regular off-season thread since each of the last three Fridays I've wanted to jump out of my window here at work to put myself out of misery.
Whatcha working on today? Any good or interesting plans for the weekend?
Me, I've got the monumental task of figuring out what to get profitgowife for Mother's Day and trying to negotiate a confidentiality agreement with an a--hole lawyer on the other side. This weekend is filled with kids stuff, including a toddler birthday party at a playground tomorrow. Actually, a pretty nice little Saturday. We might make a trip to Home Depot. Maybe Bed Bath & Beyond. I don't know. I don't know if we'll have enough time.
for some reason I'm stuck in "pending approval" limbo.
Thanks for pointing that out. You and about 15 others were pending. All approved now.
I'll keep an eye out from now on.
Entertaining the mother-in-law for the weekend. She just arrived in town this morning and is staying until Tuesday afternoon. So when I come home from work today, I'll make sure to hear about what is the latest controversy on cable news.
God Bless you sir, keep fighting the good fight.
thanks for taking her off my hands this weekend. Might wanna hit the grocery store on your way home - Mohawk vodka and cheese curds.
I could hit my mother-in-law's apartment with a baseball from my front porch (ironically, she still drives when she comes over). I feel for you but be glad it's just for the weekend.
I may be entering that scenario in the near future. Is it bearable?
It's been better since I stopped trying to figure out what makes her tick. I've decided she has a hamster on a wheel in her head that may or may not be dead. My new standing rule is that I don't care how badly she messes up her life as long as she doesn't ask to borrow (more) money from us and she doesn't throw her considerable weight around too much regarding my wife. Boundaries my friend, boundaries.
You seem to be a very interesting and intelligent person. Also, can I steal that dead hamster on a wheel analogy? Its gold, Jerry. Gold.
Just returned from lunch to see I missed a call from my son's school, probably because he's not feeling well and wants to come home. Oops. Awaiting a callback to see what's up.
Otherwise, i am reading stuff like this and feeling embarrassed to be in academe: The nature of the parametric design produces a multi-variant state of many possibilities produced from sets of rules, limits, or constraints under the influence of time but forged in physical space under the criteria of design selection based upon a particular moment of consideration. One particular moment out of many wherein the differentiating factor is one of modulating frequency, variation, and amplitude of a control surface by design intent.
I've finished my regular work for the day, so it's time to break out the project that's been dragging on for months now - creation of a departmental operating manual. I like to be absolutely tedious with these things, so it's taking quite a bit of time.
This weekend: Breaking Bad season 2 (and maybe 3), hopefully finalizing my housing in AA for next year, and some good beers.
for this pesky exam called USMLE step 1.
Mmmm. Step 1.
No pressure...not a big deal...ITS JUST THE TEST THAT WILL DETERMINE YOUR SPECIALTY, INCOME, AND FUTURE HAPPINESS. DON'T YOU WANT TO NIGHT HAWK FROM HAWAII WITH A DRINK IN YOUR HAND, BATHING IN GOLD DOUBLOONS???
Did that help? 8D
I just built a new computer, and will be taking it for a test run. I will be taking to the skies in my trusty 109. Tommy will be short a few Spitfires after today.
That's pretty cool VA. Wouldn't mind seeing some pics.
on my foot last Friday - been told to stay away from work for a week. Going to sit in the back yard and read a book.....supposed to be 75 today........I am suffering, poor me (he he)
I'm in between books and looking for suggestions.
Have you read Count of Monte Cristo? You probably have but I just re-read and its probably the best book I've ever read.
But Iiked the play, so maybe that's not a bad idea. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and I'm basically looking for anything other than another marriage book.
You gotta read it. The movie Shawshank Redemption is based on that book but, of course, the book is 1000 times better (and I loved Shawshank). Read it. STAT.
I am just finishing We, a dystopian novel written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1921. He is Russian and wrote it after he became discouraged with the path of the Soviet Union after the Bolshevik Revolution. This book was a tremendous influence on some more well-known dystopian novels (Brave New World, 1984, etc.) as well as the science fiction genre.
I enjoy dystopian novels, but think its a great read overall.
I just had to look up the word "dystopian" - me not so smart.
All I can say, sir, is that starting these Friday threads was pure brilliance.
started reading "Sea of Thunder", by Evan Thomas. If you like miliatry history, I recommend it. It tells the story of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Not just from the American side, but also from the Japanese.

That reminds me of "Flyboys" - the story of Iwo Jima and Chichi Jima from both the American and Japanese perspectives. It really focused on a few individuals from each side - how they grew up, joined the military at a time of war, and were thrown into this completely bizarre and incredible situation (at the beginning of the war, nobody had any idea how to fight a war that took place over thousands of miles of water).
Getting ready to put in a night shift at the resturant. The summer of a poor college student... But for now I can sit back and watch last nights episode of the office, accompanied by this plate of nachos.
Took the APUSH test today. Did surprisingly well.
/gets his 3 in the mail
The problem is everyone thinks it's easy so in reality it was incredibly difficult.
The real problem is you're graded on a Bell curve so you're competing against kids that thought they did well on it. Stupid AP tests are graded so stupid.
This site is causing me to seriously procrastinate at work today. I suppose a posting a comment like this is the extreme of it.
I'm coming to Ann Arbor tonight! So stoked, I haven't been back from Cleveland in a few months.
My mom is graduating from Spring Arbor tomorrow, so I'll also be attending her commencement ceremony, and getting some steak at Lelli's in Detroit. Should be a great weekend.
In one hour I will be heading home, stopping by the feed mill to pick up dog food, mulching flower beds, and drinking Founders Dirty Bastard. Thanks to all who have recommended Founders, you are not wrong.
I miss Founders like crazy. I graduated from Grand Valley last year, and spent much of my senior year there as a mug club member. One of the best years of my life.
I don't normally endorse stores, but I live in central Ohio (yes that Ohio) and Giant Eagle carries 3 varieties of Founders and Bells Oberon. I don't know where you are located, but it might be worth a try.
It's easy enough to find here in Cleveland. I just miss the atmosphere of the bar itself. One of the better brewery experiences that I know of. Great Lakes Brewing Co. is a worthy replacement, and I've heard Thirsty Dog is fun too, but man do I miss Founders.
I guess I could have seen that if I'd looked up a few posts. Is Great Lakes in the Flats? It's been years since I've been down there. I like the Euclid Tavern for all you "Light of Day" fans.
GLBC is actually in Ohio City. It's a really great location, right across the street from another, relatively new microbrewery/restaurant called Market Garden, and just a couple doors down from a highly recommended beligan beer emporium called McNulty's Bier Markt, which I think anyone who loves belgians should check out at some point in their lives. You can go wrong with a night in Ohio City.
Posbang? Yes, please.
Thatching a yard is no joke, working 7pm to 7am all weekend won't be either.
Monday and Tuesday will be my weekend.
Just finished with my last patient, only 45 mintues behind. Still have every patient to dictate.
Instead of my planned margaritas, I am going to have ice cold Jose white. In a mug!
The best pizza ever, a bold claim but it's freaking amazing!!! Sorry about the stitches, you've probably figured it out by now but there's a pretty decent hospital in Cheboygan.
Hooray! See you on the other side.
