If the opponent is the New York Yankees, I will root for any team in MLB.
Go Tigers, beat the evil empire.

Here are my thoughts: fuck the cardinals.
October 13th, 2012 at 10:24 AM ^
Agreed. I've had an intense hate of them since they beat us in the '06 WS. I'm not sure how they are always so damn good (and lucky). 7 NLCS bids since 2000. The rest of the NL should be embarassed by that number.

The final four is the last 3 world series winners and the Tigers, the rest of the country not located in Eastern Missouri, Nothern California or the Bronx would be crazy not to root for Leyland's boys

I am a baseball fan, but I have a hard time watching two teams that I have no afiliation with play, that is until the playoffs when I watch as much as possible. This is the best time of year for sports. College football is getting interesting, baseball playoffs, the NFL, and the NBA is gearing up to begin in a few weeks. Does not get better
October 13th, 2012 at 6:26 AM ^
Yeah! And NHL is getting ready to start..... uh I mean implode.
October 13th, 2012 at 1:46 AM ^
I was hoping the Nationals would win. If they were to beat the Giants, it'd be an easier road for the Tigers when we beat the Yankees.

The Nats had the best record in baseball
October 13th, 2012 at 9:36 AM ^
Nats had the best record, but after shutting down Strasburg, I'm not certain they had the best team.
October 13th, 2012 at 2:11 AM ^
I was at the game in DC tonight. Not a Nats fan, but that was a total heartbreaker.
October 13th, 2012 at 2:23 AM ^
Love the Cards! Going for 12th World Series in 2012! Who needs Pujols anyways!
October 13th, 2012 at 5:52 AM ^
I felt a lil schadenfreunde for the Nats shutting down their ace thinking they could carry on their season into the WS without him.
I feel like they won't ever have that chance again.
Total fools!

Like the Tigers against the Yankees. The Yankees looked pretty bad hitting the ball in their series.
Tigers in 6.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:08 AM ^
Was any one else wondering why the Nats manager kept that pitcher in for the entire disastrous ninth inning? Was every other reliever crippled?
October 13th, 2012 at 9:33 AM ^
it happened fast, and they needed just one more out, in fact just one more strike...twice.
October 13th, 2012 at 10:57 AM ^
the 9th inning had rolled around, the reliable pitchers -- aside from Jordan Zimmerman -- had been used. If you're going to second guess Johnson, here are two -- maybe three -- issues:
-- Why was Storen used in game 3 when the Nats were obviously out of that game? Johnson had to realise that if the Nats were going to win the series, he was going to need Storen in games 4 and 5. Most relievers are less effective when they are pitching on the third consecutive day. And, Storen missed much of the season with injuries so he probably had more stamina issues than most.
-- After the game was tied and Descalso stole second (allowing that to happen uncontested is my possible third issue), why wasn't Kozma walked. That would have led to an at bat by Cruz a very bad hitter AND also gotten Motte out of the game.

The probable matchup for tonight is Doug Fister versus Andy Pettitte, which I think favors Detroit, and the next three potential starters for Detroit, I would think, become Sanchez, Verlander and Scherzer. I haven't seen anything on the Yankees' rotation other than Pettitte, but then they haven't had a moment to sit down and consider it. The Tigers' starting pitching can put us in a good position to finish this series in six if the bats stay alive, in my opinion.
October 13th, 2012 at 9:11 AM ^
after Pettite, I would imagine Kuroda, CC, Hughes...not sure the order, but that is their rotation. I'm sure CC will match up against JV.

What an implosion by the nats.. jesus.. At least throw strasburg for 1 inning to save the fucking game.. Nats closers brutal
October 13th, 2012 at 9:00 AM ^
Did the Nationals cost themselves a World Series title with their handling of Stephen Strasburg? If your going to limit the most talented pitcher on your team, why not start pitching him in July instead of April, and have him available for the Playoffs.
October 13th, 2012 at 9:14 AM ^
total stupid move by the Nats...Strasburg is represented by Boras, he was involved in the whole "shutdown" more than likely, he wanted the Nats to think of his agent, doubt whether Boras thinks much of the Nats in a couple of years when his contract is up. Total stupid move for Nats, Stephen Strasburg will be in pinstripes or Beantown when his contract is up, so they pretty much saved him for them.

As a Cards fan I want to see them play the Tigers in the WS again. One of my best friends is a huge Tigers fan. Before you neg me let me say that I would be happy for my friend if the Tigers win the WS.
Great game last night and go Tigers! Beat the yankees.

I hate the Cardinals, but the Nationals got what they deserved. You have to do everything you can to win a championship when you have the chance.
Go Giants.
Go Tigers.

Anyone else day dreaming of Cards vs Tigers game 7 of the World Series, with the Tigers up by 3 and Jose Valverde charging in from the bullpen?
October 13th, 2012 at 9:43 AM ^
That's not a dream. it's a nightmare.
October 13th, 2012 at 10:23 AM ^
I can't even watch anymore when Benoit or Valverde are pitching. I just keep switching channels...my relief pitching nerves have been depleted.

Great job, O's and Nats.

...are just old. I'm having trouble fathoming how they keep winning their division every year. They are also more beat up than the Tigers right now with nagging injuries. Kind of reminds me how Detroit limped into the series against the Rangers last year.
I feel like the Tigers should dominate (maybe even sweep) this series...except for the bullpen. You just know Benoit/Valverde will blow a late game lead with homers at Yankee Stadium. And assuming that Sabathia wills the Yanks to a win in game 4 (rather than a game 3 head-to-head matchup against Verl) then that would give the Tigers the series 6 games. That sounds about right, Tigers in 6.
