OT: 4th Quarter Lions thread
If we win, I'll think two things. 1.) What am I drinking? 2.) Wait....what?
until somebody in that locker room takes command and tells them to stop hitting guys in the face after whistles.
Agreed. I'll still watch 'em, but it's so frustrating. And as I type this we get another dumb personal foul after the whistle.
This is a dumb team.
Make Radiohead's "Just" play repeatedly in my head!
The lions are killing themselves. I cant stand watching how undisciplined these lions are. They have a chance to beat the saints but they kill themselves with stupid penalties
that burlson catch shoulda went for a TD...
How about Al Michaels trolling the shit out of Jeff Backus?
I didn't think it was possible to play football with our heads up our asses.
Was offsides at the end of the half on the FG.
worse as the season progresses. Are the other d coordinators that much better, or are injuries taking their toll? Maybe both?
Injuries definitely aren't helping the defense or run game.
This team is showing every sign of a young team that they possibly can. Idiotic decisions, slow starts, too emotional, and don't know how to win yet.
That's 6 points left on the field. Even with all those penalties.
A blocked field goal where the defender was 3 feet offside, and a missed 55 yarder. Tough to grade Hanson on those.
I'm more unhappy with Titus Young costing us a TD when we had the ball on the 3 because he had to slap someone with the referee in the way. That cost us 4 points right there.
i want him to tear them a new ass he acts like they do nothing wrong with these penalties. same old lions with some talented players. bad boys dont win in the nfl
Well, they're also down something like 4-5 starters and 2-3 backups on d, as well. Do that to the ravens and they'll be struggling.
The undisciplined idiocy is just adding to that.
hearing "He's wiiiiiddddeee open, no one around him," or "he's in end zone untouched," two frequent playcalls against Lion defenses..
must frustrating game ever...
not saying the lions aren't hurting themselves with stupid penalties... BUT how is it PI for Burleson, but not for Meachem (in the 1st) for essentially the exact same moves?!?!
Officials don't care who is on the field. Go eat your tin foil hat.
When I saw the Lions picked up Chris Harris, I knew you guys were dun-sky in the secondary.
This is the most frustrated I've ever been watching the Lions in my entire life.
They have zero discipline, and it is costing us dearly. This game was lost on account of the inability of the players to actually play the right way. They have enough talent to beat this team, but they can't put it together, and that's on Schwartz.
I'm starting to not believe in Schwartz anymore, and that realization hurts.
the defenders ran into each other! Wow, was he open or what!!" lol, same old Lions. Playoffs??...Playoffs??... Insert famous rant.
Killing themselves with penalties and trying a 55 yard FG was prolly not smart. D had been solid, why not back them up there instead of trying a long fg with not great reward since we'd still need a td? I trust Hanson generally but not the smartest call.
This team is pathetic! They have committed at least four stupid childish penalties and in two cases lost potential TDs because of them. They are undisciplined and weak-minded. Theyw ill not make the playoffs and again we all drank the kool-aid and ate the cornbread. 8-8 is the best this team will do.
It truly sucks being a lifelong Lions fan.
I am happy with this performance. The mental mistakes are frustrating, but few thought they would win this game.
miracles with this team, but he will end going the same way other Lions' coaches have gone. He'll end up driving himself crazy and ruining his rep trying to change the culture of this hopeless francise.
People will hate the comparison but I see it in a lot of aspects from coaching to discipline to on the field even
I made the same comparison, but got negged for it. Mine was a bit harsher though, I used the word "THUG".
Another dumb penalty... killing drives
He he he he DROPPED IT, no no oh no..
That was not a penalty I'm sorry
No, but now that we've developed a bit of a reputation in this league (which I believe we have), we're going to get horsefucked on the ticky-tack stuff, too.
Been jumping around a bit so I haven't watched everything, but some of these Offensive PI's on the Lions are pretty questionable.
try to get it back. Brees is running a passing clinic, this won't end well.
What good did that do? You netted about 25-30 yards??? I know they are playing stupid right now but Scwartz doesn't need to join in! Some really bad calls not going the lions way though, pretty ticky tack stuff!
When is the last time you saw a thing and said to yourself, "I approve of this thing."
Can someone please explain to me why a defensive pass interference can be nullified if the ball is uncatchable, but it isn't even a factor on offensive pass interference?
I love the fact the Lions are relevant again but I might really hate this team
It is do-or-die time and he punts it. What the fuck?
In these situations where they must be perfect to come back. There is no margin for error, and they usually end up with turnover to a ball hawking safety.
Now I understand why people fight at Lions games, and why Ford Field charges $9 for a beer. Watching this team on a regular basis would make me want to drink and slug someone in the lip.
Hopefully Logan gets a good return here
These offensive PI's are killing us
This ref needs to get a wife, so that he can quit fucking Burleson. This is bullshit. That Saints defender had his arms out, too.
There have been about 8 offensive PI calls all year. 11 of those have been against the Lions tonight.
REALLY PETTIGREW!!!! YOU HIT THE FUCKING REFEREE!!!!!
STOP TAKING DUMBASS PENALTIES
Just... I... AAAARRRRGGGG
Thanks for following suit.
I have never seen this many OPI's before on one team let alone one player
schwartz needs to get this team together.
edit: But harper is a pussy, needs to get his ass beat.
Det nothing but thugs... No better than MSU!
It's about fucking time.
Lions have been playing a lot better than this, but the questionable OPI's hurt us and our own players make stupid mistakes. There's playing with a chip on your shoulder and then there's playing stupid
Okay. I think we can say goodnight, now.
Well we can kiss the Wild Card goodbye
No. Not yet. Chicago, ATL and the Giants all lost and are also all 7-5. We could have grabbed the Wild Card by the throat, but we're not dead yet. And we've got Oakland and the Vikings yet, too. Those can easily be had. Even by this spectale of a football team.
Well yeah, but Oakland is a hit-or-miss team that could beat us in a game of "Who can commit more stupid penalties" and I'm not relishing going to Lambeau to play a potential 15-0 Packers team looking to make history
I be like dang. Lions be like the lions.
This just isn't a playoff team.
I'm not even a lions fan, but this is pretty ridiculous... Lions have been called for 4-5 penalties that were marginal at BEST, while NO got away with the same plays. Have the lions committed some stupid, ridiculous penalties? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that the calls have been unbalanced. The tally is currently 11-3 when it should be more like 7-5(6). Take into account when those missing calls should have been (FG attempt, etc.) and it writes a diff story.
That said, I do think the Saints deserved the win more. I just feel like they were provided an easier path to it than they deserved.
i agree but its not like the lions have been doing themselves any favors this year in how theyre viewed by the officials.
i want to slap nate burleson in the fucking face
Lions were making a game of it early in the 4th. But since that loss to the Rams the Saints have been playing at such a high level.
we need to revamp our offensive line. and not slap the refs.
Can we slap the offensive line instead?
Two national TV appearances over two weeks. Both embarrassing with stupid penalties. This team can be competitive with anyone, but the ill-timed penalties need to end. 10 wins is a guaranteed wild card. We'll have to scrape and claw for each win and not push referees.
I should be used to this shit. I find myself continually amazed that I am not. I must say it's a lot more fun watching the Lions lose if it doesn't mean anything when they do.
A lot of those penalties were dumb, no question, but they haven't called ANYTHING our way. A bunch of those push-offs called on Burleson were absolute garbage. Recievers and corners bump all the time, and only one of those was the contact even CLOSE to waranting a call. They've been holding VadenBosch ALL night.
Not like the Saints haven't been taking their shots tonight either, they just aren't calling ANY of them. When crap like that happens, you get frustrated, and that breeds more penalties.
These announces are absolutely unbearable, too. They're been giving the Saints a 3-hour blow job and taking every shot at the Lions that they possibly can. I don't care how much Backus's age is showing, he doesn't deserve to be called out for being the losingest player in the NFL like it's all his fault. That's despicable.
This is like playing in the early 2000's again, losing 10 games by a touchdown or less and losing a good half of them on getting a screw job. Can't remember the exact game, but I'll never forget watching us throw it deep on the last drive. Their safety had both hands around the reciever's neck pulling him, and the ball just barely slips off his finger tips. No call. That embodies this franchise more than any play I've ever seen. Absolutely no breaks, all the futility, etc. I'm tired of it and I really hope this team finally becomes the one that gets tired of it to. It still looks bad now, but there's reason to hope for the first time since Barry. Starting 5-0 just makes it hard to remember that, methinks.
And that announcing is going to just going to add to the national vibe that the Lions are wild untamed reckless idiots.
And it's absurb. They don't mention any of the uncalled elbows they're throwing at us, any of the late hits on Stafford, none of it. I don't blame the guys for being pissed. How would you feel if you've got guys like Jenkins taking cheap shots at you, but the moment you even so much as look back at him the wrong way you've got a flag in your face?
I'm beginning to really wonder if the league does this on purpose. This is the story of this entire team, and games like this are why it stays that way. You could load the Lions up with the Pro Bowl's first team and I'll bet they'd STILL find a way to get screwed.
the Lions were embarassing. This is why they don't get Monday night games very often. No playoffs this year and we'll need a new Oline and probably draft defense again.
We need two Olineman and another back and a corner and a safety and a kicker and a punter. Jeebus this team always has so many holes.
Hanson is still a great kicker. Nobody makes EVERY 55-yarder, and the block was a missed offsides.
Our best corner, two punters, three running backs, and I believe also a safety are injured. Can't do much about that. O-Line we definitely need though.
I think it's easier to say what we have, rather than what we need. We have a QB, receivers, a defensive line, and a kicker that we can get another year out of. And that's it. Again, Hansen missed a 55-yarder, and had one blocked by a guy who was about 3 feet offside, although no one likes to talk about that part. Apparently Usain Bolt was on the edge of the Saints' line on that play.
Everywhere else there's holes, and big ones at that.
You can't blame Hanson for his rough outing, the guy was offsides on the blocked kick and he missed from 55 yards out. Second Ryan Donahue went on IR, so we're set there next year
Madonna will be doing the halftime show of the Super Bowl, could they get any more irrelevant? How about having a Notre Dame highlights show of returning to glory.
he's just getting old. We need a shutdown corner and we've got to get rid of Backus and Cherilus. The Lions haven't had a good OLine in my 47 years. Barry made some look good, but he also had more carries for loss than any player in history.
Age is not nearly as relevant with kickers. Morton Andersen kicked until he was at least 45. And keep in mind, Hanson was over 90% this season before tonight. If there were sure signs of slippage, I would agree with you. But not yet. I think we're good for at least another year.
The line played great today! Stafford was phenomenal!! Only story to this game is their undisciplened mother f'ing penalties! I love what Schwartz has done with this team, but I think he even realized in this game that their attitude is going to cost them!
Penalties and fumbles are one thing. However, his biggest transgression is his mouth. I'm convinced that his attitude and trash talk are a big reason the Lions are so undisciplined. They just don't need his type of leadership on or off the field.
We've seen this show before.
