Public transport to/from Bob…

Public transport to/from Bob Hope Airport and the Rose Bowl would require 2 to 4 changes (depending which route you choose) and take about 2 - 2.5 hrs. Of that time about 30 - 40 minutes of it would be walking. Game day, getting on the outbound might take longer depending how quickly you get out and if you get on the first avail or have to wait for the next.

FWIW - Burbank is about as easy an airport to get in and out of as there is. Even if you don't have TSA Pre, I'd estimate a total of 10-15min from the Uber/Lyft dropping you off to being at the gate. If it's "busy" (by Burbank standards) it might be 20min. I fly out of there instead of LAX whenever possible simply because it's just soooo much easier and relaxed.

I wasn't addressing the…

I wasn't addressing the recruitment side of NIL. Just the people complaining that "we would give money but the university won't let us!"

As I said, I too believe they can and should be more pro-active.

I see lots of comments from…

I see lots of comments from folks saying that the administration (whether athletic or institutional) needs to do more. I don't disagree.

However, I also see a bunch of comments along the lines of "Geez, we have all these people willing to give money - why don't they let us?" I'd argue, you haven't tried very hard.

The University of Michigan's VICTORS Exchange is a student-athlete NIL business registry, custom-designed for businesses, donors, alumni, and any other interested NIL dollars wishing to connect specifically with student-athletes at the University of Michigan. Registered businesses can search, filter, and initiate conversations with your student-athletes to discuss an NIL deal. Once the NIL deal between a registered business and student-athlete(s) is completed, the business will use the VICTORS Exchange to create a transaction that will produce a direct payment to the student-athlete (without any transaction fee) and automate a disclosure to the INFLCR Verified Compliance Ledger. The institution does not have to get involved in the deal, and all transactions within the local exchange are consolidated into one 1099 at the end of the year for easier tax reporting purposes for registered businesses and athletes.

Now, could and should the university do more to be proactive rather than reactive? Probably. But to say they aren't doing anything is also a little lazy IMHO.

People keep bringing up $$$…

People keep bringing up $$$ as such a huge deal for to football or not to football and how that should somehow weigh heavy on Schlissel's head. While money is absolutely a concern for the Athletic Dept. in the big picture of the University as a whole it's only a very tiny drop in the bucket. The budget for the University is almost $9 BILLION. The entire AD has a budget of just under $200M (i.e., about 2% of the entire budget. Incidentally, total gifts (not just those for the AD) are about 4% (a bit under $400M). So, while a couple big donors might make some noise, they aren't carrying the water for the University. It's also worth noting that "only" about 1/3 of the $$$ Ross donated went to the AD. The rest went to the B School. The vast majority of revenue for the University (over 50%) comes from the medical facilities.

So... When presented with…

So... When presented with actual data/facts that disprove your point your defense is to change the point? Well played.

This indicates someone unwilling to entertain any sort of reasonable debate. The University of Michigan I graduated from taught critical thinking among other things. Perhaps you skipped those days.

Cardiologist or not, it's…

Cardiologist or not, it's still just the opinion of one doctor. The piece is labeled "Commentary" for a reason. Whether I agree with his opinion or not doesn't really matter. You, however are presenting it as if it's a definitive opinion. It most definitely is not. This is evidenced by the fact that we have some schools with doctors saying it's safe to play and others with doctors that have said the risk is too great.

Your first point seems to equate death as the only reason to be concerned. There are multitude other outcomes from contraction of the virus. Some are likely perfectly fine for continuing to participate in college sports (*not* just football, right?) Others, ehhh not so much.

Your second point is in fact a link to an *opinion piece*. It is hardly the mic-drop you claim it to be.

I grew up on Bo's Michigan

I grew up on Bo's Michigan (went to my first game in 75 as a 5 yr old). So to me the stickers are a welcome return to the Michigan I grew up with. That said, I don't see what all the fuss is about. If the players and coaches like them, why would any fan feel compelled to be so against them? Is your professed love for our "look" so important that you'd sacrifice a motivational tool? Isn't that the same old Form over Function debate that's been debated for eons? Again, I'm fine with them or without. I happen to like them, but *shrug* who cares.... Worry less about how we look, worry more about how we play.

Not fair - I live in LA. So, my list is too long to post.

While they've not yet

While they've not yet announced anthing (that I'm aware of), typically the Alumni Association does a trip package for these typ of events. Usually, it's coordinated and managed by Conlin Travel. I've gone on them before - most recently to the Puerto Rico Tip Off. The whole trip was great. They arrange for all the important details in addition to stuff like being at the welcome banquet, etc. Access and proximity to the team are pretty impressive as well. I shared drinks with coaches, dined with players and their families and basically felt that much closer to the program. I would recommend the experience to any fan.

That said, I was probably one of the youngest in the group of 30-40ish people. Most were in the 50-70 yrs range. There were a few couples in their late 20's early 30's So, if you're looking to hang with a bunch of recent grads and whoop it up, this is not your scene.

I would second some sort of consecrated thread/board for Mgo-related postings. As mentioned above, the linkedin group seems dead. Something here, directly on the board seems more likely to have 1) traction and 2) focus on the much smaller, dedicated readership of the board.

As it happens, I'm actively looking to fill a couple positions at my startup here in LA. But I wouldn't want to start a thread on the main board for that.

I'm surprised more people

I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned some of the newer, more tech-savvy options out there...

Lending Club and Prosper offer Peer to Peer lending. If you wouldn't require quick liquidity it's a pretty good way to be fairly protected from the market and still earn nice returns. You need to develop some strategies as to which loans you want to invest in. But there is lots of good advice and tools out there to help with that. Over the last 3 years I've earned a solid 12% annually.

Robo-Advisors such as Betterment and Wealthfront are another option. While an actual financial advisor will charge you 1% - 2% these services charge only a fraction of that. In fact I believe Wealthfront waives the fee for accounts under $15K. They basically use Modern Portfolio Theory to do asset allocation via a set of ETFs and other instruments (typically Vanguard offerings). You could do it yourself if you wanted to... the services just do all the legwork for you. So, it's more of a set it and forget it model. You won't seriously outperform the market with any of these. But hopefully, you'd be protected from downside as they would exit/re-allocate should things take a downturn.

If you feel like being a bit more hands on then something like Motif might be interesting. I saw it mentioned earlier. Basically, it allows you to own lots of stocks without having to actually pay for them individually. One downside, they don't do dividend reinvestment. But say you liked Companies Based in Michigan for some reason, you could build your own little mutual fund of sorts that was made up of those stocks. So, while more forgiving perhaps than owning a single stock, you'd still need to closely monitor the market and investments.

Obviously there's no one right answer... everyone's situation, risk tolerance and requirements are different. So, I'm not suggesting these are necessarily appropriate for you. Just wanted to make sure they were part of the discussion.
