OT: 2016 NFL Draft Trade: Eagles move up to No. 2

Submitted by MAccLA on

Eagles trade up from No. 8 to No. 2 in another huge trade before the 2016 NFL Draft.

The Eagles give up their first-round pick (eighth overall), their third (77th) and fourth (100th), along with their 2017 first-rounder and their 2018 second-rounder. They get the Browns’ fourth-rounder this year as well as the second pick.

Compared to the Rams trade (see specs below), it seems like the Eagles got a somewhat better deal than the Rams.

Tennessee sent the top selection along with its fourth- (No. 113) and sixth-round (No. 177) picks this year to the Rams in exchange for Los Angeles' first-round pick (No. 15), two second-round selections (Nos. 43 and 45) and a third-round pick (No. 76) in 2016. The Titans also will get the Rams' first- and third-round picks in 2017.

One of the stupider trades I've seen, from the Eagles perspective.  The Browns did something right it seems, but with their luck Wentz will be the second coming of Brady.

that stay healthy and become cornerstones for their respective franchises...both trades will end up being great moves...regardless of what they gave up. That said, the odds that both QB's live up to their potential and stay healthy at same time are probably not great. But if you don't have a healthy franchise quarterback, which the Rams and Eagles don't you probably aren't going to be really good anyway.

isn't any evidence that NFL teams are good at / capable of determining which QB in each draft has the highest likelihood of being a great QB, especially when there isn't a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck no-brainer - and there certainly does not seem to be this year. So yes, highly unlikely that both QBs will be good and fairly unlikely either of them becomes franchise quality.  Very smart trade for the Browns.

Also, you def don't need a healthy franchise QB to be really good if you're smart with the rest of the team (defense and O line) Lately we've seen more mediocre QBs win with great defenses (Eli, Flacco, Wilson, geriatric Peyton) than we've seen franchise QBs carry their teams. Yes, Wilson improved to well above average in 2015 but his SB winning year he wasn't top 10 in total QBR and the offense revolved around Lynch. It's no coincidence that when Russell got his big payday, the team couldn't afford the dominant pieces around him.

but all happened in the 80s and early 90s.  The Lions and Browns are without question the reigning champs in the last 15-20 years. Maybe the Raiders are in play (see what I did there) but at least they went to a Super Bowl in that time frame.  With the Browns new focus on analytics and the Lions having a guy from New England, those franchises may be turning things around...

Boy thats a lot to give up to move up six spots.  Are teams really that desperate for QB's in a year when there really aren't any showstoppers available?

No, Draft Day was prophetic. They will come out looking like they just beat everyone at their own game and got a billion all stars for free. Of course those all stars are going to be total busts once they see the field.

Is this for Wentz? Seems...foolish of the Eagles. What do the Browns hope to get at #8? I don't follow either team so I have no idea what they need out of the first round.
