Who should you be rooting for?
One of the team's in the game is Ohio State...isn't the answer obvious?

Here is a handy Big Ten priority cheering guide. When in doubt:
- Choose more weasel-like animal mascots over less weasel-like animal mascots
- Choose any animal mascot over any human mascot
- Choose occupational human mascots over historical human mascots
- Choose any human mascot over any plant mascot
- Fuck Notre Dame

Very funny and very concise. And I like the last line best.

This doesn't answer the important question of who to root for when Northwestern, Penn State, or Iowa are playing each other. Also, is a "Hoosier" historical or occupational? I'm not aware of any historical meaning... do residents of Indiana just sit around Hoosing all day?

FYI: Brian says we should be rooting for OSU

Wisconsin's offense is still gross, they throw it in the post 3 times a possession only looking to kick it out to someone for a 3, and more often than not they miss the 3. Their style of play while successful is just ugly to watch.
January 29th, 2013 at 7:37 PM ^
Wisconsin ought to be embarrassed by how they play basketball. They make games totally unwatchable.
January 29th, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
I don't think they care as long as they win.

I think that goes without saying.

Don't watch if you don't like their style. If you enjoy good basketball you'll watch. If you need loads of points then Big Ten basketball often won't be your forte; this isn't new. It's effective basketball and fans of well taught and fundamental basketball will watch.
January 29th, 2013 at 7:53 PM ^
I mean, I enjoy well taught and fundamental basketball as much as the next guy, I just prefer not to watch a team pass for 30 seconds and then throw up a brick.
January 29th, 2013 at 8:03 PM ^
Lol you can play slow and not suck at basketball, wisconsin plays straight up ugly basketball and osu has an offense that is deshaun thomas or bricks, which is also ugly. And for the record, zero national championships since 2000 would suggest strongly that the slow down basketball employed by many in the big ten is not in fact all that effective.

I didn't say they suck, i said they play terrible basketball, you can win and still be painful to watch, which this game was. Also wooo final 4's thats totally the same thing as national championships. OSU lost twice to sec teams in bcs championships, the big ten doesn't look any better in footbal because a team managed to get to the championship game to lose. The only thing that matters prestige wise is championships, if your teams aren't winning them then you can't say your brand of playing the game is working. Not to mention many of those final fours were msu which played an up tempo style compared to the average big ten team.

The point of basketball is to win games. If you are good at winning games, then you most likely are playing good basketball.

I mean, you're your own (uh, firearm?), so I wouldn't presume to tell you for whom you should be rooting. With that said, Brian's Opponent Watch recommending cheering ... against Wisconsin — presumably because these teams both have 2 losses in-conference and Michigan has to play at the Kohl Center while Wisconsin dodges a trip to Ann Arbor this year.

All I can say is that both teams have worked extremely hard to arrive at this 26-24 score. Wisconsin is actually being outshot by Ohio State by a mere 0.6% right now - 38.5% to 39.1%.

An Ohio State win makes our loss look a little better. I am rooting for them purely from the standpoint of improving our chances at a #1 seed.

How about you win a road game against a team that doesn't completely suck. The Wolfpack are now 1-4 on the road, with that lone victory being at Boston College.

That marks the third consecutive game that Wisconsin has failed to score 50 points. They scored 47 against MSU, 45 against Minnesota (and won!) and 49 tonight. That is amazing.

Wisconsin basketball: YUCK.
Seriously, remember that PSU game a year or two ago, like 36-33 final? This is worse than four-corners, and worse than a soccer team playing 10 men inside their box (a "shell"). It's indeed unwatchable. It's almost like, "we can't play real basketball, so we'll do something else." Why would recruits go for this?
I hope, when we play them, we shred them 84-30 or something like that. Of course, I'm fully aware the final will be 45-41.
