Oh Lane

Messing with the game balls and your team still gave up 700 yards of offense.

I don't know if this is actually his fault, but this seems like the place to say this. I assumed that Al Davis was just bonkers and wrong, but his assessment of Lane Kiffin was probably his most lucid and prescient moment of the last decade of his life. What a scumbag.
November 8th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
I was in the same boat. I figured Al Davis was just being crazy again. But apparently he was on the money, in maybe unplayed just how slimy Kiffin really is.

Also what's the advantage of deflated balls (ha, but seriously)?
November 8th, 2012 at 4:20 AM ^
a slightly deflated ball would be easier to catch and hold to as a running back.
I would think it would suck passing.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:36 AM ^
Correct to the first two, somewhat correct to the last.
The amount of deflation needed to make it a lot easier to catch is little enough that it would have a negligible effect on throwing.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:41 AM ^
I didn't make that very clear. Let me try again, this time with visuals!
Deflation scale:
1 |--------------5--------------| 10
For throwing to be effected (more difficult to throw), the deflation number would need to be at least a 5.
For catching to be effected (easier to catch), the deflation number would need to be at least a 2.
QED as long as the footballs aren't deflated too much, everything should check out.

But I was browsing the roster, and noticed that Jack Kennedy may graduate with a 100% completion rating, 158.8 passer efficiency rating, and averaging 6 ypc (1/1 passing, 1 carry for 6 yards)
November 8th, 2012 at 2:18 AM ^
It was known. Jack Kennedy will be the most accurate passer ever at Michigan. Have some points to push you on your way to start a thread.

The cake is a lie...
November 8th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
The (MMB) cake is not a lie and it will be back in the Big House during pregame against Iowa.
-I understood your reference but then I made it about Michigan, specifically the band.
-I'm still sad that Carl was sick at that game that I linked to.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:52 AM ^
not sure a new thread about Jack Kennedy's completion percentage is necessary.

in a diary for Senior Day, though. Anyone want to get on that?

"Everybody gets pinched. But you did it right. You told 'em nothing and they got nothing...I'm proud of you. You took your first pinch like a man and you learned the two greatest things in life...Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut." - Lane Kiffin
November 8th, 2012 at 8:30 AM ^
That didn't help Paulie Cicero or Jimmy Conway.
And Henry's life afterward: "And that's the hardest part. Today everything is different; there's no action... have to wait around like everyone else. Can't even get decent food - right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce, and I got egg noodles and ketchup. I'm an average nobody... get to live the rest of my life like a schnook. "

about that ending is that in a world where movie gansters often want "out" and become desperate to dissasociate themselves from their past (Godfather, Heat, etc.), Hill never identified how inherently flawed and unsustainable "the lifestyle" was. He viewed being allowed to not go to prison and actually just "live" as an insult, like he was being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment above that which a gangster should ever being forced to withstand. That was what was fascinating about both that book and movie. He just never got it.
As for Kiffin and USC, what did you expect? The WORST HIRE EVER. That guy is just trouble.
November 8th, 2012 at 9:55 AM ^
The NCAA's slimiest program hired football's most unctuous coach. That might be their best hire ever, at least in terms of being a good "fit."

Can Kiffin get any slimier?
November 8th, 2012 at 5:47 AM ^
Serious question: does Lane Kiffin have a soul?
November 8th, 2012 at 7:25 AM ^
Of course he does...he shares one with Nick Saban. Lane gets it on M-W-F, while Sabs gets it on T-R-Sun They flip a ball boy to determine who gets it on Saturdays.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:59 AM ^
Actually, I think neither get it on Saturdays. Especially fall Saturdays both seem to be soulless. /s

Barkley has small hands. And you know what they say about small hands. They don't really say anything about small hands.
November 8th, 2012 at 8:48 AM ^
A) There is no way this kid went rouge and did this without being told to.
B) I wonder how much it would cost to get the fired manager to talk on the record about it.
November 8th, 2012 at 9:27 AM ^
Like this?
November 8th, 2012 at 8:55 AM ^
With girls like this hanging out at games, that there would be no problems keeping your balls inflated.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:16 AM ^
You might want to get checked out. That's not quite how it should work.
November 8th, 2012 at 9:06 AM ^
Lane's wife's hotness is inversly proportional to his morals. This guy has already left more than one fan base hating him, and I feel like the list will grow like a wildfire before all is said and done. How many years until he's run out of USC? Who knows...
November 8th, 2012 at 9:26 AM ^
The strange thing about Kiffin is he hasn't won anywhere. His career arch would indicate that he has been successful, but that is not accurate. It's as if he has naked pictures of everybody's wife or something. Maybe he does?
November 8th, 2012 at 12:29 PM ^
And it wouldn't cover up his mediocre coaching.

November 9th, 2012 at 12:46 AM ^
They'll be lucky to beat ND. They can't block anyone. OU is the best team ND has on their schedule.
November 8th, 2012 at 9:29 AM ^
He has naked pictures of my wife?! I didn't even know I was married.
November 8th, 2012 at 10:38 AM ^
I follow the team pretty close and he's safe unless there is something huge on the violations front. He's an outstanding recruiter. People's expectations were maybe not in line with reality this season. There were lots of road games and the PAC is a lot better league than when Carroll was running over it every year. USC is mostly a young team and will have 17 starters back next year. Plus they'll have really only 3 difficult games with two of them at home and no Oregon.
We all saw the difference the home-road thing made this season with Michigan.
Now if he goes 8-4 next year, the seat might be heating up.
This offseason don't be surprised if there are staff changes made including his dad retiring as defensive coordinator and maybe hiring an offensive coordinator/quarterback's coach. My understanding is his relationship with Barkley is unnecessarily prickly and a buffer between the quarterback and coach might be in order. These changes will be an almost certainty if they don't beat UCLA and lose the south.
