OC hire imminent, Herbstreit is excited, other hints

Submitted by bdsisme on

Herbstreit's tweet:

@LongStrider86: any names come to mind for a good fit as michigan's new OC?” I know and so will you very soon. And you'll be pleased

— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014

Second Herbstreit tweet (I am editing out the Balas tweet because he is a douchecanoe. Can I say douchecanoe on the internet? After further review, yes I can.  Mods can censor if they want.):

@BCrandall11_9: @KirkHerbstreit is Rob Chudzinski going to be next OC for UofM?” No, current OC in college. That's it. Good pm

— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) January 9, 2014

Other hints:
- NFL Assistant has been tossed around a lot: Herbstreit's tweet says it is a current OC in college
- TomVH tweeted about John McNulty, but not sure if he has any inside info (no longer relevant)
- @CoachingSearch, who is pretty well known in the profession, dropped the names of Lane Kiffin, John McNulty, Mike Groh, and Randy Fichtner
- Sam Webb seems to know who it is, but isn't giving it away.  According to the other mgoblog thread (h/t jack daniels), Sam hints that it is NOT Loeffler, Terry Malone, Parrish, Groh, Kiffin, Bloomgren, Treadwell, or Chudzinski.
According to mgouser Amutnal, the hire will be announced tomorrow.
- Here's a link to another interesting mgouser comment about a well-known school's OC being hired.  Prepare to posbang or negbang him after the fact.

1) Bal Borges (Al's identical twin brother) - ok its really just Al in a Ramones wig;

2) Charlie Weis - heavier than Brady; more arrogant than Borges; decided schematic advantage needed; sidekick is Brady Quinn, Grad Assistant

3) Pat Narduzzi - he's been mentioned for every other job, so why not;

4) Nick Sheridan and or Justin Feagin and or Steven Threat - still not as bad as Borges' offense

5) Gerg - very good a making offenses look better thant they are;

6) Dave Brandon's ipad - has watched a lot of film;

7) Mike Hart - was used to making positive gains after being seemingly stopped for a loss with atrocious zone stretch blocking scheme;

8) Heiko - all your bubble screens are belong to us!!!!!!!!

9) Brett Favre - led Hattiesberg, MS to state championship as a high shcool OC;

10) Rocky Long - bringing him in couldn't save the old coach but maybe the second time is the charm;

Unfortunately I think the information needs to be put into a differential equation, and I forgot how to do that...  the day I graduated, 24 years ago...

And the HS math I have had to learn to "help" my kids does not account for the number of variables we are dealing with.

Glad I am in sales...  math is hard.

That said, the new calculators are really powerful, and it looks like it is one of 10 guys.

You are welcome.

That's the only thing that makes sense.

Two former NFL coordinators, didn't he work with Mattison in Baltimore too?

It's gotta be Cameron.

I can't think of one other guy in the country that would be a realistic possibility that people would say "Michigan fans will be pleased."

Tom Brady? Maybe he's retiring. Book it, it's Tom Brady.

I'm not saying I want Cameron.

I'm saying how would Kirk Herbstreit and others say "Michigan fans will be pleased."

Did you miss that entire part before you post?

Maybe next time you should slow down and read. The point was to say, "what realistic OC is going to leave and people are going to ASSUME all Michigan fans will be happy?"

For a Buckeye to assume that, it's fair to assume that HE thinks Michigan fans want "Michigan Men"

It's also fair to assume that he knows or he THINKS he knows what will get Michigan fans excited.

So instantly you're talking about a big name and a recognizable name. Michigan fans can't be pleased if they've never heard of the guy. Right?

Then if you're going to assume we'll be pleased, you have to think "top 10-15 team in the country" or "recognizable NFL offense coordinator."

There may be other guys that fit this deductive assumption reasoning, but Cam Cameron absolutely does. Even if if it's not true that Michigan fans will be happy, it's easy to see how Herbstreit would think so.

Follow me? If not. Oh well. I'm sure the majority of posters did.

The most logical sense at this point, but I think michigan fans would be pleased with any young successful coordinator. I think that was the other posters point.

The Michigan connection is not what pleases us about Cameron, it's that LSU had a very good O and Cameron has a lot of NFL experience, which is key to recruiting.

And it's easy to see why he may be interested...

I'm sure not everyone can work for Miles or be part of the tough SEC (fans/expectations wise). We can be bad, but I can't imagine what would've happened if Borges had the season he had at Bama or LSU.

So he's worked with Mattison, if he liked it and he's a friend, it's easy to see why he'd come. Plus, obviously, he began his coaching career at Michigan.

Also, if Dave Brandon is involved, you know Cameron is going to be at the top of his list. And he's probably willing to pay him a good amount. Brandon LOVES "Michigan Men"...I could see him making Cameron a top 5 paid OC in the country.

Is it the right move? I'm not saying that. But it's very easy to see it happening when you sit and think about it.

If it is Cam, he was due to make $1.3MM next year. Making him one of the top paid assistants.

I know, I know... It's bleacher report, but Cam's salary in 2014 would put him at the top 2-3 salaries.

Given this, I doubt Michigan more than doubles what they paid Al to be OC.

I hope I'm wrong.

It wouldn't surprise me.  People can say what they want about Dave Brandon, but I really do get the sense he wants to win.  For a coordinator with the success of Cameron and his ties to Michigan, I wouldn't put it past Brandon to pay more than double what they did for Borges last year.  Break out the U of M checkbook!

Was thinking Pease until I saw he went to Washington. I don't see Cameron leaving a cushy job like LSU. Sanford could, if promised to freedom Borges got. What about the guy from NDSU?
