Northern Lights - Saturday Night Drinking Thread
Mates,
I wouldn't have bothered starting a thread, but I know many of us really like to see the Northern Lights, and tonight they are supposed to be out in force such that many in the lower 48 might see them. For any who haven't ever seen them, or haven't lately, do yourself a favor and if the skies are clear over you tonight, take a look. They are awesome and a picture doesn't begin to show how awesome they are:
I hope you had an exceptionally fun and/or productive Saturday. FWIW I got my corn fields disc'd up, so I got that going for me. Lots of other stuff, but with all the kids it's not fair since I can task them in bunches. Have a great night.

EDIT: The Tigers also won today, having won 4 straight after cratering for 9 games. If the Orioles hang on to their lead, the tigers will only be 2 games out.
when you have a winning dinner like that.
not aurora borealis?

but at least the rain stayed away from my nephew's graduation in Michigan Stadium today. Lots of references to Harbaugh and Michigan State in the various speeches.
Speaking of northern drinking, Northern Latitudes distillery north of Traverse City makes a good variety of spirits, and if you like unusual botanicals in your gin, Jack Pine Gin is tremendous. A good friend and design colleague created some of the labels, including the one for Jack Pine.
Been overcast with off and on showers in Lansing all day, and we're looking at showers all night. Would have been nice to smoke a little herb and check them out. Oh well.

i bet you milk armadillos, too.
love horses, they just don't have a use for our farm. would love to have some, but there isn't enough time to take care of them on top of all the other activities of a larger-than-average family.

You definitely don't see them here in southeastern Michigan much if at all, and indeed it is raining tonight, so sadly looking up will only produce a wet sensation.
Of course, by me, you have enough light pollution from Detroit Metro Airport that observing anything in the sky is an iffy proposition. We've got a telescope but we almost need to go out to the Metroparks near us to get detailed observations.
I see plenty of stars in the early morning near DTW - they all seem to be shooting stars, though.

At least I have some New Holland Incorrigible and Wild Turkey Rare Breed to drown my sorrows.

But a commercial convinced me to buy a can of Pepsi 1893 Ginger Cola to mix with Bourbon and Mint.
Surprisingly good - somewhere between a Julep and a Dark & Stormy.
I don't put much stock in "smelling" a beer, but Scream has a better aroma than any other brew I can recall. And more importantly, it Tastes Great (but not Less Filling).

Photobucket is the old standby, but anywhere works so long as you can get the image address.

Duluth, maybe?
That's a very good Kolsch. I haven't tried the Bent Paddle Pilsner, but I love their ESB and IPA.

get that plane up and over the cloud cover. i remember showing my newlywed bride the northern lights one night when we were flying into marquette (as passengers). she had never seen them before. we went out to lake superior immediately upon clearing the airport and she got a full-on dose of the northern lights. not one of those things you forget even now, decades later.
and colorado might not be michigan, but it is a great state.

he and mom get married in '53 and honeymoon on mackinac island, staying at the grand hotel. he meets a guy there who has a plane and ends up offering to let my dad take it up and fly mom all around for a flight-seeing tour. and so dad showed mom the U.P. (she was a yooper) and the big lakes from the air. of course this predates the big mac by a few years. what a different world back then, 'hey, go ahead, take my plane. see you when you get back and we'll have a beer'.

Props to the props..... toasting you with some Talisker right now.
My brother was a loadmaster on C-130s and 124s when he was in the AF Reserves back in the '70s. I always check them out when they visit Willow Run during airshows.
my last week down here before going home for the nice months that I take the last week off. I put it off last night and so tonight starts that long road back. I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to shut it off and on like that one of these years, but by then will it matter/
Glad you got a lot of work done and hope the lights shire bright.
