I heard an air of negotiation in his voice. I saw a look of plea bargaining in his eyes.

Points are down on the MGoBoard?! I can say whatever I want with no repercussions?!?! FARTY FARTY POO PANTS FARTY POOP CRAP.

Negged for not acknowledging the power I wield. Unless nothing happens when I hit "save," and then self-negged for hubris.
EDIT: I changed my mind. MGoBlog should be a neg-free zone at least until the collective binge drink wears off.
January 5th, 2011 at 7:23 PM ^
If I could say shitballs on MgoBlog, I would be soooo happy...
January 5th, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
He looked like a deer in headlights to me. I didn't hear it because I had to have the presser muted. But the look did not inspire confidence.
January 6th, 2011 at 1:39 AM ^
My gut feeling is JH was interested until THE BOWL WIN put him at the top of the world and he may have verbally committed and then Dee-committed, putting DB in an unanticipated quandry. DB will still wait until it's proven JH has signed with another team before he starts plan B. Miracles may occur. Look ! A flying pig !
January 5th, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
But that's the point. If DB;s statements are taken at face value and the search IS only a couple of hours old, then he screwed this up already. In fact, if he isn't getting JH, then there was no need for the delay in the first place and he should have made this move in November. After losing part of the 2008 class and having massive attrition, we cannot affort a "lost recruiting class" which is exactly what we are now guaranteed. Guaranteed - there is no scenario (even JH) in which we do not lose a few recruits AND fail to close on the few kids still considering us.
But, putting the who insane time table aside for a second, even if he wanted to wait to "evaluate" RR under now, he should have lined up coaching replacement because he certainly knew that there was a non-zero chance that he would be firing RR. He didn;t have to name a replacement at the presser, but he should have been far along in his search and been able to have someone in place by the LATEST Friday so that the new coach and his staff can hit the recruiting trail ASAP!
Major fail, DB.
January 5th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
If we manage to lure JH, he'll bring some of his own recruits and find others based on how hot he is right now. Otherwise, not only is this recruiting class down the drain, but we'll have significant attrition from current players.
Plane, meet mountain.
January 5th, 2011 at 7:11 PM ^
For the record, I don't actually take his comments at face value. I recommend waiting and seeing what happens. (And I recommend doing the same after the new coach is announced.)
January 5th, 2011 at 10:05 PM ^
Evidence of the major fail to me is in the cancelled recruiting visits this weekend. If there's a plan A or B, someone in the works, just a few i's to dot on the contract, then why cancel the visits? This was the thing that worried me most from the press conference.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
I've seen enough from members gloating about people losing their jobs to not wish to be associated with this blog.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:44 PM ^
But you were okay when everyone was calling for GERG to be fired?
January 5th, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Um. Don't type in "mgoblog.com" in your address bar. Pretty simple.

January 5th, 2011 at 4:51 PM ^
You'd think RR was a wife beating, dog fighting, serial rapist or something with the way some people treat him. I believe another poster in another thread said it best: "Brock Mealer (and the kids at Motts) would (not so) kindly tell them to fuck off". Parentheses are my little additions.
All the guy did was take a job he didn't solicit from the best, most storied program in CFB and tried to help it along during a somewhat rocky stretch. That fucking bastard!
January 5th, 2011 at 4:58 PM ^
fuck him... /s
Anybody who throws RR under the bus should no longer associate themselves as fan of the University of Michigan. I am sad today not only because of the turmoil on the football program but, how genuinely bad I feel for Rich Rodriguez, his family, his staff, and the players.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:02 PM ^
It won't take long for him to get hired into a program where the fans support him from day 1.
January 5th, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
What happened to your "hot" avatar?
January 5th, 2011 at 5:21 PM ^
I can't tell if you're joking or not.
"Anybody who is angry with the worst years we have ever encountered at Michigan isn't allowed to be a fan because I loved RR"
January 5th, 2011 at 5:10 PM ^
rodriguez initiated contact with michigan, for the job, not vice versa. he wanted to see if he could work here. don't feel sorry for him.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
He got 1.5 million. Making an analogy between that and someone losing their job in the real world is just stupid.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:07 PM ^
and is planning to take the year off and relax with his family. You or me should only be so lucky....so lets not start crying him a river.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
RR went through a lot, so you can question whether that 2.5mm was earned or not. I feel bad for him, not everything is about money, his kids and Ms. Rita went through enough. If the story about the kids getting harassed in school, true? If so, the 2.5mm wasn't enough.
I feel bad for us. RR will get another job, maybe before we get another coach. However, the next coach will know that he needs to win right away or things will get worse unless he is a Michigan Man. That meme and the wrong interpretation by the MSM is destroying this program.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
... but I won't know until it actually posts. I tried to upvote you and got an error message. But I was brought to this reply box... Forgive me if This is a Test This is Only a Test serves as my up-vote.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
so how exactly is any new coach going to win with no recruits this year and the myriad of transfers that WILL happen very soon along with martin now definitely entering the draft? We know tate's gone, denard will leave no question, and devin is a spread QB who more than likely is gone. I was never sure of dave brandon considering dominoes pizza was one of the worst pizzas and franchises in history, this confirms my suspicions. How many Rodriguez hating hypocrites here are going to be preaching patience when it takes at least 3, I'd actually say 4 more years, to see a bowl game again? Notre Dame is pointing northeast and laughing.
January 5th, 2011 at 6:05 PM ^
Did you get the impression that I was a RR hater from my post? I guess I wrote that wrong or your interpretation is off. Actually a RR supporter, thought he should get at least 4 years, but can't blame the people who weren't willing to give him that extra year.
I am disgusted that people were against RR when he was hired initially. I am sick of the Michigan Man term that has been misused by the MSM. I want the best coach, I don't care if he went to OSU.
I don't even want to start talking about the recruiting class. I always thought that if you are going to fire RR, do it after OSU. I am not going to call this a disaster, but we are close.
January 5th, 2011 at 9:53 PM ^
by crapping on the dominoes pizza. I am sure there are legitimate reasons to question his abilities, but really, its weak.
January 6th, 2011 at 3:20 AM ^
When you're the lead man in a bad corporation, it reflects on you, i.e. ken lay-enron, the tyco ceo who I can't think of at the moment and dominoes-DB. when he took the michigan job, the new leadership ran the series of "our pizzas suck serious #@&# and we're changing everything" ads.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
If you add his buyout onto his salary. Its a big boy game. I agree he got treated like sh!t here but his family is well taken care of with the money he made.
January 6th, 2011 at 7:21 AM ^
I don't feel bad for, his assistant coaches who didn't get 2.5mil there the ones I feel for.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
your mgopoints?
January 5th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
i'd plus one you if i could.
January 5th, 2011 at 6:52 PM ^
that MGoBlog was the last bastion of rational support for Rich Rodriguez. I think you'd be better served if you chose not to associate yourself with this football program and the fanbase in general.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
He'll get all the coffee he wants if his HC hire turns out to somehow miracle our ass up into the upper echelons of college football again. But...it'll be brewing for a loooong time before it gets served (if ever).
January 5th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
January 5th, 2011 at 10:30 PM ^
If he left people waiting with uncertainty at a corporation for two months, productivity would grind to a halt with speculation. Clearly we've done that here and our own companies have probably lost productivity! I'm disappointed that a former CEO handled it this way, with an artificial timeline, before starting a search. I *hope* the non-communication is because he has a sensitive plan that results in a great coach but unless something big happens soon, we'll probably never know the reason.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:46 PM ^
I really don't care who coaches the team. I am an M fan and whoever the coach is that's my coach. With that being said, I can't believe that DB had no clue that he was firing RR and if so he should have had more than just a friggin list. Mark my words, if DB doesn't pull his head out of his arse soon we are going to lose recruits and games faster and more frequently than a columbus oh 13 y/o loses her virginity to a relative.
BTW: Thanks Brian for turning us back on. Yesterday was painfull. I felt like an Mgomime and no matter how I tried I couldn't get out of my imaginary box.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
It seems like our posting abilities aren't complete yet. I can't seem to post on the front page, still, or start new threads on the board.
January 5th, 2011 at 4:54 PM ^
We've been moved from "being grounded" to just "sitting in time out"
January 5th, 2011 at 4:50 PM ^
Did JH pimp us? Did DB think he had JH (bleeding maize and blue) wrapped up? Will DB pull a rabbit out of his hat? God this is bad!
Put yourself in the shoes as a parent of a recruit - what are you thinking right now? The visits for this weekend have been cancelled. No coaching decision on the horizon. You son needs to make a decision!!! Who would still come here with the uncertainty.
Time to drink and pray that a big time savior walks through the door. No Brady Hoke please.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
They will reschedule a visit weekend before the recruits make decisions. It's not like theres a huge difference between now and a week from now.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
I am wondering if Stanford's great year didn't work against us. If Brandon had, say, a handshake agreement with Harbaugh weeks ago, if Stanford doesn't finish 12- 1 maybe Harbaugh isn't such a hot name.
If Stanford had gone 10 -3 maybe we would have a coach now.
January 5th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
i think the whole draw of the nfl is what is keeping JH away. whether he went 12-1, 10-3 people were going to go after this guy for their HC position in the offseason.
January 5th, 2011 at 6:13 PM ^
I guess my question would be: Why now? Why not last year? I guess I see a connection between Stanford being better than good this year and Harbaugh being so hot now.
Edit: I am also thinking: Isn't it unfortunate the San Francisco job opens up now.
January 5th, 2011 at 6:51 PM ^
It's possible the 49er job opens up now precisely because of the opportunity to grab JH, and the concern that he would go to Michigan. Not good to be competing with NFL owners for a head coach.
January 5th, 2011 at 7:15 PM ^
