Nebraska Fans at Game
There were several articles and posts leading up to this week's game regarding the Nebraska fans.
Most of the content covered how well they travel and how dedicated they are.
I wasn't able to make it to the game. Anyone have first hand experience with the Cornhusker fans tailgating and during the game? Please share.

Inside and outside the stadium, pure class.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
and on the board as well

i tailgated from about 8am til 8pm. lot of nebraska fans in the pioneer parking lot. hung out with a lot of them. very cool bunch. not a single bad experience (they all seemed to really like us as well...aside from a few grumps that didn't like our pre-game in stadium chants). great addition to the big 10 fanbase-wise for sure.
hopefully they show as much class after a win. i'm guessing they will.

That's great to hear. How well did they travel? I've heard/read that many of there fans will make long trips even if they don't have tickets.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
There were a ton of Nebraska fans there. There was a guy in the student section we had a lot of fun with. Overall, they're a great addition to the Big 10.

Ha, yes, "great" fun. The Nebraska fans in the box next to mine wer certainly having fun, and by the sounds emminating from the walls, a few cocktails as well!

They do travel well, but I heard some enthusiasm for this trip declined after the Wisconsin trip so many made. Not very welcoming and the game, of course, was awful. My relatives originally considered coming on an arranged bus, but it was cancelled after interest waned due to the Wisconsin experience.

That said, plenty did come (my relatives drove themselves) and sounds like most were pretty impressed with Ann Arbor and the reception they got.

One weird thing: My nephew wore his cowboy boots all weekend and multiple passersby on Saturday (michigan fans, i mean) had clearly never seen them outside of a Clint Eastwood movie. Lord.

d-bags in the lower rows of section 16.....
not that our fan base is immune to imanassholeitis.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
You get idiots everywhere. It's just a matter of how many there are.
November 19th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
My own stories...deep in the heart of section 11.
There was a group of five guys behind us (old guys) who were clearly at their first game and amazed with the scoreboards etc.
After every play Michigan ran:
"don't run up the middle...why's he running up the middle...that won't ever work"
I about punched out the guy after he called Denard: "Detard"...so, yes, there is a segment of our fanbase that a) doesn't mark out for MGo and b) are complete morons.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:10 PM ^
There were a lot of 'em too.
November 19th, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
I'm pleased to say that on TV it did NOT look or sound like Nebraska fans overtook Michigan stadium, at all. Nothing like at Notre Dame a few years back.

Not much to say, there were quite a lot of them and every single one I saw was friendly
November 19th, 2011 at 8:13 PM ^
in town the last two nights. Happy to have them in A2 and the B1G Conference.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
I noticed very few on the way to the stadium, but then when I walked inside, about a half hour before kickoff, there were a ton already seated. They seem to have all gotten there very early. I'd guess there were 20-25,000 at the game.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:47 AM ^
They had a lot, but probably 10,000 at max.
November 20th, 2011 at 10:38 AM ^
They definitely had more than 10K, because that's how big the standard visitor's allotment is. They not only completely filled the visiting fans' areas (at the top of the south endzone bleachers and a portion of the lower bowl in the south), but also had significant representation in several parts of the stadium that are supposed to be occupied by Michigan fans: near the 50 (on both sides) and in the north endzone.
November 21st, 2011 at 7:59 AM ^
What is your source that the standard visitor alotment is 10%? Just looking at the stadium, common spatial sense would say that the standard visitor alotment is maybe 5% tops.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
Like 99.9 percent of them were really nice. I enjoyed talking football with them.

I did however run into one that was a heckler. I was walking on main and a person with a bullhorn decided to tell me that "Jalen Rose sucks." I then turned around and said you're entire basketball team sucks. I must have hit a nerve with him because he decided to yell through his bullhorn at me down the road. I laughed at the result.

nebraska has a basketball team?!
November 19th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
As simple as that comeback is, it's still hilarious.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:48 PM ^
"Well, the jerk store called and they're running out of you!" Haha, priceless.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:38 AM ^
It's a smart joke and a smart crowd would appreciate it!
November 19th, 2011 at 9:18 PM ^
that's the best that guy could come up with? you should've told him Turner Gill was overrated or something
November 19th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
oh well, we're gonna kick ass in baseball and I hear the women's volleyball team is tearing it up.....sigh
November 19th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
It almost looked like the 2009 Ohio State game with how much red there was...At least until halftime
November 19th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
Sure didn't look like that on tv
November 19th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Not even close.
November 19th, 2011 at 11:07 PM ^
And they were sprinkled ALL over...but it wasn't close to OSU that year.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
That's awesome they travel well and aren't complete anuses. Now next week we the college equivalent of Raiders fans showing up
November 19th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
A sea of red in the top rows of the south endzone sections. Also saw a few Husker fans wearing this, which I thought was awesome:

I'm ok with them wearing those. It adds to the maize out both literally and hur-hurilly

They were great. Two dads and their sons sat in front of me at the game today in Section 5. They were really cool, knew what the hell they were talking about, and were genuinely cordial. They are very happy to be out of the Big 12. Interestingly enough, they went to Camp Randall earlier this year and said that the Wiscy fans were horrible and that they really enjoyed AA. Really glad to sit by them, they were great. They invited us out to see their stadium and claimed that their fans were just as nice and hospitable to visitors. Looking forward to going to Lincoln next year!

I live in Madison, and in general Wisconsin fans are asses. It may come from being really good the past few years

Totally agree. The shit talking seems to come from a better place in Mad-town than elsewhere.
I've been to Mad-town for a couple games, and, yes, the fans are obnoxious at the game. But after the game, it was a different story. I went to house parties, bars, etc., and Wisconsin people were gracious hosts (unless you started talking smack about the Packers). So, there was some PG-13 verbal abuse at the game itself (e.g., chants of "asshole, asshole"), but after the game, it was all, "welcome to my party and pull a beer off this keg, eh."
Every Nebraska fan I've met seems to have, at the core, that polite, Midwestern wholesomeness thing, even the meatheads. Very much like Iowa fans.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:19 PM ^
It was the toughest weekend I have ever seen to get a hotel room in A2 - most were taken up by groups. They do travel well.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
I actually had two Nebraska guys offer my friend and I a free ticket while we were waiting outside the gates. Granted we had no use for it since we were about to enter the stadium and we both had tickets. The fact that they were willing to offer it was great though.

There were not nearly as many as Ohio 2009. That was one of the most annoying games of my college career. Nebraska was there with a lot of people, but to say it was as bad as 2009 is ridiculous.
On that note though, help the students and buy the tickets to the game. I will be there, but a lot of my friends cannot be there because of family engagements. So buy the tickets so that stupid Akron State Golden Bobcats' fans do not. Thanks!

I was in N endzone and the ones behind us were nice (though understandably disappointed). Same goes for the ones who worked in their Athletic Dept.
and sat near my cousins in S endzone. Cheered for their team when they did well, but not obnoxiously.I'd second the "class" remarks.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:37 PM ^
We had 3 younger fans, who drove in from Nebraska, in front of us today and they were class acts the whole game. If fans from other teams, yes I am looking at you Ohio and MSU, the games with them would not only be exciting but also enjoyable. If the fans are all like that at Nebraska then I will be going there next year.

That's a LONG trip home after that game.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
Great fans. We were at the Grizzly Brewing and three Nebraska fans were buying my wife and I drinks. Then we walked over with a handful of Nebraska fans. Great people! Really great addition to the conference.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
Next to several Nebraska fans. Great people. I almost felt bad we undressed them the way we did because the were genuinely good fans.

I will say they were really appalled about our halftime show and were disappointed it wasn't more traditional. Lots of comments on how odd the show was.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
This was clearly the fanservice show for the student section, and I can appreciate that, but yeah, even as someone who knows his memes, this was way to scattershot to be truly appreciated by anyone trying to watch it.
