19 weeks 2 days ago	You are	Probably also glad Denard is gone too.... Burke is the best point guard in the nation. Even if Walton is solid, it will be a step back at the most important position. Not saying they fall off a cliff, but to suggest they'd be better without Burke is a bit of a stretch.

33 weeks 2 days ago	I think	Darrell Funk is one of the best Oline coaches in the country. I think losing Molk has had a negative impact that is beyond measure. Molk could single handedly elevate those around him with his play. He is very much missed.
33 weeks 2 days ago	Not that it matters	But I think this is one of the most rational posts of the night. People see 11-2 and certain returning starters and assume progress. But some key cogs from last season are gone and the improved opposition + playing on the road has taken its toll.

33 weeks 2 days ago	So a timeout	On a drive in which Nebraska gained 5 first downs, without throwing a pass, gives Michigan a chance to win a game they trail by two touchdowns? I can agree with the "Sending a message" but that's about it.
33 weeks 2 days ago	Maybe it isn't Borges	Maybe it's the loss of the best center on the land, a big play WR, a veteran tight end that can block and catch (as opposed to two tight ends that seem to only be able to do one of those), another SR OL, and a great 4 yr starting WR. Maybe you could say the coaches should be able to elevate the replacements, but the fact is that while some of them are serviceable and have their moments, this offense is just not as talanted.

33 weeks 2 days ago	Maybe	Nobody will ever be happy with play calling around here though. You throw too much against bama, people cry fro denard's legs. You run too much, they say air it out. He throws 5 ints, they say throw bubble screens. They play conservative to protect the ball, they say this is boring. You lose the starting QB and they say why can't the OC get recovers open. Maybe mgoblog should just takeover play calling. Use the live blog or something, then text the play to Borges..
33 weeks 2 days ago	?	What would timeouts have accomplished? The D was gassed and at that point Nebraska was running at will, picking up first downs without even considering throwing. Timeouts don't change that.
33 weeks 2 days ago	Hmm...	Maybe the common denominator there isn't poor play calling, but rather the lack of talented qb play. You want the OC to be aggressive and tailor the whole offense to a freshmen QB in three quarters after working on an entirely different gameplan all week? Doesn't work like that in real life.

1 year 23 weeks ago	Lots of Optimism	I realize that this is a Michigan blog and that means there is always a certain maize and blue slant. I also realize that coming off a Sugar Bowl victory that the joy and optimism is almost at  zenith.   That said, I'm afraid that many are setting themselves up to be dissappointed. There have been several threads in the past two days so I won't bring up all the talking points. But remember: 1. This year's team over-acheived. even if it was only one or two games, it clearly surpassed expectations.    2. Denard still has a lot of issues. He was awful in the Sugar Bowl. People like to blame Borges, but Borges didn't bounce passes to wide open backs on screens that were beautifully set up, Borges didn't almost throw 5 interceptions in 21 attempts. Maybe you could cite Borges a bit for the 13 yards rushing, but it's obvious Denard is still an average-at-best passer.   3. Molk, Martin, RVB, and Hemingway are enormous losses. People tend to underestimate how enormous. You can'y play the "State or Nebraska loses key players" card and undersell Michigan's key losses.   4. As much as we probably hate to admit it, MSU will be ok. Worthy loss hurts, yes. But even though Cousins was a three-year captain, I wouldn't be schocked if Maxwell is better, as early as next year.  Fowler and Arnett will cushion the losses at WR.   5. No matter the personnell, Nebraska is going to be tough to beat at their place.    Now I hope I am just being a pessimist. I'll eat boatloads of crow if I'm wrong on all of the above. But with Bama on the schedule... Anything more than 9-3 in the regular season will be overachieving. Let's hope they do it again.
1 year 23 weeks ago	I agree.	Also, don't be surprised if Maxwell is an upgrade over cousins, and if Bell becomes consistent, I think Sparty can improve from this year. But, I think Michigan beats them at home.

1 year 28 weeks ago	Final Four	This is not exactly my dream scenario, but it what I think could be most realistic. BCS only determines the final 4. One and two teams host a semifinal, championship site is bid for like the superbowl. After the final four are pulled, the bowl alliances kick in, allowing for bowls to replace final four teams with at large bids. Love the idea of a national semifinal in the big house against an SEC team.
