Per MLIVE, not happening

I hope this isn't true. Both because that would leave MSU in complete shambles (and I'd like them to be at least competitive) and because Narduzzi is a good DC and I want USC to suck.
That said, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world either.

MSU in shambles... this works for me. Has a nice ring to it as well.
January 5th, 2013 at 12:49 AM ^
Truthfully, I could give a shit, or not, if MSU is competitive. Michigan's stature is raised if Ohio is competitive, but not MSU. If they go 3-9 for 10 years in a row I wouldn't think it a great loss.

68-32-5
That is all.
January 5th, 2013 at 12:59 AM ^
Have to disagree on both counts. An MSU program in shambles would just make it easier for us to recruit in-state, and a strong USC helps to keep ND in line, which is a concern going forward since we won't be playing them after 2014.
January 5th, 2013 at 1:12 AM ^
Yeah, it's probably that I have to deal with obnoxious SC fans all the time (including my brother-in-law) and I never have to deal with MSU fans.
January 5th, 2013 at 1:32 AM ^
Maybe we can send a bunch of MSU fans to LA. Would that help?
January 5th, 2013 at 1:35 AM ^
They probably couldn't afford it.

Those same pompous douches are the same ones that clog up the 405, 101 and 5 in their Beemers!, espeically in that damn bottle neck from Santa Fe springs to Beuna Park! :P
Don't many think UM fans are arrogant aholes? Like Fondling Lion fans or Suckeye fans? All you have to do is read some of the mindless drivel on here and even I cringe at times.
But, you are right that many SC fans can be pompous jerks who think that SC can do no wrong. Typcial of any fan base.
But I also know a few SC fans that aren't. Heck I know someone that actually played for SC and he's as objective as they come. Of course, he played for them so he understands the reality of what it is like to "actually" play college ball.
The great thing is Mora is builidng the team that Loseheisel promised but couldn't deleiver on. And as you mentioned, Stanford has grown up (thanks to a Michigan Man) and other teams in the P1G 10 are getting better and that mean SC doesn't have the huge edge they use to.
But here's one sure thing about this supposed move by Narduzzi. He obviosly likes to coach for scumbags!
And his success isn't automatic. Monte was heralded as a defensive genius. He didn't fare so well at Univ Of Spoiled Children. Why?
Maybe it's because of his son?
Michigan had a GREAT D Coordinator by the name of Scott Shafer. But Mich had a head coach who neutered him. Maybe Lane has the same affect on those he brings in?
Time will tell.
One other thing. USC will always recruit talent. It has a certain gravitas not many schools enjoy.
January 5th, 2013 at 5:47 AM ^
If we can't beat the better teams in the B1G, then we are in trouble. In case no one has noticed, the B1G's reputation is not exactly stellar at the moment, nor has it been the last several years. Any loss of coaching talent that hurts MSU hurts the conference and hurts all of its member teams.

This isn't the SEC. We just have to take care of our business.
January 5th, 2013 at 9:17 AM ^
Your perspective has obviously been warped by living in LA. You probably live about 1000 miles from the nearest MSU fan. Losing a good DC isn't going to leave MSU in shambles, which is a real shame. Do you also want them to win their share of recruiting battles with us to stay competitive? After their recent success, especially against us, rooting for them to be AT LEAST competitive is pretty much the last thing I'll do as a fan.

MSU in shambles? I don't see the problem.

Going to be fun watch how quickly the MSU faithful turn on their hero Dantonio.

But this is different than say, Bielema to Arkansas. That looked like a lateral move. This does not. No one would deny that USC is a big step up in prestige from MSU.

January 5th, 2013 at 3:35 AM ^
I upvoted your comment, Snarling, but I disagree RE: the lateral move of Bielema. I would say Arkansas is a more alluring program than Wisconsin because it is SEC, has more willingness/expectation to compete at a very high level, and history.
Recruiting will be much easier there, which, as the old addage says, is the "lifeblood of a program."
Arkansas has had much better recruiting rankings (per rivals) the past 5 years than Wisconsin.
You can see them all here: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/teamrank/2013/all/all
sorry for the longish post!
January 5th, 2013 at 10:52 AM ^
I really think that it depends on the circumstances of what Bielma left. If Wisconsin was willing to match Arkansas dollar for dollar in operational, it was lateral. If say Bielma had gone to the AD and said "I need more money in my recruiting budget to compete with Hoke, Meyer, and Kelly, also more money for coordinators", but they had said no more money, it makes sense to bail.
January 5th, 2013 at 10:57 AM ^
I disagree with the idea that Arkansas is a more prestigious job than Wisconsin. Wisconsin has been to 6 BCS bowls and has 8 10-win seasons in the last 20 years; Arkansas has been to 1 BCS bowl and has 3 10-win seasons over the same stretch. Over the lifetime of current recruits, there's no comparison. Their recruiting rankings look good because of Petrino, who has had success somehow hypnotizing recruits wherever he goes, but they don't have a history of bringing in top-flight talent.
Maybe the SEC is more prestigious than the B1G right now, but Arkansas is at best the 4th-best program in their division over the long term behind Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. Probably 5th now that Texas A&M seems to know what it's doing. They're way more similar to MSU or Illinois as far as their usual standing within their conference than they are to Wisconsin. Unless you're making the argument that the SEC is SO much more prestigious that being at a lower-tier program doesn't matter, I just don't see it.

Michigan State I believe gave Narduzzi a fat raise after he visited Texas AnM last year.
However, Michigan State will never be able to compete with USCs resources.
January 5th, 2013 at 9:36 AM ^
If only the big ten had some kind of money generating device that they put above the interests of athletics and also happens to bring every big ten school absolute boatloads of money with which to pay coaches to stay. Now where would we get something like that...
January 5th, 2013 at 12:22 AM ^
If confirmed, it would make for a pretty pessimistic offseason for MSU. Please be true.

Man, I kinda like Lane Kiffin.
January 5th, 2013 at 12:25 AM ^
That sucks. Maybe Mark Hollis can plan to put a basketball court in the middle of a football field and play two MSU games at once and that will convince Narduzzi to stay! Lol

January 5th, 2013 at 12:30 AM ^
As a USC and UM fan I would love this. Make SC better and make MSU worse. This would be way out of left field though because I had not heard his name mentioned at all for the position.

Jim Tressel.

he still has a show cause letter. It ain't happening.

USC's defense would be pretty damn scary. We've all seen their defense with their recruits. Now imagine the coordinator that set all that up, now working with Leon McQuay, Su'A Cravens etc... Holy Crap

January 5th, 2013 at 12:48 AM ^
Eh, if Kiffin gets canned (likely), Narduzzi won't have a hard time getting an MSU-caliber job again.
