I wonder...

What the perception of the USA job is right now, globally. What kind of coaches would it attract?

I wish Brian would write more

I wish Brian would write more often about USMNT. I know he's done it a few times in the past and gotten a bit of flack for it though. Thanks for the OT, OP.

Another teachers perspective

I've taught AP and IB, currently in an International school with an IB curriculum. If you want your daughter to be prepared for standardized tests, take AP. If you want your daughter to have a world view, talk IB. IMO, AP vs IB is how the world is vs how the world should be in terms of college prep. Either way you'll be happy, because you won't know what you're missing.

I'd be interested to know how they get an IB diploma by grade 11, since you take MYP from grade 6-10 and DP from 11-12.

This is awesome. Did Jehu

This is awesome. Did Jehu make it, or the program?

Suggestions

I agree with accountability. I see two immediate solutions and a third immediate but impossible one.

1.) make it easier to fire bad teachers
2.) make it easier to hold back poor students
3.) figure out a way to lessen the negative stereotype that goes with being fired or held back

All three are rife with their own problems, but I think it's a start. If you pushed me for more, I'd say we simultaneously start offering better support for poor teachers, start offering better support for poor students and, like you said, come to grips with our own faults and weaknesses. Once those things start happening, 1 paragraph papers will have their place in second grade, where they belong.

So... What now?

You finally have proof that our education system is failing. What will you do with it? How will you fix it? What solutions or suggestions can you offer? As a teacher I see arguments like yours all the time (which are not altogether untrue) but I rarely hear helpful answers. It's easy to say "that's broken," but it's an entirely different thing to fix that which does not work. I mean... Where do we even start?

Good luck!

My wife and I will fill this out when are home from our holiday. Happy to help out another teacher :)

Correction

Among those are two players garnering preseason All-American consideration, arguably the best shooter in North America, a backup point guard who dropped 17 points in the first half of the title game, two experienced big men, and a sophomore oozing so much potential that he forced his way onto the court last year despite appearing malnourished.

The guy is canadian, after all.

Hmm.

I didn't realize the Swedish chef was an announcer at the '98 cup. Awesome.

Solid move up for him... With USC talent, Narduzzi could be pretty scary. I don't have the same disdain for him as I do for dantonio, so I say grats and good luck.

I think I'd like Lawson for a DE. To the untrained eye, he seems quite good. These are fun to watch but for someone who knows everything they know about football from MGoBlog, I'm not sure what I'm really looking at the entire time.

obligatory Game of Thrones reference.

You know nothing, Lou Holtz.

Dark Horse is legit.

Highly recommended. My in-laws have mugs there so we find ourselves there quite a bit. I recommend the Oil of the Sun w/chicken and feta. Pair it with their Amber and have yourself a good summer evening. Also, sit outside.

Good press is good press

I'll take the positive mention. You never know who's listening! Plus it's fun to hear a somewhat nonpartisan entity talk about how silly OSU is.

Classy always wins

Your duty as a Michigan fan does not supercede your responsibility to NOT be a jerk at work.

Personally I'd go buy her some maize and blue silverware or napkins for next time she has a party.

Suggested Re-titles:

"Beat MSU"

"Potential Destinations for Semi-Cataclysmic Meteor Strikes"

"Even if they win, OSU are still a bunch of losers"

"Who to root for this weekend"

I'm sure ya'll will come up with more.

SEC Network problems

I have SEC on ABC too. I ended up finding the game on regular channel (non-hd) called "WKTC" My Network TV. Happens to be just below ABC non-hd.

Off-season post idea

Brian, can you write a post ( or series of posts) of what you would do if you were AD? It would be fun to read when we're grasping for straws in the slow parts of the offseason.

Do all the good teams do

Do all the good teams do this, or is there a counter to it?

Great work!

Best one yet, imo.

I grew up in Michigan and

I grew up in Michigan and migrated to SC for a job. I've been living in Columbia for the last few years. Here are some observations I've made:

*The state of South Carolina has got a LOT of talent.

* USC has a rabid fanbase, on account of there not being a professional sports team in SC. You either grow up loving USC or Clemson; not the Hurricanes, Panthers or Braves. There are only two choices.

* USC and Clemson epitomize the "big city livin'" that poor kids from the country want, and it's not that far from their family.

You add all of these things up, sprinkle in a few other miscellaneous factors and you have a winning combo.
