MSU Punter Tyler Hunt done for the year

MSU may now be down to their 3rd string punter for the rest of the year. This punter will either be Bryce Baringer, who punted twice in the IU game and only joined the team as a walk-on punter when starter Jake Hartberger went out for the year, or Rocky Lombardi. Lombardi, you may know, is the team's backup QB and will be starting at QB tomorrow. So Lombardi may end up starting at QB and Punter tomorrow.

This game will be hilarious to watch.

I am actually genuinely interested in the Purdue at MSU game.  NOT JUST to see how Purdue looks after OSU, but also how MSU copes with the loss of so many players.

Go Boilermakers, make Dantonio 17 and 17 the past 34 games.

Here's a nice stat. Remember when Harbaugh was struggling last year, and a lot of Spartans were waving around the "Through x games, Harbaugh's record is xx-xx, and Hoke's was yy-yy", and the joke was that they were pretty similar?

Right now, the stat is "Through 47 games, Harbaugh's record is 35-12, and Hoke's was 29-18."

Here's an even better stat. In his last 33 games at MSU, Dantonio's record is 17-16. In his last 33 games at UM, Hoke was 17-16.

Might be a stretch, but I could see Dantonio sitting Lewerke this week to be like “See he was hurt! That’s why we lost to Michigan!”

He will probably try to lose the rest of his games this season so they can claim Michigan still hasn’t beaten a good MSU team.

Depends on how you define "packing it in." The fact they may hold out Josiah Scott and Cody White in a big game to get a redshirt could be called packing it in for the season. Or Sparty fans selling their tickets for $6 on Stubhub against a top-25ish team could be called packing it in for the season.

That would be such a Sparty thing to do.

A Sparty friend of mine texted me at the beginning of the season and said he thought M would go 10-2, with the losses being to MSU and OSU.  I replied that "M might lose two games, but we're not losing to MSU."

He replied that since MSU won in 2017 and that game was in A2, that MSU should be favored in 2018 in East Lansing.  I told him that I didn't consider the 2017 result predictive for 2018 because of the weather and because M had John O'Korn at QB.  This made my friend all upset, and he then sent me a stream of texts complaining about how I was "making excuses" and trying to say that the 2017 game "didn't count."

I feel as though that was a perfect insight on the Spartan mentality.  Trying to identify the reason(s) for a bad outcome does not necessarily equate to excuse-making.  And losing is still losing, even if there are good reasons for why you lost.  Michigan lost in 2017; it doesn't matter if I think things might have gone differently had Speight been healthy or the sun had been shining.  I can use  information about that game for making predictions about what might happen in the future, but that doesn't change what happened on the field.

Well this year, Sparty fucking lost.  And it still counts, Sparty, even if your punter was out or your QB had a sore shoulder.  All that matters is what happened in the game that was played.

the line in that game is MSU like -1. It makes literally no sense even if MSU get guys back. Purdue is rolling. Vegas knows something.

I am an MSU grad and each year it is difficult to find a game to go to (wife is an MSU grad and fan) that doesn't conflict with a Michigan game. This game set up nicely and I'm excited to go watch Purdue pummel MSU silently, while I pretend to not root against my wife's interests (she's out of my league).

The voodoo spell that was placed on him that allowed him to make that one-handed Spiderman catch and super punt has completely worn off; rendering him lifeless.

A Purdue win keeps pressure on Wisconsin (along with NW and Iowa) in the B1G West. However the resulting MSU loss will cause MSU to tailspin to a 6/7 win campaign and continue the Sparty narrative that “your last two wins against us were our worst teams in 15 years.” Ehh whatever, Boiler Up!

Don't shoot me, but I hope Staee pulls off the win tomorrow, because . . .

1) Boosts our SOS, and

2) I'm wary of playing Rondale Moore in the B1G championship game.

Purdue is rolling right now, and Moore had a huge game against OSU.  But he hasn't been that huge against other teams.  OSU quit on that game, early - in the first half.  Moore got most of his yards in the second half, well after OSU stopped playing to win.  A great game to be sure, but I don't think it's overly representative of what to expect moving forward.  Although I do expect him to torch MSU...
