Moderator Action Sticky

Submitted by Zone Left on

Brian has requested that instead of deleting each individual comment in the Moderator Action Sticky, that we instead just create a new thread. It takes hours of less time, preserves the comments for future explanations, and just clears things up faster.

You'll notice that the previous thread is now locked, and will slowly fade back into darkness. For the time being, the link from the Useful Stuff menu will point to the wrong location. We're working on a fix for that.

This thread is an ad-hoc way of tracking what threads and comments get removed. Mods that remove a thread should post the title here with a brief reason as to why the thread is gone.

NOTE: if you leave an irrelevant comment in this thread it will be deleted.

"THJ Declared For NBA Draft"

You are free to post this thread when there is credible information behind it, but saying that his best friend said so and failing to post any credible source material warrants the removal of the thread.

First time ever posting in "public" for a ruling on a ban, but here it goes: Six posts, all of which included scUM (that's the biggest factor, and honestly someone with 6/6 posts with o$u would be close too) and a karma value of -1. Also, calling a couple long-time posters (yes, including mod LSA) delusional with nothing or close to nothing to back it up doesn't really sit right either.

Probably just a random troll, but I did want to get the message out that rival fans are never banned for being rival fans supporting their team. Be polite, don't call names, back up what you have to say and you'll be respected here, no question.

But the fact that suddenly a number of long dead threads suddenly were double posted in at the end of them. And most of that were like one sentence comments.

If they're replies to other remarks (even belatedly) or just a series of comments in, say, an open thread, it doesn't stand out.  But when someone can't help double posting multiple times with 6 word comments in threads that haven't been commented on in a week that stood out in my posted box.

This morning, Seth posted regarding a spurious & libelous statement tweeted by Ace Williams about a Michigan player.

I appreciated the post, and the preemptive action to shut down any panic or speculation at MGoBlog. It is particularly helpful to have someone in the know categorically reject false claims made about Michigan players.

In a similar fashion, it is severely frowned upon to reference Bleacher Report at MGoBlog, both because of the quality and the reliability of the news.

However, several days ago there was a link to a video clip at BR of recruit Jabrill Peppers. In this case, because of the video, it was patently obvious that the report was straight from Pepper's mouth. I'm glad the post was allowed to stand.

It would be helpful if someone closer to either the program or the recruiting world who sees a report from BR or Ace Williams would regularly research supposedly relevant information. On those rare occasions when something is relevant, (like the Peppers video,) it would be great to have it posted. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, and if BR or Williams actually DOES have real info, get the word out.

99% of Bleacher Report is snowflake crap, and their SEO work uses all that snowflaking to drown out sites with actual content -- search for something michigan player related and you seldom come up with MGoBlog first.

Anything by Jacobi is fine. If it's obviously high-quality content by a respected author okay. Most of the time when you think it's the former, really Bleacher Report just stole it from someone else. For example the last BR posting guy I banned found a republished UMHoops article.

The "no Bleacher Report" rule is there to protect us from "Hey look at this Michigan Top Ten Quarterbacks of All Time But Really Just Since 2008 Because I Am 15" threads and to not reward a crap factory for crap. Also because they are a particularly evil organization with an epic track record of theft and underhanded dealing in their efforts to sublimate actual bloggers, extra vigilence is required.

Also: I'm moving this conversation off the board to the Mod Action Sticky.

We can differentiate between BR and Ace Williams.

BR has some good stuff sandwiched amongst the crap. Ace Williams has a bunch of crap sandwiched amongst other crap. He literally makes up libelous stuff that is almost always unverifiable by standard techniques (because he "has a super-secret source"). He's never right. He sucks.

I didn't realize so much time and "paperwork" went into overseeing the MGoBoard. I randomly came across this thread, and I feel like I am involved in a top secret & undisclosed MGoBlog Intelligence Agency meeting. Trolls are found and neutralized. Threads consolidated. "Bloggers of Mass Destruction" who have no credibilty are discussed. Maybe the policy of appeasement isn't working with the BMDs and a counteinsurgency (or indirect smear) campaign should be considered....I'm only half joking. Keep up the good work!

OT: The Top 12 Most Consistently Overrated College Football Programs Of The BCS Era, Statistically

The tribe spoke on this one. Given the OP and the rather meaningless statistical methodology employed in the link provided, this can only be construed as an attempt at trolling. Thank you to the MGoUsers who pointed out the flaws in the methodology used in the linked article.

I may be in the minority on this, but I felt it was worth saying: I don't like that the decision is to delete threads like this.  My preference would be to just lock them.  In my opinion, leaving them out there as an example of the ridicule that ensues serves a valuable deterrent value.  Just my two cents.

I'm sorry, but this is terrible modding.  The original post had no language in it that implied trolling and there could have been some decent discussions on it.  Some people don't like to accept that ND has been to a title game more recently than us and therefore a bunch of people defensively jump to trolling.  The proper action would have been to downvote the people crying wolf.

There was nothing wrong with the thread and you cannot deny that if any Michigan fan posted the same exact original post that it would still be up.

It's just mind-boggling he hasn't be banned yet. He's gotten way more slack than most Michigan fans would get.

If anything opposing fans SHOULD be held to a higher standard. They should act like guests if they want to be treated as guests and not interlopers.

ESPN 150 is released

If not for a rush of threads yesterday evening, yesterday's thread on this very subject would likely still be at the bottom of the first page.

I am confused by your *hug a terrorist" policy. While my language was admittedly blunt, the sentiment expressed was hardly controversial. Dude killed a little kid...amongst others. You have lost 500 respect points on my ledger.
Further, if you don't want people to comment on it, you probably shouldn't put it on the front page. Also...If one is really looking to delete posts and punish the guilty...How about cleaning up that post Falsly identifying that poor kid missing from Brown as terrorist #2? (Center Ice 3am April 19) Kid"s family might appreciate that.
Just a thought.

Umm... what? The post I deleted was just a double-post that the original author changed the title to a more clever version of "Delete this because I posted something that was posted already". I don't think I moderated any articles having to do with Boston.

What is the current MGoPoints/Respect Points exchange rate?

justingoblue

as well. CEFH, can you elaborate? Other than taking points away for political stuff, the only other mod action I can recall is me un-embedding a Vine video and BiSB unlinking some pictures.

Also wanted to add that this is probably the first time I've signed on to five new posts in the mod thread without the board sitting at threat level midnight.

....at MGoUser request due to trouble with the original link.

(HERE) - this was the link. The workaround in Chrome (which only worked for me sporadically over several trials) is to "X" out of the digital subscriber sign in then arrow back to the original link. If anyone can repost this with the same or similar link, feel free to do so.

Sadly the Ferns-Bunting Miss State letters seem like frauds

I think it has been up long enough - the Bunting letter is indeed Photoshopped.

EDIT: I looked at it again this morning - I missed the OP's rather amusing self-deprecating reply. I put it back up. Sorry for that.

Not a good OP, and I cannot believe I didn't see it when I got back on, sorry it took a bit to get down.

Collins' words about coming out are one thing, an inflamatory reaction (whether in support or disapproval) is an entirely different animal. We should probably avoid posting reactions to the news, as that's almost definitely going to be against the board rules on politics/religion.

Michigan's involvement with Adidas settlement

All the same, it is a fascinating topic, but this thread was a few hours too late sadly.

Hopefully the OP got the answer he needed (sounds like it, but I can pull answers if anyone needs them) but the kiosk stuff needs to come down eventually.
